I don't remember them saying MOBA or really talking much about what the actual gameplay is in that trailer. Looks more like a 3rd Person Shooter, but still interesting.

You know, I'd be perfectly okay with this if they'd announced a long-awaited (by me anyway) sequel / continuation of the story from the end of LoK: Defiance. Since there isn't though, I have just one question for Square.

    [mod edit]

I hope this game fails miserably. This is a bigger betrayal than X-Com: The Bureau was slated to be until Enemy Unknown was announced. Disgusting, just disgusting. A slap in the face & kick to the groin for fans of the series.

    Go fuck yourselves, Square.

It is just a game. Don't like it. Don't play.

It is a free world. Square don't owe you a thing. They can go after any audience they see fit. And given how big MOBA has become, i am not surprised they will try to go after that market.

While I agree I think that Swedish_Chief has a point, albeit worded a bit too passionately. The problem is that games have become quite expensive to make and the prices continue to rise as gamers expect more and more from AAA titles. It can be disheartening for a fan of a series to see the series turn another direction in the quest for more money. It's important for devs/pubs to carefully weigh the balance of fan disservice against the potential gains by going another direction but the loyal fans will often be disappointed.

Mass Effect comes to mind for me where I loved the first game, then in the second it was more shooter than RPG then the final where it was pretty much Gears of War in the Mass Effect universe. I understand that there's more of a shooter draw than an RPG draw but I would have loved to see the game stay true to it's roots.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

Lol as a fan of the series I was not expecting much the first time I heard about nosgoth and the fact it would be multiplayer. I was prepared to buy it though just to support it and help letting the company know that there is a intresst for new lok games. After seeing this however, all intresst I had for this and any future lok titles has utterly evaporated.

This shows that people play lip service to "innovation" and when devs really change things, they complain.

Personally, I like titles going different directions, because that create more variety. Worse case is that i won't play the sequal .. and we are talking about games here. So there is no biggie. There are tons of good games and other entertainment out there.

When I read about it a few months ago just by reading Nosgoth and Legacy of Kain made me really excited....that was untill I saw the game had little in common with Legacy of Kain.

I remember that series as being far ahead visually for it's time back in 99, beginning of 2000. So to impress me with a new Legacy of Kain game it sure needs to really go next-gen visually. The story, the puzzles the 2 realms. It was one of my favorite older games.

Unfortunally this version just seems to be a multiplayer game. Sure it might be fun. But from what I read and have seen they might aswell have called the game Vampire's vs Humans Online.

Hope on being wrong and it might actually turn out more LoK than I thought it would be.

Oh one more thing, not sure where this MOBA comes from?? Atleast I supose most MOBA's are isometric?

Nosgoth is a 3rd person competitive, team-based Human versus Vampire free-to-play multiplayer experience set in the brutal fantasy world of the Legacy of Kain series.http://nosgoth.com/faq

Unless games like Call of Duty, Battlefield are considered MOBA's there day's??

X-Com: Enemy Unknown is an example of innovation. They saw what made the originals so popular, and produced a game which managed to retain most of the feel of the original while making necessary changes to modernize the game & make it more accessible to people new to the series. Granted, I didn't like all of their changes (interception & the tactical map were a big letdown) but overall the game was a very solid reboot / reimagining of the series.

Nosgoth, on the other hand, has almost nothing to do with the original games. It's an entirely different game genre altogether. Furthermore, the vampire clans available don't even match the timeline or the lore; the Razielim were wiped out by Kain after he condemned Raziel to the Lake of the Dead, before they could have a chance to evolve like their progenitor. or in other words, the Razielim never had wings. The fact that the company making the game couldn't even get a relatively simple detail like that right doesn't exactly make them appear as if they have a lot of respect for the lore.

Like I said, if this were part of an effort to reboot and / or revive the franchise as a whole, I'd be more forgiving & even supportive of a game like this. As it stands, it's an affront to myself and most likely a good number of people who have followed this series since an odd looking Zelda clone called Blood Omen first appeared in the Playstation section of our local video game stores.

The most damnable misery of it all is that in the end, I'll probably end up supporting the game despite my anger simply because I want Square to see that LoK still has a strong fanbase out there, waiting for a proper game.

I really hate this hobby sometimes.

You are way emotional about just games.

I suppose it is your prerogative to be emotional in anything you choose, but i won't. So what if they change direction. Either i like the game, or not. If i enjoy a game, i play it. It is that simple.

I don't "support" anything. It is not a political cause, it is mere entertainment.

    It's free to play...

Try it out, and if you don't like it...quit. Could be something fun to toy around with, could be a complete and utter disaster...all depends upon how they go about doing things. Would be very interesting if the Vampire classes were based upon each "clan" from the original brothers presented within LoK:SR. We never did get to see what became of Raziel's brood...and we now see a winged class.

They COULD add a rich background for the game and turn what seems to be a trivial concept into something truly interesting...or it could be a very sloppy, trivial, trinket that people care little for. Thankfully, it's free.

    It's just a game. Chill.

And there are plenty of other games. No need to get all banged up for just one game.

On a side note, the developers seem to be fairly active with the community and willing to listen to advice, so that's a pretty cool thing. Who knows, this might actually turn out pretty good in the end...something to mess around with at the very least.
