1 is the combat going to be just like a first person shooter ?
I'm not good at that type of gaming. unless it has like a tab to target key. if i have to keep cross hairs over target thats the death of me, I'm old and cant keep up with the kiddies. its also one of the reasons people with handicap's don't play those types of games.
2 crafting what type of crafting will be ingame ?
If the loot is better than the crafted items, this will drive away crafter's. Not saying that all crafted loot and items have to be even just need the ability to get close.
what things will we be able to craft ? food, guns, cars, houses, armor, med supplies > ? i really dislike Sci-Fi games that have magic healing ? i would play wow if i wanted a cleric.
3 resources
will it have them. if so, will it have stats on them so that a crafter has a chance to improve his product ?> crafting people ( like myself ) don't play for the fighting we play for reputation as the best crafting! Is there going be some type of harvesters ? or does everything for crafting have to be looted ? a combo of both would be nice . crafter love finding that really good resource spot. I like a more real feeling crafting game.
loot.
u know i love decorating a ingame house will all the loot be guns items for combat ? if we have a house picture statues, table or items we can make to create those things would be great ! many people ( wife ) and such love to decorate ingame or make clothes. trust me it sounds stupid but my wife enjoyed tailor so much in swg i had to build a second computer for her so i could play also. she never once got into combat. she just loved the idea of running a business ingame. some will remember poizens meds on ahazi. that was me. my wife does not want her toon added here. she feels silly.
anyway. just wondering whats all going to be ingame here. peace tooth.

Sorry, but everything up to this point is speculation. Hopefully soon we'll get some more solid info.

I guess this is the only one than can even really be approached at the moment. Various gameplay videos have shown both twitch-based FPS gameplay, as well as what at least appears to be turn-based gameplay - particularly in melee. It's fairly reasonable, in my estimation at least, to say that the game will likely have both. Personally, I hope we aren't forced to rely on twitch skills (or ping in other words) during combat.

Its nice to see older peaple gaming.
I think there will be twitch gaming in it. and i hope there is good crafting and resorces to colect to.
just reread my post.. good god i should have got some sleep before i posted that.
as far as older. you should have played swg a year ago. many many 30 something players. But like many of them im looking for a game thats not all about how fast you can click. i dont mind fast combat, but if thats all the game is about ill not stay long. Im watching this game becouse well, its not D&D type of game. I love D&D game but im from the PNP era, so ive killed enough orc's in my gaming life. peace pv
I can't give any specifics cause too much is still being developed, but I've noticed a couple posts from non-shooter oriented folks who seem to disappear when they see most of the talk centered around FPS combat.
What I can say is that the role players, the non-twitchers, and the crafters are all being respected. Our attempt is to make a true hybrid which incorporates immersiveness into combat, but doesn't overwhelm you with it.
The FPS discussions on this forum are so prevalent because no one has really nailed it in a massivlely multiplayer rpg format. How far you can depart from target/autoattack and still make if fun for all types of players is a work in progress and therefore bears the brunt of the discussion effort.
To the original poster and all those like him. Stick with us. I think you'll end up finding a very happy place in FE (if such a thing can happen in a viral, mutated world with no good plumbing). And by the way, 30's is not old!
Heh, 35 and still gaming...
...not sure what that says about me though. lol
Looking forward to seeing what you end up putting together. I wrote a long post of suggestions and reasons other games have failed or are floundering, but for some reason it just went away when I hit the submit button... and I didn't copy or save it first, so... it's dead, Jim.
If I get the drive to rewrite it all over I'll submit it again sometime.
Cheers!
Actually I read an article about market distrubtions not long ago and demographically, the MMO market is dominated by interstitial gamers
That was a very encouraging post. That's exactly what I (and many others I imagine) wanted to hear.

