Obviously the fanboys have been working overtime making new accounts. Notice all the other games ratings went down so not only did the fanboys articially raise dnl's rating they have been lowering the rest.  Even Mourning had more content than this game.  It does not deserve a one for hype.  The real question is how long until this game folds.  Wish had 60,000 people in its open beta and it was a far better game (even though it was a terrible game) than SoG/DnL and they folded within a few weeks when they saw the reaction.  What will kill this game is when they can keep the servers up long enough for people to see how bad the combat system truly is.  But on the other hand I guess it will not cost them much money to keep a website running so in theory this game could exist in development forever.

it has been stated elsewhere that the hype-value is based on a complex algorithm that is not sensitive for temporary effects and is able to buffer short-time trends. So it is definitly not so easy to manipulate a hype value significantly in just a couple of days.

It doesn't appear to be that complex.  The day GW came out WoW's rating dropped form an 8.6 to a 7.6  One can only assume from all the GW fans rating GW high and conversley attempting to lower WoW.  I would not be suprosed if some development teams do not make accounts for the express purpose of fixing ratings.

I think the real question is how that POS RF Online managed to get to number one. It didn't even have a spot on the boards until a week ago. It's just another crappy korean clone like a thousand other games out there. There were so many mixed reviews of the game when the PH beta started and everyone played it.. I have no idea how it possibly got that popular.

The ratings are based on averages/number of votes

True. All other games are still in dev. and not even close to releasing. Will only be a matter of time.

No they are not - I think it was either En1gma or one of the other Devs who explained that its more complex.
It was more like monitoring the development of the Votes since day 1 and using an average of these values. So a sudden short-time drop will not affect the overall result in a significant way.
Ah well I am too lazy to look it up again, but maybe one of the Mods can help me out ;)
