Having played many MMORPG's such as TSO, THERE, Second Life, SWG, WoW, EQ2 and AO, I have to say Horizons has the BEST player community of any game I have ever played. They are helpful, friendly and mature.
I started playing HZ a little over a month ago after running away from EQ2 and the incredibly poor customer service. While EQ2 is a great game that I played over a year, it was completely overshadowed by the lack of concern from SoE and the bad service. Horizons might have problems with performance, may not have the latest graphics engine or 5 million players, but the community overshadows any problems the game might have.
I strongly encourage anyone looking for a game that has a great, involved community to give HZ a try! I was quite surprised and LOVE this game!

I have heard stories of the bombing of London (my home town/city) during WW2. They say that it was the adversity that everyone faced that made the community so strong.
You can apply the same to HZ.
no its simple math. The smaller your playerbase the less likely you deal with a jerk factor.
I garantee this if the game gains 50,000 accounts over night the community will not be so cozy.
As well the people playing horizons now arent stupid. if they drive people away the game sinks and make no mistake it cant afford to lose even one account. The game is around today only because of its playerbase and not because Tulga chose to keep it running.
One of the reasons for the good community is that there is no open pvp. In games mainly designed for pvp i have met people who take a unique pleasure in pestering noobs and killing people for spite or to feel strong and feared. There is no ganking in horizons.
I would wish for more roleplaying (there is no separate roleplay server in Europe like in the States) and of course the idea that adversity has strengthened the community ties has merit for especially in Europe hz history is one frought with broken promises and disappointments.
In general i have experienced the other players as helpful, full of good advice and often quite generous. That goes as far as taking a great effort to communicate with players who don't speak english very well.
