If there wasn't a market for these kinds of games, they wouldn't be made. But there is, so they are. You may find it distasteful. That is your right. Other people may find these types of games right up their alley. That is their right. Neither of you is wrong.

What is the definition of explicit?
"Showing or referring very openly to nudity, violence, or sexual activity"
Do any of these MMOs fit the definition of an actual “Adult MMO” The only game close to this is Scarlet Blade but even with the nudity it is only erotica and teaser. Not explicit sexual nudity or engaged with topics or environments that are very much adult in content. This is why these games are rated M and not AO. They lack the fundamentals to be true Adult MMO’s.

Majority of these games on this article’s list have either been censor in some way to remain as PG-13 as possible for the audience despite their M-ratings or have lost their adult meanings in the process.
I find the excuses for prudishness in gaming to be founded mostly by personal bias and rejection of reality. Books have sex-content in it. TV have sex content even more than the games at times. Then again, I wonder if every MMO website out there is not the very lease endorsed by a conservative mentality. Some companies are trying new things though like the AO development titles for Oculus Rift.
If one were to say they like pixel male in a game it would not matter, but if one were to say they like pixel tit, it is bad. This is mostly due currently to the political influences of certain feminist liberal groups who are pushing their own agendas into gaming for the $$$ interests. Playing a video-game makes no difference in terms of who is more self-righteous on the subject of sexuality and is more of a personal preference of the player. I dont think adult games are those that show nudity and lots of blood. Maybe on paper but not in reality.
I consider EVE Online or the Secret World as the most adult MMORPG due to its rather mature setting and story-telling.
