It's not even that there's some ridiculous amount of bots/goldspammers, it's just that when you see 4-5 new ones it's a big PITA putting them on ignore.
And they know it too, so they freely send you tells and they'll KEEP sending you tells periodically until you bother to blacklist them too.

I agree, it should be easier to add someone to the blacklist.
On Famfrit I also get friend requests from the spammers. So if I don't blacklist them I get an unusable zone chat, constant /tell and constant friend requests.
There must be big money in this considering the effort these jerks put into annoying everyone. What I don't understand though is why go the lengths of actually being annoying with the friend requests. That isn't exactly going to get you any extra customers.
On Famfrit there were 3 main spammers in Ul, I noticed yesterday that they weren't around for the first time. So they are getting banned. Last night there was at least a reprieve from spammers. I'm sure when I log in today though that they'll have new spammers in place.
Is it really too much of a budget strain to hire/assign somebody at SE with the job of just banning spammers for at least the 1st month. There isn't a lot of servers and there's only 3 spots on each server that the spammers set up shop. It's not like it would require much effort to simply check chat in the 3 spots on each server and then ban the spammers. It should not take several days for a spammer to get banned. It should happen literally on the hour. Come on SE get someone on this banning accounts every hour. It would be a battle of attrition at first but if you have someone thats assigned this job it would make a difference.
I think I speak for the community at large when I say these RMT spammers ruin the atmosphere of the game.
The only effective counter is to have a simple, easy and quick way for players to report a spammer, backed-up by a 24/7 GM that can instantly mute the spammer's account. The account can then be investigated and banned at leisure.
Banning all the spammer accounts on Monday morning (when they've been spamming the entire game for the whole weekend) is pretty futile. It won't affect the spammers at all, because it's incredibly cheap and effective advertising at that rate.
Totally agree with OP.
The biggest problem I have with this game though is little stuff like this. If they can do minor patches and fix these little issues, this would be the perfect game.
