Ok, let me address everybody since everyone thinks a thread on a forum somehow pertains directly to them.
I understand that you have followed this game since 1967.
You and all of your friends are in beta for DnL and every game ever made. I understand this.
You are a professional game dev and you can program a game like this in under an hour on your kid's Ipod. Good on ya!

This is the worst forum ever. I have been following a number of forums for some good info about SoG. This one is the only one that has negative post. Which I might add are pretty much the same people. Hate the game, but still lingering around.
Something I think that is funny is that for all of these hundreds and thousands of people that hate this game, the servers are maxed out.
I also find it funny because the people who claim to fit in any of the categories above whould know that SoG is a fragment of the real game. Put together at the last minute to please the angry mob that felt like they are owed the world. Oh, and to get some cashflow into the game. Not that 500k is gonna do much for a game like this.
SoG as is, was pretty much what I expected. A last minute throw together like what I used to do with book reports back in High School the night before they were do. It was even announced that they were only including a few core elements, little content, and no crafting. However, people act as if that was never posted nor stickies in the DnL forums answering SoG questions.
Then the words "lied to" get thrown around. Nobody lied. They screwed up. The shoot for a realistic deadline and can't get it, for whatever reason. Money, people, etc.
So I guess in April there's gonna be a huge upset because DnL won't be released. Let's face it, the game will get delayed. Not because it's Farlan, it's because this is what happens with every game. For people that claim to be around the gaming industry so much, I can't believe you do not understand this.
SoG is raw. It has its problems just like everyother game at release. I can name quite a few that were unplayable the day of launch. I and beating my head against the wall with the whole initiate combat bug. It's like rolling dice right now. Everyother mob kills me, then I have to run alll the way back to get away from the ever-so present KS'ers. Which makes no sense seeing how there's a ton of mobs around outside th starting area. An entire island filled to the brim with skeletons. I don't even know what lvl they are because I'm afraid I'll die if I step foot there. Umm let's see. ah the login to the server blows. So that's it for me. I would like to see the combat bug fixed and servers up.
I hope DnL is as good as it sounds like it is. It has to be. I have no other choices for gaming. I don't like cartoons, kids, or carebears.
In closing, if you hate it, just move on. This forum really is a sad sight. The others are very constructive and helpful. If you hate it because you didn't get a key (but claim to play), well D&D has an open stress test download up right now.
Thanks for reading this long post. I hope it helps curious people and motivates the disappointed ones to move on to the next. As for me, there is no next, this is it.

Are you seriously comparing Settlers of Ganareth to high school homework?????????LMAO I think a better comparison would be Kobe Bryant in highschool hears scouts are going to watch him practice, would he say, A: Im going to slack off, its only practice and what may be my only opportunity to prove Im worthy to play in the NBA or would he say B: I need to give it my all, the scouts have never seen me play before and If i want to get drafted into the NBA i need to give it my all....
If Kobe picked option A, he wouldn't be a millionaire today...

The original release for the full version of DnL was set for Nov 2004. It was delayed, no problem.
The next date was set for Early 2005. It was delayed again, no problem.

The next date is set for April 2006. Yeah right, I wont hold my breath after seeing the steaming pile that SoG is.
I think every person who has followed this game for four years and listened to NP3's promises has every right to be angry.
DnL has been delayed for 2 years and SoG is indeed DnL the way it is up to this date. That it needs at least another 2 years to be relatively complete does not worry you? Regarding "moving on to the next" - I for one have done that a while ago. But it is still interesting to post here sometimes. Forum is forum, this is not the only one where I post

Dude, YOU are one of the people I'm talking about. You're in evey post with something crappy and witty to say. If it's that bad for you then go find a new game man. You don't see me in SWG whinning about the 2 1/2 years I wasted on thier game do ya? Or see me in WoW bashing there cartoon game do ya? Then why are you doing it here?
Better yet, prove to me that you have a game key and send me a tell in game. My IGN is ministerofdeath. Let's just see if you're just another bitter kid that didn't get a key.

