First off I would like to tell pizzadude to not ruin my topic... Just... Just stay away kid, okay?
What I want to say in this post is that I have hardly experienced any of thoese problems many others have. I think you are exaggeration the problem.
I've played the game for a few hours on a friends computer. We got some errors fromt he start off but it was fixed with help from the mmosite forums. We made a darkelf and waited 20 minuttes for the char to be created. Then we quit the game, spend some time on the tv and after one hour or so we tried again. Our character was created and we connected to the world. First off we started in the newbie area, it was pretty laggy because of the loads of players that just joined. We quickly began our journey and walked up a big hill. On the top of it we found some lvl 1 and 2 spiders that we started to kill and we gained our first lvl after a few kills. We got our first melee skills and in one hour we were lvl 5 and riding our dodo. We gained some new equipement(though we didn't see much ) and some Goth, which is the ingame currency. The game crashed for the first time and we couldn't get in again and we later found out that the server went down.
Overall we had fun ingame. The only problem Farlan and np3 have right now is all technical, which can and will be fixed in time. The two first ingame days have not been such a big succes for Farlan and np3 and of course they do know. They are working on it. Give them a break, will ya?
What I think is the biggest problem here is the community with the age below 18. They are exaggeration this whole techical problem and my god the DnL section is full of them. They have obviusly not followed this game as much as they say. They would know that SoG is not DnL.
I see no reason to regret the pre-order. You havn't even seen anything of what you've bought!

This is my review that I posted in an earlier thread.
Ok, I got into the game finally this morning before work, and played for a bit.
Pros:
I like the huge world.
I love how you actually slow down when running up hills and speed up or tumble going downhill
I love the jump animations and the diving.
Flying mounts is an incredible feature although not being able to move the camera puts a damper on it.
The snowboarding and stuff is pretty unique.
Cons:
The graphics detail is no where near what I expected from a new release. First generation at best.
The fighting system is pretty clunky, difficult to control anything.
The camera system needs alot of work.
No content, just run around and kill mobs or PK people.
The sound has a strange glitch where it sometimes starts to screach, and you have to turn off the music to stop it.
Numerous bugs with various things.
Overall:
The game had potential a few years ago, but now the poor graphics engine really puts a hurting on it.
The lack of content (ie. Quests, Crafting, Immersion into something going on in the world) will take alot of work to implement, and I cannot see any of this being completed before April of 2006.
In general, if NP3 does not do a major overhall on the graphics engine and does not get some kind of immersive content into the game, then there will be no way I'll pay a monthly subscription for DnL in April.
Just an honest review from a longtime gamer.
I would have to agree on the sound. It is also very repetetive.
But I like the graphics because I've never seen any other mmorpg with such a beatufil horizont. The distant is really amazing. Also for the content, they didn't promise much.
I'm really excited about how this game is going to look in half a year.
And thanks for a serius mature ontopic post, Glavian
So because you and your boyfriend didn't have a lot of problems that means everyone else is exaggerating? Yeah, no.
The technical issues are real and not being exgarrated, but they are also the least of SoG's problems. SoG is just a bad game with horrible graphics and even worse gameplay. Those reasons alone are enough to avoid the game completely. But, when you also factor in the incompetence and lack of communication from the developers, it becomes an easy to decision to stay as far away from this game as possible.
Run , do not walk, from SoG as fast as possible and never look back. This game is a nightmare that is only going to get worse.
You see!? Your the freaking problem here!
The pre-order was not for SoG! Holy Christ do I have to spell it for your Birdseeds!?
The thing that puts the icing on the cake is that they actually took 8,000 orders for $60 knowing quite well what they were offering. People could of gone out and bought a new X-box 360 game for that price or fed some children in some third world country. Either would of been better.
After knowing this I don't know WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS would continue to support them or the project.
"The pre-order was not for SoG! Holy Christ do I have to spell it for your Birdseeds!?"
Your right it wasn't for SoG which is DnL in it's current state but we won't get into that. Point is they advertised SoG as a finished game to play.. Not an alpha costing $60.
Dnl is histroy.. It will go down as the worste mmorpg fiasco to date. They dug themselves a grave when they took those 8,000+ orders for $60
I mostly agree with you, but still the problems I have been seeing leave a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. I think it si the apparent disorganization of their work. I think the product has POTENTIAL, but I have been seduced by potential before (SWG, MxO, EQ2) and have always been disappointed.
I'm starting to be of the mind set that is a production cannot get it right from the get go they are not going to be delivering a good product. I'm not saying bug free, but I am saying an organized approach to dealing with those bugs, and a level of communication that doesn't bend over backwards to whining forum demands, but communicates the game's vision to the player base.
So, I'm still looking for that. DnL isn't providing it for me so far. I see some promising games out there, like vanguard or fallen earth, but they are still WAY in beta. None of th games on the market right nowcut the mustard.

