Indie fighting game Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm (AoC) raised nearly us$120,000 on the crowdsourcing site Indiegogo - twice what they asked for - they can not get their hands on over half the cash.
An email from paypal advises that they have reserved the funding and will release up to 50% of the funds before Yatagarasu AoC is released and the rest only after they have verified copies of paid invoices. What is more, they provide no option to discuss, stating we should contact us closer to the release date beginning of next year to arrange release of the funds.
paypal refusing to provide funds legitimately raised to COMPLETE a game until after the game is released is just an attempt to derail the game development.
In April paypal tried the same scam on Skullgirls; Lab Zero raised over us$800,000 so they could make more content for indie fighting game.
paypal froze Lab Zero's account, locking them out of their cash and preventing employees from being paid (part of the cash was to pay the wages of the developers needed to create the content).
Following complaints, including one lodged with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, paypal have since opened up the account, though they are still holding $35,000 as "collateral".
In 2011 paypal froze Goldhawk Interactive's account for 180 days ("to protect against chargebacks") forcing the indie developer to stop pre-orders of its debut title Xenonauts (a strategy sim).
BOYCOTT paypal as the thief bankers they are trying to impersonate.

Paypal does this all the time.
They seem to think that any money paid through the service is actually theirs. Now with 57.3% more flames!
PayPal is not a bank and has no protections for the assets you funnel through them. As a transfer service they will almost always side with the people who have actually given them some assets to hold on to. Those asset providers are the ones who can cause PayPal more problems through charge backs and other methods.
PayPal isn't a matter of buyer beware, it's a matter of seller beware.
PayPal's primary function is to transfer funds between entities while making a profit. It's secondary function is to protect itself from those entities while making a profit.