As I´ve beta tested many games and already expected launcher crashes, server downs (as all games do at launch), etc., I always wait a week or two before I even try it.
I have to admit the reactions of the SOG/DNL community are not that much different than other games. More contrary than I thought I see even a couple positive posts/opinions on the web. Therefore, people here stating they dont like it but linger around anyway to "warn" others should move on and let everybody make their own opinion.
what was bad about SWG any way i never tryed to find out y ppl hated it i never tryed it but the 10 days free i download last night to see if that game woud run on my pc not cuz i want to play it just to see if it will run without lag on my pc so what is it that ppl hate to me it looked not bad sry to be off topic
I played SWG for about three months after release, just got bored. Maxxed out my character and didnt have much else to do. Player cities had just came out at the time I left.
I didnt think the game was that bad while I played it, I just simply got bored with it. There has been alot of content added and alot of things changed since then so I can't comment on the current game state.
To the OP-this place is a cesspool. I had started to post fairly regularly and as unbiased as I could be. I've gone back and forth on my opinion of the game and the developers, but it really doesn't matter what you post. Any thread that is not overtly negative and hostile to the game, the devs, the people who bought Pioneer keys, the people who got free Pioneer keys, the people who are even following the game, or anything else to do with this game is immediately hijacked by the Jackdogs, Birdbrains (er, birdseeds), Infernos, etc. They are as mindlessly negative about the game as others are mindlessly positive and there is no chance in hell of speaking to them in any reasonable fashion. En1gma tries moderating the forum and seems to have run off a couple of the negative people, but some, like Jackdog, simply moderated their tone just enough to not get banned or have posts deleted and yet still sneak in some snide remark. Anyway, best to ignore them as much as you can.

Swg to a new player is probably ok to them. But for the veterans it's a totally different game. Like apples and oranges. Everything that took years to work towards was taken away. I'm sure everyone had there own reason for quitting. So it wouldn't be fair for me to list why I quit. But it changed from a mmo to a fps game overnight. Which was the last blow. The first blows started publish 9, the village for the carebears, then CU (which killed it for me), and I think the NGE was just an excuse to finally quit.
I bought the game to play the SWG of 2003. I didn't want anything nerfed changed or whatever. Once it became the game I didn't buy to play, that was that.

The orginal relase date was December 2002. The fanboys were screaming back then that they had no doubt the game would be released in 2002. We just have to have faith is what they said and believe in the devs. 3 years later we now see a released product that is a cross between Mourning and Irth Online. Although both of those had more content and better stability.
People say other games have problems. No game is this incomplete 6 months before release, No game I can recall has had this kind of stability problems. Even Shadowbane with its horrid stability problems in beta (and release) was never even close to this bad. This game is not an even an alpha game right now its still what its always been a concept. Although, a concept with a beautiful world and a dragon flight simulator.
I hear three arguments from the fanboy refugees that are left. Its the same three arguments we hear from them when every game is failing in beta. This not the real game, give them time to do a miracle build and all games have these poroblems. All games don't have serious problems in beta. Bad and dying games do. SoG is what it is a shell of a game nothing more. If you can accept it for what it is and enjoy it you can have great fun. But to say that it can ever reach its potential or even be a solid and polished game with content goes beyond dreaming. Whatever potential or dream there was for DnL is either dead or dying. Time to accept it for what it is and its not to good. The fanboys will probably never learn they will keep insisting that whatever game they are faithlessly following is the second coming and anyone who doubts them should be banned from whatever forum it is that the fanboy happens to be using to personally attack others.
SoG was no suprise its development parallaled that of other failed games just as its fanboys supported it like they did in the previous bad games. Eventually they will either wake up or move on to the next game. But for now the fanboys need not worry as their beloved official forums may be up tommorow. They can reassure each other there that all is right with their dream and be protected against the bad people who have the nerve to disagree with them. The mods there will keep reality out as they lock and delete any realistic posts that might disprupt the fanboys from their peaceful slumber. Happy dreams.