I hate online twitch combat. It ends up boiling down to ping and lag and thats no fun for anyone except the guy with the lowest ping who ends up looking like a god who can be in 3 places at once and kill everyone before hes even seen.
I'm not really going to say much one way or another, except that I certainly will be paying close attention to the development of the game. As time nears for Beta's.. and it looks like it will just be a ping war.. I'm outtie.
I agree. I'm not really looking for this to be a FPS. For that I'm keeping an eye on the upcoming game "Huxley" which will hopefully put Planetside in the dirt.
I'm more interested in seeing this develop into a sci-fi mmoRPG. Emphasis on the role playing and adventure in a sci-fi setting. Twitch belongs in the FPS games, not RPGs.
Just my humble wish...
well i *am* looking forward to the FPS gaming of FE, even though i am bad at FPS games. i think it will add a lot of fun to the game, im not for click and attack it makes it to mutch like pen and paper games and i play plenty of thoughs as it is.
also sci-fi MMOs should of been first but i bet they will be the best.

ty for the reply, IM not used to dev's that do such things. All i know is im not going anywhere for one, no games out there appeals to me other than this one. If you can make it a mash of both types of combat you will find yourself with a good following.
Again ty for posting, please don't stop, its nice to treated, well like a future customer
mmorpg combat as it is in this day and age, click click click, wait for beast to die.
boring.
I can't wait to see fallen earths combat
Whatever you fine people at Icarus do, I will love you forever, I like turn-based combat, I like twitch combat, I like that combat that's kinda turn based, (what's it called? Like World of Warcraft's combat?)
However, I'm not a huge fan of click+click+click+click+click+click+click+click+click+click+click+click+ combat.
PS: Woot, first Fallen Earth forum post, (I think)

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
i am actually looking forward to it being a FPS type game. I have been looking for an MMO that relies upon a persons skill and the skills of the toon.
If i spend millions of hrs getting the best of everything in the game that doesnt make my charicter uber or leet, or whatever. A mediocre player player with good reflexes should be able to stand toe to toe with the best of them.
if use use the excuse "i am old", get over it and get better. I know many players in thier mid 50's that play twitch games such as DoD, and CS (day of defeat and counterstrike) and they do very well at it. because its not all about speed and reaction time, sure that helps, but so does knowledge and patience. Most of the players i know from DoD do horid for a while, but the body is an amazing thing! It adapts! my reaction time has gotten better and better over the years of playing twitch games. I started playing twitch games the same time as another guy known as Winghouser a few years ago, "Wings" is in his mid 50's, and a Vietnam Vet, and he started a little slow but over the years he has adapted and gotten a heck of alot faster in his reflexes.
games that are 100% macro and template get old fast. an example of one is SWG. it started off great, then everyone was asking everyone else what what the best template, so... everyone goes that template and everyone uses the same items and sets up macros. They click 1 button to fire off thier macros and wait and see who had the better equipment. That play style is not for me, i enjoy knowing that i have the skills, not some pre programmed set of skills that everyone else has.
suld a hear that all to often, and i am a bit concerned with it ( i dont have mutch XP with FPS online other than X-box live). i on the other hand think that if they think they can make it work, go for it! i would rather have a lag filed MMO that has 5 seconds of glory when the lag clears, than a game that is no fun becous the creators where not willing to take a chance.
just one mans oppinion.
At this point in the mmorpg market, I am looking forward to anything alittle more innovative. Lately, some mmorpgs have tried to incorporate more of a faster-paced, twitch combat system. I tried out the new Star Wars Galaxies, but didn't like it.
I've also been in a couple of betas that are trying this type of combat. They have NDAs so I can't comment on them, only to say that I am both impressed, and also struggling to get used to the new systems.
Fallen Earth is headed in the right direction. I am not feeling alienated because of the FPS hybrid type of system that may be in the game, but I am still concerned about how it will shape the game and what types of players it will draw to the game.
I am a roleplayer. FPS and roleplaying just don't seem to mix, but that's not saying the folks at Icarus can't change that!
