Looking for a recent dungeon crawler MMO

wagnerjonhwagnerjonh Member UncommonPosts: 8

Hi guys, i'm looking for a good and recent dungeon crawler MMO (please, dont talk about diablo and PoE like in other places that i asked this question). I've played that Dungeon Hero version, named Hero of the Obelisk, i liked the concept of the game, but i cant deal with that awful anime style, with male characters screaming like girls when attacking.

I'm looking for a 1 or 2 year old game, not anime style, f2p or p2p (preffer with subscription mode, but that games doesnt exists anymore), fantasy or sci-fi, browser or client, 2D, 3D or 2.5D (yeah, i already seen that).

I dont know if anyone here already played a game called Mythos, that game is crap, but is that kind of game i'm looking for, but with a decent publisher and developer.

Thanks for the help =)

Neverwinter, perhaps? Fits to the "1 year old, f2p, fantasy, client, 3D" categories, and it has a certain diablo-esque feel sometimes. Not a dungeon crawler per definition, but maybe worths a check, it's only a few gigs of a download and free :)

Thanks for the reply, I tried it in the early stages, was fun to play but all that thing with custom quests/dungeons was looking pretty "exploitable", and indeed it was, the custom dungeons were the easiest way to level and get currency.

The game has improved? Is well populated? And the things I've been reading about PWE, with extreme p2w games, I dont wanna fall in that hole. But I'll take a look, thank you!

    Wizardry Online

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

Thats the one with the permanent death system right? I dont know how I'll handle a character loss that way. I'll do some research about it, thank you.

The Foundry was hit with a nerf bat pretty hard.  The only thing you can reasonably use it for now is achievements to kill a certain number of a certain monster type, which of course mean nothing.  Some players make very neat quests that are enjoyable (and if qualified to be a Daily Foundry quest, include standard loot), but the experience rate isn't anything special anymore.

And just so you know, gold is pretty much a useless currency in the game after a certain point.  All the big purchases will require astral diamonds.

Neverwinter has a few items on the cash shop that are serious advantages (like the ioun stone which is best-in-slot for most classes).  In addition, the enchanting system (with combining enchants to get a new higher rank one) is where the ward cash shop game comes into play.  If you're not concerned about having the best enchants in your gear, though, the game is generally F2P without a hitch.

The game has a decent population and it's really easy to find groups for the end-game content.

Thanks for the info BlizzardShill, and yeah, I don't mind to have the best enchant or something, I just wanna get to a point were I can do all the PVE the game offers without spending abusive amounts of real money, which for me is about $100 in a decent character.

So I'll try Neverwinter again, but I'm open to other game sugestions!

Pretty much what BlizzardShill wrote. If you don't chase the "highest gear score, wanna be best in everything" state, just wanna get to a point were I can do all the PVE the game offers, then the game is free. All the PvE content is open, pvp as well, there's no gating in the game except a few minor / cosmetic ones (like a race or companion available only for those who's purchasing a pack - but there are similar ones in game accessible to everyone else)

Everything in the store can be reached without paying (getting AD ingame and trading it to Zen, the store currency), but store isn't needed as well, mostly just convenience. Like bigger inventory (the default size isn't bad either), or better mounts, better crafting stuff, etc. Maybe the companions are the only category worths checking, the common ones are a bit weak at the endgame. But it's not a big deal either, since during you get to lvl60 you'll probably earn enough AD to buy an Ioun Stone with it for free, that's a great one.

(and you can get companions for free during the ingame events, the skeleton dog is pretty good, and the pig at the summer festival... well, at least looking funny :) )

    Hello again guys!

So, I played Neverwinter last night, and it was pretty fun, lots of people in the town, i couldnt even read the chat because it rolled so fast, I've looked on the cash shop and didnt see a exorbitant quantity of game change itens, don't know about the prices yet but i expect they to be, at least,  fair.

Just one thing is bothering me, that "aim to hit" thing, I'd like to at least lock in one target and cast spells to that target without need to aim. To the meele attacks its fine, but i mostly play a healer/support role, I dont know how hard it is to heal in Neverwinter. I'll search some stuff about that.

But, for now, I'll keep playing Neverwinter, but I have one more question, I'd like to play a 2D dungeon crawler, anyone knows a good one? I know  that I can go to google and search myself, but most part of the information about the game, the reviews and opinions dont match with what I like to evaluate in a game, so a bad game for most part of people can be a good game to me, so google doesnt help me so much. I hope you guys understand that.
