Hello and thanks for clicking :)

SoG/DnL is the worst game ever seen dawn. Or maybe it isent? Lets put that discussion on the shelf for now.

Instead, lets discuss alternative online games. Please do move on if you dont intend to help :)

Nominate a game we should move on to/take a look at. Please keep in mind that we are all from the DnL community and adjust your suggestions for that.

Yours

I think this is the reason nobody has responded.

    DAOC-14 day free trial.

Well, I've been playing the 14 day free trial of EVE online and I'm having an absolute blast with it. As a matter of fact, I'll be buying it soon and probably forgetting all about DnL since I can't even get into the server to play it. EVE has great graphics, a really great community, a professional and communicative DEV staff, total freedom to do what you want, and it's deep and intuitive. The only problem with EVE would have to be the steep learning curve, though it's really not too bad. The tutorial is abour 3.5 hours longimage. If you can't learn the basics from that, you might need to go play a simple game like WoW. Also, it's set in space and it takes place totally in whatever ship or ships you own, so no running around with a character and whatnot. If you don't like sci-fi settings or non-traditional MMOs you may want to stay away from EVE.

I have been playing Silkroad Online while waiting for SoG to let me in.

Free download, free account, no monthly fees.

But, it's crowded in primetime. And it is an oriental setting. But nice graphics, quests, versatile character development and kind of fun.

Will have to disaggree mate. Eve has more potential than any game out there. but its slow gameplay and low interaction is fatal.

I installed the DAOC 14 day trial today (US version). I must say that game has come a long way since I left it when TOA was released (EU version). I could easily see myself starting up again on one of the classic servers. Population numbers seem quite low except for some of the classic servers though, which makes me wonder if there's something going on that I'm missing. Did people just get bored in general or did something else happen?

    Yeah, World of Warcraft happened.

I left DAOC before the first expansion. I did love the time I spent playing it though. I've considered checking it out again but I don't want to buy the first expansion.

I played DAoC from release, and loved it for about 2 years but eventually got bored and quit. Then I came back after the Frontiers and Trials of Atlantis expansions came out and found that the game had gotten worse. The grinding you had to do in Trials of Atlanitis was mind numbing and if you did not get the Artifacts from ToA then you could not compete in RvR since everyone was maxxed out with ToA artifacts. So I quit again. I doubt I'll be going back to that game again.

Silkroad Online looks kind of interesting. Sort of engrish... but that's ok. I'll probably pick that up after finals when i get home. On campus we're limited to 5 gigs of downloads per week. And after having just downloaded SoG, Silkroad's 3 gigs would be trouble. So ill download it when i go home for christmas.

If you you're a versatile gamer (play things besides MMORPGs)... I'm currently playing Warcraft 3:frozen throne and battlefield 2 to kill time while I wait for a good third gen MMORPG to come out.

Personally I'm looking forward to Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (by mythic). It's slated for release in 2007... DAoC took about 18 months to develop so im hoping for maybe a mid year release in 2k7, but that's pure speculation.

Games in devlopment you might want ot consider:

    1.  Vanguard  Craftinga nd combat systems look like a signifigant evolution form previous games.  A lot of really new ideas in thsi game along with an experienced dev team.  Question is can they do everything they are promising and do it well.

    2.  Chronciles  Might be geared more towards dnl fans as its a small dev has pvp and full crafting.  Although DnL fans might want to advoid small devs after this game.  Pro=bably will be a disspointment.  Pre-ordering the game will immediatley get you into beta which is schedued to start after the finish their engine change.  Oh and they have said they will give people refunds there if you don't like the beta.

    3.  Conan  PvP and full crafting.

    4.  LOTR  If your a lord of the rings fan.  No PvP and mioght end up being very bad like SWG if they concentrate on solely marketing it rather than making a game.

    5.  Darkfall Similar to DnL in that is has been in development for 5 years although the Devs seems a lot better.  PvP and full looting a lot of old pre-trammel UO players follow this game.  Probably will fail but have to root for them.

    6.  ToA  a very small dev team with big ideas,  Full crafting full looting, city building 100 lives then death, complicated religon.  Goit to believe its vaporware as it has been in devlopment forever but again you have to root for them.

Lots of other games you oculd consider like DDO, STO, or some of the small games but I am guessing they are not your cup of tea.

    Games out now

    1.  Daoc   Best pvp game out there and one of the best community.

    2.  Lineage II Awful pvp sytem, great castle seiges, good meaning leveling time but very immature and badcommunity.

    3.  Horizons  Absolutely awful game but best crafting game out there.  If you came to DnL for crafting consider it otehrwise run fast away.  Strong tight nit community.

    4.  WoW/EQ2  I don't thiunk any comments are needed as they are all over these boards.  WIth WoW expect a polished, stable and finished fun game.

    5.  Eve I don't know enbough about it but many people like it.

    6.  Ryzom I played beta it was a quality game from a small dev.  Poeple say the crafting is good.

One game to keep your eye on is Trials of Acension looks really cool, pvp, player buildings,  good graphics and my favorite PERMA DEATH.
