Dave Georgeson takes to the airwaves to answer the latest round table question: Contested Content: Yea or nay. Non-contested is instanced, contested is competitive game play for spawns and bosses. The plurality of people (46%) want a mix of contested/non-contested content. Find out what the EQN team has in mind. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Since they put specifically in there what they mean by contested and non-contested, will we stop seeing people claiming that this somehow links to ffa pvp?
"A larger portion of EQ:N will be contested." Some of you better hope for PvE servers Oh, what's that? You think they are going to build and open destructible world, with a large portion contested w/o Wpvp? lol
NO! Uninstaanced dungeons DO NOT HAVE TO BE CAMPED COMPETITION MOBS. YOU CAN HAVE UNCONTESTED CONTENT IN SHARED SPACE!
Fuck, did they learn nothing? NO INSTANCING. If you had just come out and said "Instances or no instances" in the poll, I'm sure the answers would have been WAY different.
Because he's really excited and thinks he looks cool if he makes posts claiming the opposite.
I'll take that as a no to my question.
I din't know you had a question. I commented on your question anyways Broke it into two paragraphs so you can read clearly.
I would like to see them mix static camps around in contested zones. But, have a random factor to where bosses can spawn. That way people can make camps and fight inside zones with others. Without no lifers doing the same boss for 20 hours a day. Maybe make it so different boss mobs can spawn in several locations, that was one person can't lock down something for days on end. And if you can get in control of a camp room you have a shot to get some drops.
I'm hoping this is the way it works and I'm also hoping this keeps database sites like Wowhead out of the picture. Make player's earn the reward instead of just looking it up and heading to coordinate xyz

Why do you still follow this game? Its not being made for you.
Its like walking into a chik fil a every day and expecting them to have burgers.
Funny how SOE's idea of "Round Table" polling works:
(1) Ask intended audience a question
(2) Reveal poll results
(3) Inform masses of design decision that had already been made long ago.
for the record, contested != pvp ( at least, not in the Kill other players sense)
I took it to mean it would be like the original Everquest, but as with everything else they announce everyone seems to be interpreting it their own way, especially as it concerns pvp. I don't see why they don't just come out and say how pvp will be handled and be done with it. Well, I take that back, I know exactly why they are not saying they are getting lots of conversation and page hits. When they finally do announce what their plans are they are going to piss off lots of people whether it is those that want ffa pvp or those that don't.
I appreciate the fact they are trying to include the community, but they are leaving so much out about "really cool" stuff. They should either make these round table discussion with updates' or atleast a part 2 to recap and relay what they are actually going to do.
I am still waiting on PVP and how it will effect contested areas to decide if I like their direction, there is too much in the air still.
The coolest part about this video to me is that dungeon monsters will move like the open world monsters. That to me is the most interesting part!
Agreed. I love EQ 1, but I would love to hunt the mobs and I would love the mobs to feel pain. I mean if I was a boss getting stomped int eh same area over and over, I would want to find a better spot or kill the city where the players live.
All their marketing and hype material says its for me. Why wouldn't it be?
Is it purely for players who don't mind bad game design?
all about just generating talk/hype perhaps?

Guess thats why they're carefully picking their words... =D
Not everyone sees the question entirely as a matter of Black or White.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
My feelings on this, if they can pull off what they plan: This would create a world that every time you login you have to explore and find things to do, not knowing one day to the next where something may be or what loot may drop. That to me is awesome as it would help things not grow stale by giving you a sense of adventure and I'm all for it as long as there is enough variety/content in the emergent AI content to go around
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
This isn't a matter of black and white, it's a matter of a shitty unclear poll question.
Was it just me or was the only thing made clear was that they are not talking about PvP yet?
It sounded to me that they are looking to change the rules about contested and uncontested content. What they are trying to get away from is the contested static spawns. If the Orc boss moves around the area due to a number of external pressures and you have to go and find the boss (yeah for Rangers) then that eliminates camping.
What they still haven't addressed is shared reward or how to prevent kill stealing. Either everyone gets credit for assisting in the kill and gets some reward or only certain persons/group get the reward because they did the most damage or struck first or what ever logic is applied. What I hope is that we don't go back to the EQ1 contested where an UBER group could run through the area and one shot the mobs, including the named mobs and leave the other players constantly scrambling to find the mobs.
So I guess greasy hair + makeup is the new sexy.
Anyways, I dont mind instances as long as there is enough noninstanced content to make the game feel like an actual MMOG. Lets hope they can make the ingame world insteresting again and they give us reason to travel and return to zones we liked.
