First off,I don't really know that much about WoW. I've never played it. I've only seen a couple of friends play. From what I've heard WoW is a great game and stands its ground very well. Some of its best features I believe are its combat system,PVP and graphics. But from what I've heard you level way too fast, the game promotes too much soloing and lesser social gaming (could be wrong here) and dying is pointless. I started FFXI 6 months ago and I can say that I've found a game I can play and almost all the time have fun. The game's strong points are its social "engine" (if you might) since it promotes team play, the great amount of activities you can do,the vast areas you can explore and the fact that you can level all jobs on one character. Although many believe that Ballista (FFXI's PVP system) is weak I find it very interesting and can't wait to take that up as well. They even started having inter-server tournaments. The game though has a very weird economy system; prices fluctuate way too often. The waiting time when lfg can reach a good 1,5 hour (but hell I fish and believe me it gets addictive ::::26::). Some people also find the fact that u have to do quests in order to obtain alot of priviledges a little frustrating I love it. Keeps me out of the routine grinding. Anyway, the choice is yours. If you decide to play again,I'd be more than happy to help you get back on your feet. Just gimme a PM and I'll give u a World Pass to come into my server. ::::39::

Final Note: I don't know that much about WoW that's why I don't have so much detail about it. ::::08::

I've been asking myself the same question, i played ff xi for about a year before i began looking for greener pastures.  While i was away from the game i picked up a copy of WOW.  My personal opinion was that it was lame, it reminded me of daoc only you could solo for longerwith moore success.  I've since been playing silk road and think i am about to go full circle and come back to ffxi.

my reason are the following :

    1. strong community

    2. comfortable game play

    3. mithras are sexy

    4. i miss it dearly

Well... I did come full circle. Played FFXI for a long time, gave it up, played some other stuff (including WOW), and then came back. Trouble is, the population plummeted while I was away. It wasn't horrible. The server wasn't empty, I mean--but it was just enough. There was only one group per level range in Valkurm the whole time I was there, and I waited a week trying to get a group in Qufim before finally giving up and declaring the whole thing was a lost cause.

I still think it's one of the finest games available, but the trouble with forced grouping is that the server must be able to provide the population necessary to sustain advancement for characters of all levels. It couldn't do that for me anymore, and so I was forced to quit playing again. On another server you may have better luck though, so more power to you.

Really? What server were you on? I'm on Remora, and I have no troubles getting parties in Valkurm...in fact, I played in two last weekend, one pretty successful and the other, well, less so (but I still finished with more XP than I started with).

Couldn't find a party? Weird. I play in Ramuh and trust me,Valkurm and Qufim are easy to find parties of all level ranges. Sure,it takes awhile but I just lay back and fish my time away until someone invites me. ::::39::

Played FFXI for long time...finally had to give it up. I couldn't pay off my internet. Rather have cable internet than waiting in qufim for three hours.

I was kind of wondering too, left way back when WoW went open beta and haven't really looked back. Biggest issue was me being a Dragoon, and Dragoons being crap. I think Pentathrust got nerfed around then and since I was already having to wait 3 hours for a party I ended up going entire days without one invite.

Anyways, have been looking around different forums, but it's hard to find out if anything has really improved. Know Dragoons got a new two hour, but I had no trouble keeping my Wyvern alive in the first place, just seems like a small step really.

It all really depends on the feedback the company gets from the players. There were alot of complaints about DRG on the forums. I don't know anything about DRG but recently I partied with one after the update and he was a big help.

I Think WoW would most suit your tastes, You always find a group and the Trade community is great, But WoW is a simple mans game, Anyone can pick it up and it takes no skill, Always the same thing and all you do is Fight, Group, Fight. Very boring and easy.
FFX1 is ok but i quit a few months ago after getting totally bored.
After trying Dark and light ive come to a conclusion and going to wait for The chronicles comes out.
SoG let me down so much, ::::16:: If the chronicles doesint please me then im quitting mmorpgs.
So i would reccomend WoW for a while and then have a look at other games coming out.

Ah gantabruv don't give up on mmo's. I agree with everything you said, WoW being simple mans game, and FFXI is one of the best mmo's I've played, but it does get boring (I had a 63 Ranger, and and 60 Dragoon on my char). I don't know much about the chronicles, but there are many new ones on the horizon that look to be great, Vanguard, darkfall, RFOnline, Spellborn...all looking to be pretty good.

P.S. I was also letdown by SoG, heh and I spent 60$ on the preoder, I'm going to stick it out though and not give up on DnL just yet though.

    My opinion matters to everyone...
