well how much is that really saying? You did better than two of the top 5 recent mmo flops?
Ok debbie downers. WAR had impressive numbers early on, over 400k subscribers, and something of over 1 million copies sold. WAR flopped several months into launch, after people saw the lack of endgame and badly optimized RvR. We have no idea if ESO will be bigger than SWTOR & WAR combined, but if ESO reaches WAR's initial numbers, then it'll be impressive in itself. The key for ESO is retention, something WAR failed at.
I agree regarding the retention as well as the "debbie downers" LOL, that was funny hehehe. Anyway, that was the purpose of my other Eurogamer End Game Thread, to show that they are already well on the way to ensuring retention isn't an issue. Now whether they actually execute their plans is a wait and see :-).

3 million isn't as much as you would think? Were you expecting a trillion? A gazillion? That's a shit ton of beta sign-ups. Obviously, it means nothing in the grand scheme, but that's the most I can recall a game having. Skyrim sold what 11mil copies or thereabouts? this is free the only prevention to sign up is really only laziness or disinterest.your average gamer doesn't beta test any game. how many beta testers signed up for skyrim? i bet it wasn't more than 11 million hahread the follow up, it was merely an example of how pointless it is to draw conclusions from an irrelevant data point .i agree its pointless to draw any conclusions but you said "the only prevention to sign up is really only laziness or disinterest."that's what i don't agree with. again, your average gamer doesn't beta test any games, is that because they are lazy or not interested?it was a tongue in cheek example of how pointless it is to draw conclusions from beta signups. 3 Million people and they've sent out 100 invites haha I'm losing interest every day in this game! If they sent out invites every week would make people stay around and pay more attention to it. If they want my 15$ a month they better give me one. Also there was a post on here the other day about a private server of ESO and I can confirm there is one! You can kill mobs and so on but not all NPC's are there. It's more of a EMU process going on!

Considering DARKFALL got 1 million with no advertising... and TESOs marketing budget is 5 times the size of Darkfalls game budget..

Yeah I was thinking it would be alot more than that...How many copies of Skyrim, Morrowind, and Oblivion were sold.....They should have got 10 million alone from all those people.

its a lot of the same people signing up for every beta test, surely you are aware of this?
how many people beta tested wow? how many people beta tested skyrim?
most of the people that play games like skyrim or mainstream mmo's are not going to sign up for beta.

Skyrim is a single player game. Single player games always outsell MMOs, even free beta-testing. The MMO audience is still pretty niche. Not sure why you would have expected an MMO to have Skyrim-like numbers.
All it really shows is that it's a big budget mmo that's on a lot of peoples radars. That shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that plays these games. Everyone wants to try the next new thing for free if they can.
How many of those tries, translate into box sales is really all that matters.
I Have a feeling the retention rate on this game will be very very bad, I do hope it turns out amazing, but from what I have seen and read I am very skeptical about this game, hoping I am wrong tho.

Shrug... an MMO you want to stick with for a year or more is ideal but in my experience that doesn't happen very often any more. Some of that has to do with the game itself and, IMHO, a bigger factor is what else comes along after it... and "things that come along after" are happening a lot more often than they used to... Archeage, Star Citizen and EQN are just three that I can think of right off the bat that may pull me away...or not.
Longevity isn't a huge criteria for me any more. Thinking along the lines of $ spent vs. time played, MMOS are still a good deal even if you only play for a month. SP games that last longer than that are the really good games that are the exception, not the rule... and if it's a AAA title you're going to pay somewhere between $40 - $60 for the game initially whether it's SP or MMO.
Problem is... the SP ES games fall typically into that category of "really good games" that we usually play one hell of a lot longer than 1 month. So it's hard not to compare ESO longevity to Skyrim, Obvlivion etc. But if you compare it to other MMOs and most other SP games you're willing to spend $$ on, it will still be worth it for a month. Christ, I loved Bioshock Infinite and played it for just 1 weekend lol.

Honestly after this weekend I think you'll be reading a lot of hate on these forums over this game. After my experiences from past events, I think the game is less than stellar. Mostly due to the fact that with such a massive expanse of lore that they could have pulled from they ended up creating this... It's a WoW clone in TESO skin with a strong focus on PvP. In all the time I've played Elder Scrolls there has never once been a moment where I thought to myself... "Hmmmm, PvP would make one awesome addition to this game." I wish they'd have just dropped TESO and went with a multiplayer elder scrolls game instead. Hell, I'd have been happy with just one other slot to run around the awesome game world with a friend. Instead we're getting a sloppy ES game with multiplayer rammed down its throat.
