Who thinks this combat is soooo much better than the WoW button mashing shitfest or Darkfalls shit melee combat?? The only game to have it done is Mortal Online, and although most of the gamebreaking bugs are gone (leaving the annoying ones of course) ppl still bash it as an alpha state game.... Well its the funnest alpha Ive ever played lol (and funner than other AAA games with shit gameplay) The FPS like combat with hitboxes and stuff is damn incredible, just add massive amounts of players (like 50v50 sieges) and the shit is EPIC

I'm playing Chivalry Medieval Warfare right now, and I can tell you with full confidence that it's HANDS DOWN the best combat I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing in any game. It's just too damn fun. And the tactics and strategy are done perfectly. Right now I'm hooked to it. Of course it's only multiplayer, but imagine if we had something like that as an MMO!
MO is horrible. It would have been a good mmo if it had at least Skyrim quality. But right now if feels like pre alpha.
Combat mechanics and perspective is only a matter of preference. In mmos i think (note i said i think) third person has a bigger audience and at least to me it plays better in third person. With that said, If companies astart making First person mmos now i am totally OK with that AS LONG AS they also offer a third person perspective so you switch at any time to suit your playstyle or specific situations (like SKyrim). I wouldnt bother with First person only mmos. I have enough with shooters in FIrst Person.
I personally lose immersion when playing in First Person unless i am using VR (like Occulus Rift) which i dont have so........ yeah.... First person with a controller doesnt offer any immersion to me. Much less long term enjoyment outside of the occasional shooter
First person view is just not right for mmorpg. I don't really feel any more immersed, the only thing I feel is limited vision of surroundings. If I play mindless shooter it is fine to run around in first person view, but when I play 5 person dungeon in mmo and I have a full tab of skills I need to use on teammates, I need to see clearly where everyone is positioned at the same time.
First person only when Oculus Rift goes mainstream.
How do you get 50 v 50 sieges in a game that doesn't have 100 people playing?
I feel the same way. If i want first person view, i've got tons of instant gratifying FPS i can play. But that view is kind of limiting for a RPG.
I can't wait until Oculus Rift takes off and tech like that becomes mainstream!
Or even angled monitor screens.
You guys are missing the point of first person view, the "limited" view is the reason you can sneak past someone in CoD without having to cast a ridicoulous invisible spell.... If you add a third person view it would kill all of this....Why doesnt it feel right? I myself get ten times more immersed with first person view...
Imagine a 50v50 Age of Chivalry match in a persistent world, now that would be awesome... And MO might be a bit buggy and have low population but its the funnest mmorpg Ive played in ages, and there ARE enough ppl for sieges (just had one with 150+ ppl in it a couple of weeks ago)
You miss the point of how mmorpg's work. FPS have their own gameplay that fits first person view. You can add all the features of FPS into RPG, but there will be still elements on the RPG part that do not work in that perspective.
It is similar as playing chess in first person view. Yea it's fun that you can sneak in a horse and you can't see where queen is, but the entire point of the game is lost. RPG's require tactics, positioning of pawns. Healers are in one spot and need visibility on every other unit, dps needs to see where tank is, who is targeted by monster etc. etc. Same goes for boss mechanics, they are designed for this perspective.
That is why we have that separation. First person shooters, where strategies are based on player vision, and strategy/tactic/rp games, where strategies are based on unit abilities (skills) and positioning.
There is no such thing as strategy in first person view. Tactics of soldiers on the battlefield are all about shooting and taking cover, sneaking and killing. It is the people that sit on top of the hill and see the big picture, that make orders on where to move units. And rpg's should have elements of both sides, that is why there is third person view.
Although the graphics are basic, Mount and Blade Warband is so much better than ChivMediWar
Its mounted combat alone trumps the best that Chiv has to offer.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
Ive had 200 vs 200 battles before. It was like BraveHeart.
It was a clusterf**k of people all over the place. People were getting run down by horses or skewered by lances, arrows whizzing by, throwing axes spinning thru the air, and clusters of people just hacking and bashing each other to death.
I think the fight last a good 20 minutes and my guys morning star was drenched in blood and so was he from head to toe.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
I find there are generaly alot MORE tactics and strategy in most FPS games I play then in MMORPG's. You simply need to realize that there are more tactical elements that come into play such as situational awareness and line of sight.
It's one thing if you are playing a game where you are CONTROLING multiple units...such as a turn-based or RTS game. They simulate such elements by using mechanisms like Fog of War. However, when you are only playing yourself then perfect visabilty and awareness around you starts REMOVING tactical elements from play.
Deus Ex, Fallout 3, SKYRIM, even Borderlands .....
There are tons of highly acclaimed and successful RPGs built with a first person view.

Wurm Online is more like the original Elder Scrolls game than TSO will probably be imo, but hope i'm wrong, but yeah Wurm is a pretty good concept imo, that game has some really good concepts and execution overall even if it is a bit boring.
Aka, I like lock picking peoples stuff.
Don't forget Everquest, that game's primary perspective was first person back in the heyday. They had or added third person later and it always felt clunky but I guess it was there for people who wanted to use it.
