I've never actually enjoyed playing a Casual Game, however with all the currently "bleh" MMOs that have been released recently I decided to mix multiboxing FF14 with World of Tanks, and a bit of Minecraft in when bored of the other two. It works out well for the most part, however I still yearn for an MMO that can hold me for 5+hrs, keep me daydreaming about it at work/school, and then regret the 5hrs I have to play when I get home before the next day's grind in RL.

That aside, I'm surprised there aren't more "This game SUCKS!" posts like there were with SWTOR. Was it mayhaps, the lack of over-hype? Is there some reason we aren't seeing FF14 spammed with so much negativity as we've seen in the past?

Personally, my opinion is that SquareEnix didn't go full-hipster and claim things that were over-the-top HypeNoTron statements like "Removal of Trinity!", "Real time Flashy Combat!", "ONLY 8 SKILLS TO CHOOSE FROM COMBAT SYSTEM!", "Skills based on Weapon used gimick!" etc etc etc.

FF14 just did what WoW did so many years ago, went out played all current MMOs, squashed everything together for one experience.

While I do have my reservations, it certainly wasn't NOT worth the money I spent which is surprising for me as a Sandbox player whom loathes Themeparks. Perhaps I've lied to myself into wanting something new to play :P?

If you want bad comments about it, just ask about customer service... I've never seen something so terrible since I started playing MMOs 15 years ago.

$30 dollars not worth 2 weeks of entertainment? sure if your standard of entertainment is paying zero dollars for a f2p mmorpg over the span of 6 months. Do you ever do anything like eat out, go to the movies, go out for drinks?

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

IMO its just a really well made mmorpg that didn't try to reinvent the wheel.  Every damn game that comes out tries to be revolutionary...and really its just a tweak to quest delivery or deleting the healer role...or something that they blow way out of proportion to make the game look like an instant classic.

Some people want nothing to do with how older games were set up, I get that.  There are tons of mmorpgs made for these people. However, it seems most if not all games made after a certain date long ago, tried to make their game for these people.

Its nice to see a game that doesn't pretend. Its just a well made mmorpg that isn't trying to make waves with some tacky new thing.

Yes I wish they toned down fates to be rare, and I wish they made group farming and a few open world dungeons to do that farming...imo that is all that is missing from the game.  And yeah I feel you do level up too fast, though they clearly expect people to focus on more than one class, and crafting isn't like most games its an actual class you have to level...so its not 100% old school hardcore.

Its clear there is a market and an appeal to a game like this, my hope is that other developers take notice and realize they don't have to jump on the bland wagon and make an easy mode game to do well...and that they don't have to come up with some tacky gimmick so they can use words like revolutionary and groundbreaking.

I just hope endgame is as good as it sounds.  I hope when pvp comes its not just pvp queues and something interesting...not only that but doesn't take the focus off the PVE (hate when pvp becomes the focus and it becomes hard to find people willing to do difficult pve)

Thus far this game has been exactly what I expected, which is actually a really good thing.

How refreshing to actually hear positive comments about a game on these forums!

Gotta strongly agree with the hype theory.  When are people going to learn not to get so hyped up about each and every new game in the pipe??

Wait until you see it and who knows, you might like it!

The truth is A Realm Reborn is actually a really great MMO in some ways, a fairly typical meh MMO in other ways, and a bad MMO in no way which is something this industry doesn't see very much of which is why I think no one was really prepared for it.

It's a beautiful world, the gamplay is solid, it takes some great ideas from Guild Wars 2 but doesn't throw the baby out with the bathwater the way that game did (still retains the holy trinity).  It instituted the Duty Finder from the very beginning (the lack of which hurt and continues to hurt other MMOs).  The amount of content in the game is staggering considering the short amount of time they had to put it together.

I think it's just a fairly solid MMO (and we're all so jaded that we don't trust it).

That said its' going to run into the same problem all theme park MMOs run into and will be essentially dead in 6 months anyway.

Hmm, that's a bold statement to make. I'd ask then what complaint made about TOR, TSW, AOC, etc... could not also apply to FFXIV?

...What...? Short amount of time? Do you seem to miss that the game was already developed, taken down, and redeveloped over a period of 3 years? How does that constitute a short amount of time? And what is this staggering amount of content? There's like one actual endgame raid dungeon, and it's not even challenging. I hate WoW and even I know it had far more content on vanilla release.

TOR wasn´t a bad MMO. I enjoyed while it lasted and got fed up With the terrible Company and how they handled the game population. Community wasn´t too great either. :(

The Secret World is a great and refeshing MMO and still going strong, especially since they went Buy2Play like GW2.

AoC.... well they did they Complete oposite of TSW and mishandled it in so many ways... it´s actually sad, as the game itself is great. :(

FFXIV ARR is a completely New game compared to Version 1.0.

It was completely rebuild from the ground up in a brandnew engine!

So far I'm enjoying the game very much. It's nicely polished and high production. It plays more like a Final Fantasy game more than an MMO, imagine that!

I'm going full caster and gonna get all the caster jobs which hopefully will take some time. It's too early to tell how the end game will shape up but at the very least I might be playing this for a year.
