It's a better value than going piecemeal. Also soon the ROTHC minispansion will be free to subs. IF you like the game you're better off subbing for sure, too many restrictions for those who do not.

Yes, or at least sub now to get a free copy of ROTHC and a few items.  also a big update is coming on oct1, so is a good time to sub.

That depends on how much you are planning on playing.  If you are going to play once or twice a week for maybe a couple hours, not at all.

But if you plan on playing all the time, you pretty much need to sub to actually play the game like you want.

Nobody can possibly answer that for you, without knowing what you are looking for, your hobbies, your playstyle, what you expect, how often you play, etc.

Same thing with "what trinity role should I play?".  Only you can answer that.

In terms of entertainment value for money the £8.99 I pay per month is without doubt the best spend I make all month. So yes, it's absolutely worth it imo.

Not only that but subs are now goin to receive RoTHC for free so it's a better time than ever to be subbing imo.

It's not worth your time, let alone your money imo.

Best levelling experience of any MMO to date tbh.

It has the most immersive story lines of any mmo out there and it is also releasing content quite rapidly now

Just so people don't claim me as biased I played at release and agreed with how bad it was and the state it was in. But lets not taint an MMO with the same brush. Like people they grow and change and sometimes that is in a positive manner, adding and building upon bad foundations.

There is no point bashing a game which has clearly improved and updated itself to deal with the criticisms. And the 2.4 patch looks to be improving the PvP further which can only be a good thing

I should know I have been on MMORPG.com longer than any of you, and I have played them all, including FFXIV up to level cap

People who like it will say yes and people that don't like it will say no.. That's the only answer you need :)

If you like the game as a free player and decide to invest more time in it, a membership is well worth it. While F2P is a viable way to play the game now (wasn't the case at the introduction of the model), there are many small cosmetic and convenience limitations. I can only recommend the game.

Love the people who have never played the game and said ¨NO¨. After almost 2 years the game is still alive and doing good, MMOs need time and probably with a few more updates the game will be close to be that TOR MMO that everyone was waiting 2 years ago. The space xpac or update is real, and it will have Space PvP, probably will be all about pvp and looks like it coming pretty soon, that will bring back to the game really a lot of players. The big issue with swtor is still the ¨hero engine¨.

If you are going to play, you have no choice but to subscribe, it's crippleware otherwise.  That said, if you're looking for a single player rpg, SW isn't bad up til level 50.  The minute you hit 50, unsubscribe, and uninstall.

You'd have to want to PVP everyday & level up multiple alts to get anything for your money. IMO it's one of the worst games ever made and you should consider putting the money toward something more desirable.

You have no idea if anyone who said "No" played the game or not.

    What Distopia says is true.

I play SWTOR, I enjoy the crafting and being in a virtual Star Wars world(s). I find that for me Subscription is the best value and I do enjoy SWTOR somewhat enough to justify the cost in my mind. I play this "mmo" completely solo and as a solo virtual world that is Star Wars "ish" it's wortht he $29.99 for the game time card for 60 days of Sub. It allows me to get my SW fix and do so with most of the bells and whistles. I do not spend real money in the CM at all.

Your mileage may vary with this one, it may vary by lightyears.

***If there was something more desirable that was Star Wars I would hop to that in a heartbeat.... but any MMO built on this particular IP will always be worse than the MMO made previously... that's how this IP is managed. I have ZERO hope for anything better in the future, that's why I tolerate a sub-standard game.***

If you're actually going the play the game then without a doubt.

As a subscriber you will get an XP boost over free to play, plus you will actually gain rest XP, which you don't as a free player. When I was playing SWTOR, that was well worth the subscription alone. I don't get to play games as much as I used to, so my game time is valuable to me. Even if the XP boost saved me 3 hours of levelling (which it does, and more) then it's well worth it to me.

As another poster mentioned, you'll also get ROTHC free, which provides additional value. I'm sure that you could level a single character to max in a month, depending on the amount of time you put in. At any rate, the stories are good enough that it probably justifies a play-through. There are 8 distinct stories (4 classes per side), so if you enjoyed it enough to go through each it would probably keep you occupied for the next while, for sure.

Also, while you're subscribed, you can purchase unlocks from the auction house or using the monthly cartel coins you're awarded in order to make it less painful when you do go back to free to play.

I would recommend subscribing at least for a couple months.

If you're a Star Wars fan, yes it is. As far as credibility goes on Internet statements, the actual fans (read the official forums) spend hundreds of dollars to buy stuff from Cartel Market. And if you're one of them, the actual subscription is no money at all.

If you're MMO player with no particular fandom invested on Star Wars, try the f2p before you make your decision. I personally am a MMO player and found the game really bad. And I mean bad as a MMO.

Try out the f2p anyway, it's a good case study on a MMO that shouldn't be. Much like the license games Ocean made to C-64 :)
