I feel like crafting in this game is really a skill as opposed to just random button mashing like in all other games because you really need to analyze every situation and use all your skills accordingly. Gear also makes a significant difference. Man, its all just great lol. My crafting job actually outleveled my fighting profession yesterday.

ONE OF THE BEST IN MMO LAND!

    This.

Today I had the choice between doing my first lv20 dungeon to continue story mode or craft some more velveteen items with my crafter... I chose the latter XD and that's despite waiting 1 hour to join that dungeon as dps. Reason was: a guy asked me if I could craft 10 velveteen cloths for a certain fee if he provided the mats; that's was the first non-"market board" trade I had ever engaged it and it was exciting for me lol.

He thought each dew thread (You need 1 dew thread + 1 cotton yarn for 1 Undyed Velveteen Cloth) only required 1 diremite web, but you actually need two. He wanted to order 10 Undyed Velveteen Cloths from start, but due to the flawed wiki he only had mats for 5. He watched me as I crafted and I did my very best to make sure that his mats yielded as high % chance of HQ version as possible. In the end, it turned out to have yielded 4 High Quality and one regular quality Undyed Velveteen Cloth.

He said he needed them for attempting an armorer equip and he actually managed to get it to High Quality on his first try.

The whole encounter was very enjoyable and I was glad things turned out so well. It inspired me to craft my own weaver version Velveteen gear too and that turned out fine:P.

Heck, I even infused materia in my accessories to enhance my main crafting stat just so that I could do as good service as possible for that customer XD. (I didn't have to:P). I had actually planned to wait for the next tier of accessories before attaching materia, but I felt so responsible so that I infused just for this guy :D.

You can mass produce generic items if you have the mats. Complex items require to be made one at a time. They tried a fatigue system in the original version of this game and it didn't work. Its not that type of crafting really.

Mass producing stuff isn't always the best though keep an eye on your leves there are a few leves, usually for basic items such as lumber or ingots, that can be turned in multiple times and still only count as a single leve and rake in absolutely insane exp. Been wondering how those few guys already have 3 or 4 level 50 craft skills? Well this is how. Though this will usually end up being very expensive though right now on my server if you use basic walnut lumber on the level 25 carpentry leve you make a profit though it is best to use HQ items on leves because you get an extra 200% exp and gil bonus. For my level 45 class leve I can get roughly 300k EXP!!!! in a single leve using HQ items.

Yeah, it is insane exp. I was considering using it, but I want to get my Botanist and Miner up as well, so may as well not rush my crafting classes.

After all, why would I go buy an HQ piece of gear if im going to outlevel it in a few hours?

Not to mention im going to get a passable piece of gear just for questing.

Maybe my worry is misplaced?  I was only able to play beta 3 as I am currently deployed to afghanistan and was on R and R during that time.

This is the only thing I didn't like how fast you can level. It makes me feel like why do I have to level just start me at the end if that is where the game starts. If I have to take the ride slow it down and let me enjoy the scenery. :)

some people think its fast while some people think its relatively slow. it depends on the person. but for sure leveling does taking longer the higher level you get, no doubt. keep in mind a lot of the people played ffxi, a game that took you like a year to reach max level while playing hardcore hours.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

I've been playing from day 1 and I'm only level 20.  So take that for whatever you want.

I am one of only three high level Crafters for my class on my server who can actually make the pre-relic weapons and my God I have never seen such awful undercutting in my life I have watched the pre-relic weapons drop over 40k in one day just because one guy HAS to sell his weapon before me and the other guy.... he seriously under cut me by almost 30k the other night.....

Seriously some people are total dumbasses why undercut and crash an item to where you are barely making a profit from making it what is the point....

Anyways rant/rage aside I am really loving this system quite fun where you have to decide "Do I risk one more touch to go for high quality but risk failing the item should this synthesis fail or skip doing an extra touch and give my self room for failure but blow my chance at achieving high quality."

    Lol... I know that feel,

Those ADD gotta sell my shite now guys - who undercut everyone by 40% to 50%, might as well give your shite for free lol...

Yep lmao woke up today and pre-relic gear crashed another 20-30k most of it is barely even worth making now. What is the point of undercutting a person by 20k?

crafting in this game is easy !once a skill is learned just quick craft and you're done!but if you plan to make end game product?I suspect material avail won't be an issue but finding a skilled crafter William just level 16 in alchemy and getting a 10% better quality is involved for same level as you ?there is a lot of soill involved, timing ,yes luck Mather but almost to irelevency but skill ?I bet a lot of people will rage and love be crafting !ya its awesome .the best I ever met!

agreed. This game has excellent pve and crafting and an amazing world. Add a proper pvp system and i am sure ffxiv will be king.

Really? I thought it was OK, but unacceptable that you couldn't craft multiples until level 10. The only thing new it brings is the fact that you can make annoying noises wherever you want.

The materia system extends the demand for items, but there is still a clear cap on that demand.

Once you have attached the maximum amount of materia to an item, it cannot be enhanced any further, so that item remains in the world permanently, only needing constant repair to be used effectively. Overall, one player will need from 3 to 6 pieces of each item to be able to max out that item, because that's how many materia are needed (1 item yields 1 materia) to max one piece, including advanced melding.

In combination with the randomness of the materia conversion process, the gear conversion mechanic does increase the overall demand for crafted items significantly, just not indefinitely.

  • ShauneepeakShauneepeak Member UncommonPosts: 424

Well to get the best materia you have to destroy that high end gear and even then you don't know what materia you are going to get.

ILVL 45+ gear gives a chance for lvl 3 materia with what I have heard lvl 3 almost being guaranteed with ILVL 49+

ILVL 75+ is lvl 4 materia

ILVL 90+ is lvl 5 materia

So if people truly want to be maxed out it is going to cause a lot of high end gear to be wiped from the game and turned into a random materia.

It´s an interesting and clever system, as it keeps even the most hardcore players busy for quite some time.

That´s what I like about this game so far. It offers something for both casual and hardcore gamers.

Hardcore gamers have min/max goals to hunt for.

Casual gamers have story quests to enjoy, collecting pets, leveling up Companion, etc and soon housing.

And then there are those who can do all of this. So I am probably a casual hardcore gamer, or would that be a hardcore casual gamer ?

You can rush through the game grinding fates, getting equipment for seals and quests on the way and then get the best gear from raids and probably be done with it. But why should I skip major parts of the game ? So I am only lvl 25 currently, having also some crafter and gathering classes at that level.

I really like the crafting so far and gathering resources for my crafters and yes it "distracts" me from leveling faster. That's my main issue with FFXIV, I always get distracted. I start doing A and end with Z never really finishing A. ;)

Thankfully that hasn't been happening to me too badly worst issue I have is getting on and planning to level my main class and get some of the storyline finished but then just staying on my carpenter all day. Thankfully I have such a  large Gil pile going I don't have to worry about gathering my own resources, gotta love my inner merchant though my inner merchant is also what causes me to stay on my Carpenter all day and just rake in more Gil instead of leveling lol.
