Should FFXIV have In-Game Voice Chat? (POLL)

fistormfistorm Member UncommonPosts: 868

I'm finally fifty, and I am doing alot of pug groups, and am seeing mass confussion in dungeons.   Alot of the 8 man dungeons people in PUGs do not want to explain the dungeon to the new players, so they either shout for experienced players only, or simply let the person whos new get one shotted and die alot along the way.

I think voice chat would definatly eliminate alot of this negative experience for people in PUGs.  What do you guys think, should FFXIV have in game voice chat?

As long as I can have it turned off, yes. I do not want to hear your or the voice or anyone else inside the game.

I think every online game should have in-game voice chat.  I'd like to see options to chat with party members and for players to create their own voice chat rooms.  For example, you could create a room in-game and invite friends/FC members to join it instead of just party members.  That would be incredibly convenient and I can't understand why anybody would be against it.

Pretty much this. Not all console players have keyboards and rely completely on voice chat in most games. With the game being cross-platform, it could definitely use the voice chat.

It just needs to not be terribly done like it was with Defiance, which even though it was not cross-platform did not include options for push-to-talk and muting voice chat at the start for PC.

Maybe we will see it implemented at some point, but considering SE didn't even have the sense to add a block / blacklist option to their right-click menu which has other options, I don't see that going too well.

as long as there are programs like mumble, teamspeak etc, there's really not much need of it, and so far it looks like the voice comms of choice, is mumble anyway.

Yes, for the simple reason that the game is cross platform.

Normally, a third-party program like mumble, ventrilo, or teamspeak can do the job quite well, but these options don't exist for PS3 or PS4 users.  Since voice chat becomes more useful as end-game content gets more difficult and involved, it means the console players start getting left out because the text chat interface is difficult for PC people, and nearly impossible for folks using gamepads.

In short, the game needs an in-game voice chat that auto-joins to party and/or raid levels.  A push-to-talk button that can be mapped to keyboard/mouse or a controller button (L3 would be my choice) is essential, because nobody cares to hear you screaming at your child/pet/spouse. :)

Only want it on in pvp and raiding. Guess vent will have to be used.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

I say yes as long as it defaults to off and kicking someone from a party for not using it is a bannable offense.

It should be there for the groups who want it but id rather just l2p and not use it for non raid content.  And i dont consider 8 man to be raid content.

Doesnt bother me one bit. However all the VOIP that ive sampled which came included with an MMO client has sucked giant donkey balls. Its never worked well! Hell, I think even WoW had it at one point and has since removed it because no one ever used it.

What they SHOULD do IMO, is cut a deal with one of the big 3 VOIP companies and implement it into the game. In other words Mumble (probably the cheapest) would allow SE to implement it into the game so that itll connect with mumble servers. Itd benefit mumble because theyd get more FC's to license their servers while at the same time players would get quality VOIP right from the client. PS3 players would probably benefit from this the most since they currently have to resort setting up a VOIP client on their PC or smartphone.

    No.

Voice chat is already well covered by several different programs that are popular and in common use.

For MMORPG companies to add it just adds more customer support messes (since so many people have their computers in a general state of shit) and more technical hassles for them to worry about.

Why recreate the wheel or add to your customer/tech support woes when voice has already been thoroughly handled?

What I'd rather see, personally, is for some company to come up with the "trillian" of VOIP - one program to rule them all.  Vent is still popular.  Mumble is popular and gaining.  TeamSpeak is used a little less for MMORPGs but it still in heavy usage.  It would be nice to have ONE client that could connect to any of those servers, kind of like how Trillian is a front end to a variety of instant messaging services.

Because, the only real bummer about existing VOIP is that to really be fully setup for it you need to have multiple clients installed and ready.  I have my own vent server that a lot of my friends hang out on.  We've been using Vent since early WoW.  Most of those people are not computer savvy and don't want to use anything else.  Hell, some are terrified to leave WoW even though they're bored.  My FFXIV FC uses Mumble.  A buddy who used to play WoW with me - he and his RL buddies all use TS.  This kind of spread is common and mucks simply saying, join us on our voice server.

I suppose having voice in the game takes care of the problem of multiple clients, but since so many guilds already have voice you're basically causing them to have to keep track of two services anyways, and I would still content it's just a feature and tech support item that MMORPGs, which are already complex enough, just don't need to delve into.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

For whatever reason everyone in this game uses the 10 year old vet voice chat...which has horrible voice quality.

im down for anything that would make vent less common.

Yes 100% it is the single most important feature to any multiplayer game. All mmos should have this. It is the only reason I have kept on playing lotro this long.the benefits of voice chat is huge with no downside, just don't use it if you don't want to.

Yeah I find it funny how PCs are supposedly far superior to consoles, yet console multiplayer online games always have voice chat. PC games multiplayer do not. You have to use some 3rd party voip that makes a lot players voices sound like crap due to band width.
