Engine Mode

Has anyone played with this setting. Getting a little late here but was noticing an option earlier in the log in process to adjust this setting. Out of time to test it myself this evening but was wondering the results others may have had tweaking it.

Bah I put mine on engine mode 1 from 4 and I don't notice much difference at all. It's slightly smoother, but so what when you know you're gonna crash from a DnLg.exe error or some other reason?

I wonder what causes gthe DnLg.exe error.  I personally have not experienced it, prolly because I can't get in game to begin with, but who knows.

I had it on engine 6 and then inside I put on /enginesetquality high and was running smooth...in crowds I was getting about 10-13 fps but In non crowded areas I was getting 25 fps.

I've only had one crash to date, and I run at engine mode 6 with all the toys turned on. It's pretty, but they really need some tutorial NPCs in the opening towns, the barony chat is flooded with 'How do I get my dragon', 'Where do I find mobs?', 'Ou est la bibliotech?'...

Flying is fun as all get out :)

    And Dodo's can really move!

Animations are a bit jerky, with luck snail will help with the models. Landscape is beautiful. They could use a couple of different mob types... one gets tired of killing lizardmen and wolves :)

Oh, and to those having issues with 'you have been disconnected'. I found that disabling virus scan stopped that. I hope they fix that soon, as I really don't like having VS off =/

The DnLg.exe error might have something to do with ATI cards. It seems everyone with an ATI card is experiencing problems. Or at least everyone who's complaining about problems ingame has ATI.

I have ATI, and I not only crash from that error, I crash from other strange errors. Sometimes the screen gets all screwy with horizontal lines then I CTD. And I never have this problem with any other game. Just shows me tnat SoG has a LONG way to go before it's playable.

Man, I hope the DnL beta isn't like this! I had such high hopes for DnL but they're not exactly making it easy to keep up those high hopes.

I imagine my fps are pretty low... i set engine quality as high and the graphics on my char looked great, just really glitchy running around... can anyone tell me how to actually check my fps in game please?

I have an ATI card too. I keep crashing out every 10 minutes with graphics all screwy, and then the dnlg.exe error.  Was hoping I could find a fix for it on here.

I've tried different engine settings, and quality settings. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

To check your ingame fps you hit the the little circle in the lower left corner to bring up the menu list. On that list there will be a Debug option. Choose that and you can see your fps in real time.

I also have an ATI card and have gotten the DNL.exe crash message. I there is another post on here somewhere that has a possible fix for that. I am gonna have to go back and see if I can find it, then pray it works.

to find out the fps - just click on the #debug icon in the menu (after you press the moon in the bottom left hand corner) - that will give you a little screen which you can watch with the debug info.

Are you talking about the fix where you replace the dnlg.exe and ini files? I tried that, and it fixes the bug at launch, but not the crash after 10 minutes bug.

I played around with /engsetqaulity low  and   high. That let me play longer than I had previously, but then I crashed right as my hopes were going up that I might have stumbled across a fix. (I left settings on high, just toggled them a couple times at beginning of playing)

i'm just happy i'm not the only one.  i have a X850 and you know it's the graphics cause the screen gets shitty like your graphics card is over loading or something and then you know you're getting the error in about .5 seconds.  though sometimes i'm able to play the game for like an hour... other times i barely log in.

Yeah, the graphics go all freaky for a couple secs before the error and crash.
It's gonna suck to crash in the middle of a cool battle or mob hunt. Hope they can figure it out.

    9800 256M card here.

yeah well... the servers are down at the moment and they had shut down right when i was flying over water.... so i can't wait to get back in to swim my ass to land lol.  and i just made shadow knight =(  it's sad cause i was one of the highest level people... now... i'm not.  but umm.. i have a job so i can't complain right?

remember first getting in the game and everyone was just sitting around asking how to get their dragon, how to do this and do that.  i was like.. F this *runs out of town away from lag and starts leveling*

I have an Nvidia 6800Gt and I also get the Dnlg crashes so it's not just ATI cards.

Click the DnL icon on the lower left and select 'Debug'. It will tell you the fps there.

I had originally set the Engine mode to 4 when I first began playing and was able to play 30-40 minutes before being disconnected. I then put it to 1 or 2 and was getting disconnected every 2-5 minutes. After getting sick of that, I put it back up to 4 and have had decent stretches of time before being disconnected again.  Anyone else experimented with this and noticed similar happenings?

The engine uses more CPU and less GPU at level 1.  The higher you go up the more GPU than CPU.

So, if you have a high end card, a higher engine level will yield better results.

So, you may have to play to find the best value
