First off, Hello! First post here and seems like a great community.

So for the topic, I have been out of the loop for awhile now. Last mmorpg I played was Vanguard (Beta). I am now disabled but trying to make the best of it.. so I have many hours to sink into a game.

My favorite games were Everquest 99-2001, DAOC and Shadowbane. Basically I am really looking for a game to sink some serious time into but also that has an "old school" community feel to it, I know you can't live in the past or whatever but I would love a good mature crowd for PVE where you are not forced to group but more of a fun element.  I am just kind of lost on what game to try, I played P99 a bit (old school EQ) which was great but I feel I need something new, got a great gaming rig just need to put it to good use =D Also not much into the sci-fi / alternative games like second life. Really just want a fantasy game that has a decent player base (doesn't have to be huge), good PVE with grouping.

Any suggestions and a little info on the game would be great, thank you guys!!

If you really prefer to stick to medieval-esque fantasy, I'd suggest Rift. It's free to play and you don't really miss much at all by not ever spending a dime on it. The game's strong point is the vast amount of group content it has, as well as a very interesting class system where you can mix and match a lot of different skill trees.

My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

Awesome thank you Alber. Forgot to put this in the first post but how is the crafting in the game? Any thoughts on the new Final Fantasy? I have heard that is supposed to be pretty group focused.

I will give Rift a shot for sure, can't go wrong with FTP to atleast try it. Thanks again.

I'd check out TSW actually. It has issues but tries to appeal to the older MMO players.

Secret World looks pretty damn cool and different. I watched some videos and just read up more on it.

Rift's crafting is pretty similar to WoW.  gather, click, combine, 100% success, 100% skill up chance if its an item aorund your skill level.

If you like crafting, three options worth checking out.

And FFXIV is one of them.  The other two are EQ2 and....Vanguard

It never really resonated with me, but VG is MUCH better than you last played it.  Community is small but probably closest youll get to old school community.  You can solo your whole way up, but the game has tons of dungeons to do too.  Just finding people to do them may be tough, but if you plan ahead and are social youll be bale to get gorups going.

EQ2 has the most content and if you try it before oct 15th you get a free higher level (not max) character if you dont want to deal with the top heaviness of the game.  EQ2s actual crafting procedure isnt as fun as VG or FFXIV but crafting gets its own levels and content (heritage quests and epic quest for example)

Both VG and EQ2 can be played f2p so no reason to not try them.

FFXIV is new so isnt top heavy.  but you have to buy it before you try it.  Which shouldnt be that scary, youll get your money;s worth id bet.

LOTRO is also worth a look, as is Rift.

Check out FFXIV:ARR... it's sub based but only cost $30 for the box (first month) and is the first MMO in a long time that I actually feel is worth sinking time into.

It's very much a PvE game (arena PvP is coming in next patch), mostly soloable, but with fates (think group based events that spawn around the map) and dungeons there is also a fair bit of group content to be had. The community is fairly good in my experience, with most people willing to help out... find yourself a decent free company (guild) and join a few link shells (social circles).

Edit: The crafting is also really well done. It is still recipe based (you get them as you level your crafting class), but uses skills to increase the chance of getting a high quality version, with high quality components, gear, luck and cross class skills all being a factor. I'd recommend lining up a TV series or 3 if you plan on doing gathering though.

If you wish to try TSW, there is an post for buddy key requests: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/404/view/forums/thread/356621/Please-Post-All-TSW-Buddy-Key-Requests-Here.html

Or you can send me a PM with your email. It is really a great game and offers nice change for all the fantasy games over there. More people should really give it a try.