Yup, you're open minded. But you're also confused. SoG was a LARGE and ADVERTISED part of the Pioneer pre-order. We got special mounts IN SoG, we get to keep some money from SoG into DnL, we get to leave behind a legacy from SoG.
WE PAID FOR ACCESS TO AND FEATURES IN SoG.
It was part of the Pioneer pack, a large part. Compared to 48 hours before launch (and judging by SoG's launch I bet we'll lose out on that too) SoG is more of a feature than pre-play or a title or pet (don't even think it's a mount in DnL...)
The fact that others were allowed into SoG without the paid features does not negate the fact that we paid for SoG as part of the DnL pre-order. Heck, I wouldn't be suprised if our $532,771.19 paid to keep SoG running. So, we actually paid for you to play.
Well, I was finally able to log in and I just have to say, whoa..... what a horrible product. I mean, is this ALL they've been able to accomplish in the 3+ years that this game has been under development? It's pathetic. My ferret could've done a better job.
Crashes every 5 minutes or so, 1.9 to 19.9 FPS with the engine turned down to 1, the shaders set to low and the res as far down as possible and that's with a 2 month old, 5,300$ machine, zero content, scarce mobs being camped by everyone because they're the only mobs around for 20 miles in every direction, no NPCs to interact with and the few you do find have nothing to say but some random, poorly translated giberish, 1st to 2nd gen graphics at best, a huge world.... that's empty, boring and clunky combat, equipment that doesn't show up on your character, 1 to 3 character custumizations per selection and a horrible UI.
This isn't a beta, this is a 2-5 month old alpha is what this is. If I didn't know better, I'd say they began working on this games graphics back in 2000, made the world then stopped all production untill about a month ago. There's no way, absolutely no way in hell that they'll make this steaming pile of crap into anything even remotely resembling what they promised for DnL. It's just not possible. You'd have to hold me at gun point to get me to play this shody excuse for an "event" ever again and I can't imagine anyone would be mind numbingly stupid enough to buy this product if it actually releases as DnL in April because it needs probably 2-4 more years of development to become a game anyone in there right mind would buy and pay a monthly fee for.
When and if they ever get enough guts to bring the official boards back up it should be quite interesting to see everyone elses reactions.
SO ture! After playing SOG it doesn't matter how much they fix in DNL in the next few months. I'm not playing beta, they are so full of crap!! i just want my dam money back and move the hell on... This was a rip off!!! nothing like what they said at all. They cant even hold the severs up no longer the 2 hrs?? YOU THINK THEY WOULD OF HAD THIS FIXED BEFORE PUTTING OUT THIS CRAP!!!!
They should just start over and start with their stuid name

I must agree with the OP here. Before I had a chance to log on I'd hear a lot about bad avatar graphics, bad lag, bad UI, and bad camera control. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't think any of those things are problems. I have a year-old computer and my graphics engine setting was at 4 and I saw nothing that bothered me about lag or the graphics. No, it isn't EQ2 or SWG quality graphics but nobody expected that if they were paying any attention to the development of the game they signed up for.
It's always difficult adjusting to new UI and camera controls but DnL is no worse than others I've played (and I've played quite a few mmorpgs). The only thing I found terribly frustrating or disappointing was the frequency of CTD's. But I can't really say I'm surprised and I have no regrets about downloading SoG yet.
