Bored? Try rift again

Been searching for that next great mmo because you played WoW for too long and got bored of it?  You should seriously consider giving rift a try, even if you tried it when it came out and didn't like it.  Personally I hated rift when it came out, I don't know why but I did.  Anyways I recently saw it went free to play so I tried it out and haven't looked back since.  Here are some reasons to give it a shot.

1)  Upon hitting level 10 you unluck thing's called instant adventures, the lfg dungeon tool, and the looking for warfront tool.

a) Instant adventures = join a large group of other players and automatically get big group quests and just go around the map turning the npc's to shreds.  The xp is very fast and fun if you don't feel like questing.

b) LFG dungeon tool = self explanatory

c) wafront tool = warfront's are the games battlegrounds, the pvp in this game is fun once you learn your class and which spec you enjoy using

2) There is an endless amount of class customization.  Yes there are those "Set" specs that everyone says are the best.  However this is mainly required for endgame raiding.  When leveling you can have many different roles, you can heal, aoe, dps, dps+heal, tank+heal, etc.  Basically you can change your gameplay up on the fly

3)The cash shop literally gives you no advantage when you hit end game.  When leveling up you can use the gems to purchase good gear every 10 levels, however it's kind of pointless because you get great gear from all the dailies you do.

4) DAILIES.  Forgot to mention these.  All those lfg tools, instant adventures, etc.  Have dailies.  Meaning you get extra xp and loot chests to always have up to date gear for the most part.

5) I'm only level 32 (also have a level 24) but am thoroughly enjoying the game for some reason.  The graphics are fantastic by the way.

6) The community is very helpful.

7)Subscribing isn't necessary at all but does offer nice xp boosts.

8) This game has the trinity (tank, heal, dps) however it also has what is known as support.  Any class can be support which means they dps+heal or add other supportive stuff to the group

So more people should give this game a shot seriously.  Glad I did because it's giving me something to do and I look forward to hitting 60 and raiding.

Totally agree with you, Mike. Started playing again when it went f2p, and still enjoy it ( played it for a year when it was first released), even when FFXIVARR stole a lot of gaming time from Rift. Love the gritty visuals, contrary to the comical graphics of WOW and now FFXIV.

Problem with rift is the animations and optimization, I played as well and loved everything else when it went free to play but stopped around the 40's due to those reasons. My attacks don't feel like they have any weight to them and Rift is one of the only mmorpgs I can't run max without lag. It's horribly optimized considering I can run Tera, GW2 and FFXIV max no problem.

Having said that, The dimensions system is outstanding, maybe missing some features but still awesome.

Check it on patch 2.4 and again 2.5. They have through Dev forum posts confirmed there are performance changes/enhancements finally hell knows why that didnt happen with the expansion 10-11 months  (and according to the same source, only reason the first round of changes didnt come in 2.3 was to minimize risk of problems with the F2P transition). They kinda failed anyway, the new zone still causes random crashes to pretty much everyone still to this day when you port to or in any place within the Dendrome zone, but w.e i guess, not like 99.9% of the f2p casual will ever even manage to get to the point where they will have anything to do or reason to be in an endgame zone

When I started playing Rift again a few months ago, I really started to get into it and became a Patron.  Love the role switching which makes the game even more fun.

What I really like is the Cash shop.  This is the first one I have liked out of all the games I have played.  You ask me "Why use the Cash shop when you are subbing?"  Well, I like the perks you get as a patron and if I want something I have the option to buy some stuff using REX.

Some items are so expensive in the game that it would take you forever to get enough Plat to buy something.  I am a casual gamer and really dont have time to grind it out.  Plop down 20.00 USD, boom, I have 3250 REX which can buy allot of stuff.

Bags, gear, weapons etc.  Yes, you may be able to find something better through questing your butt off, but hey, I like the option.

Overall, it is a very well made game and there is always something to do.
