New to SWG and... I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!!!

Ok so I decided to switch from EVE to SWG downloaded the free trial and logged in as a smuggler

So the game looks great but it just started crashing, and I never could land on station Beta gamma or whatever, it crashes or it restarts i dunno. Also got stuck on hans solo's turret at one point.

So First I thought it was my fault, then I checked the SWG forum and saw that it was a classical problem many people had. The only solution found by players (not SOE) is you have to buy the game and it fixes the problem. otherwise the problem continues on and on and on.

I can't believe this. How much money are those guys earning! They can't fix it? This is nuts!!! YOu have to buy the game to be able to use the trial? I call that bullying and extortion!!! What's wrong with these guys at SOE they think MMORPG players are sheep or what?

Ok I'm very mad and maybe I shouldn't. But I was so happy to try the game, and I guess I'm used to having CCP (EVE) taking care of all our problems and bugs on the spot...

SOE has never done that.  Stick with EVE.  You'll thank us all later.

Sad part is you are only scratching the surface of the issues SWG has. SOE basically threw the game back into alpha testing a month ago, well paid alpha testing and by most peoples opinion lost in a few weeks 50-80% of its userbase.

Consider yourself fortunate that you didnt buy the game and get to enjoy the incompetance on a longer scale, like all us suckers who have played the game for years.

You're going the wrong way on a one way street dude!  Most of us are leaving SWG to go to EVE or some other game.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

I've had no problems crashing since I actually defragged all that mess. Try it.

    Actually, no, defragging wont help.

He is talking about the 10-Day free trial.

I also downloaded it to see what had changed between the time I left, right after the CU, and now.

It constantly crash's to desktop when attempting to land on any of the stations. I've attempted it on 3 different servers, with three different characters and two different mission types. Returning from the first pilot mission with actual space combat, as the first mission just gives you basic pilot.....Crashed re-entering the station. Attempting to go talk to the explorers bot friend, crashed trying to get into that station.

    My opinions on the changes?

Least it still looks, graphicly, like the game I loved and left. The duck-waddle run is still there, which was always one of my biggest gripes.

Combat is now 2x-3x too fast. Makes it a bit difficult to follow your target when the mobs are running around like Road Runner on Crack. The lack of a target-lock only adds to this impression, especially with mobs crossing infront of you that you dont intend to attack. Healing also seemed to be a bit on the fast side. There was never a time when I felt that my toon was in danger of being incapacitated, even while taking on 4-5 mobs, which almost always happened due to the lack of target lock. Specials were lack-luster, IMO, and really didnt seem to reflect the professions that I tested. There also seemed to be an imbalance between the amount of specials that some professions got at early levels. As a "jedi" I obtained 3 specials in rapid order, 2 as a BH, and 1-2 as a Trader.

The UI is sketchy at best, horrible at worst. The xp bar on the bottom makes it quite difficult to tell how much you have, and how much your gaining, while trying to keep the cursor on the mob that your trying to kill. Chat screen in the lower left hand corner is the same problem.

Populations, well granted I was just on the stations, as your not allowed to go down to the planets in the 10-day trial, but I saw a total of 3 people across the three servers that I tested. Then again, your only allowed to create toons on very-light/light servers so I guess I shouldnt have expected to see many people. What really shocked me was the fact that only one server, Bria, showed as "heavy". On top of that only two, Ahazi and Bloodfin, showed as "medium". Everything else, 22 servers total, showed "light" or "very light" populations. I remember the days of Pre-CU when most of the servers showed at least "medium" or higher server loads. Maybe it rebounded from Pre-CU to CU, but it sure hasnt from the CU/NGE.

Character creation, I see they have added a new race or two, but I hardly see where that offsets the loss of so many professions. The professions that I did try were Jedi/Trainer/BH. Jedi, force sensitive really, was kinda lack luster. I could only get one "mission" from the Jedi trainer, which seemed kinda odd to me. Arguements of if one should be able to start out a toon as "force sensitive" or not aside, it felt more like the old TK/Pikeman professions. Hardly very "jedi". On to the "Crafter" profession. WOW! Talk about sad. I remember the old days of the profession, having been an Armorsmith/Weaponsmith in the Pre-CU. The interface was there but little of the old enjoyment was. I failed to find a crafting station that worked on the starting station, so was unable to work on the experimentation part of it. Its hard to put my finger on it, but it just didnt have the same feeling to it. There wasnt the excitement or suspense that I felt before while crafting. Having never played a BH, Pre-CU, I dont have a base-line as to how it used to be, but currently I didnt really see much of a difference between it and the "jedi" profession other than one is melee and the other is ranged. While some might see this as a valid distinction for two seemingly different professions, I guess I have higher standards when it comes to this.

All in all, I cant really say the NGE is a step backwards from the CU, but I didnt like the CU either. IMO, its more akin to a step back and to the left for the CU and a step back but to the right for the NGE. Neither one of them have the depth or play experience that I enjoyed back in the Pre-CU build. Combat is buggy and entirely too fast. The UI has gotten more difficult to watch, especially with the speed that combat currently runs at. The loss of the combat log worries me, as there is now little way to test or distinguish what kind of damage that your actually doing or test the advantages of one profession over another or one weapon over another. The loss of server populations is even more discouraging, as the strongest selling point for this game to me has always been the community.

All in all, I see little to no reason to return to the game at this time, or anytime in the near future baring some radical changes.

I haven't encountered any problems since uninstalling SWG.   Uninstalling at least works as intended.  :D
