So what do you think?

Isn't there a "Mature" rating for this game? Personally, I think the kids are in beeg beeg trouble, and the game company as well as Wal-Mart will tell the prosecuters to stuff it. I don't think that playing violent video games leads to violent behavior.

Hows about you guys?

wtf is wrong with kids these days.. its not the games doing this to them.. its something in their stupid heads, when i was little i played violent games and watched hellraiser and candyman.. im just fine, i could care less about the rating of games im 19, but there is something very wrong with todays youth

Or possibly with the parenting of today's youth. With parents having less and less "time" to spend...the kids tend to get things to keep them busy, instead of time spent with the family. I know that once I got my NES, I actually looked forward to getting sent to my room. :) I have been playing violent games since I could put a quarter in an arcade, or hold the single button atari joystick in my tiny hands.

I think its a combination of things.  Families just arent very structured or close anymore.  With both parents working in most families and the way society has changed a big part of the problem is probably parenting.

Though I dont blame violent games, movies, and TV, I do think they add a tiny bit to the overall problem since violence is so common place to see now.  Where parenting and other factors are the major parts of the problem, I think movies and games that glorify criminal activity like Grand Theft Auto and movies like Fast and Furious have some small impact of their own.

good lord... words fail me, but im gonna say stuff anyway. who the hell makes a freaking shotgun so easily accessible to kids?!?!?! (insert rednecks being from knoxville joke). i always have to blame these kind of things on the parents. the way i see it, we are all born "blank" in a sense, either male or female, then our parents/school or just overall life experiences actually shape who we turn out to be. and like what they always say, the younder you are, the more impressionable you are. so i dont think people are born to be killers, just raised that way.

"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good."

John Locke who had a great impression on our government said that a person is neither born good nor bad but society crupts them

that’s some what  true, society only corrupts you if you let it, some kids these days are just beyond stupid. i dont really belive its the parents fault.. well in a sence.. sure, its their fault for giving birth to such an idiot, but blaming the murder of people on a game... thats just idiotic

Long post, but here's what one of the fathers of the shooting victims from Columbine had to say.

    http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/d/darrellscott.htm

Personally... pointing fingers at "Doom", "GTA" *funny how the first TWO GTA's never caught this much attention* and the like is retarded.

Wanna REALLY blow the govt's mind... start a Civil War... then blame it on the Govt. because they READ about it in school in history class. NEVERMIND the fact it wasn't to MAKE students rebel and kill for whatever reason... just blame it on the fact "we LIVE what we LEARN" and stuff that down their throats. EVEN BETTER... blame school shootings on that fact.

But... that probably wouldn't fly... why? Because that's just plain silly for people with a SHRED of common sense.

Let's face it guys and girls, we all know for fact that those types of games aren't murder simulators. I've NEVER seen a MOUSE-OPERATED AK-74, or a car that had a little person pop an arm out and uzi people Remote Controlled with a PS2 controller.

Oh yes...and one more thing. My father was a Hunter Saftey Instructor. I was taught that I should never point a gun, loaded or not, at anything I didn't intend to shoot. Always assume it's loaded, and always check to see if it is loaded. There is a respect one should have when posessing or operating a firearm. Guns are not meant to "heal" people, they are meant to do harm. If these boys did not understand this, then it is the parents fault for not teaching them these morals and common sense about a firearm. If they TRUELY believe that it was ok to take a firearm, with the prior knowledge that it can harm or kill, and use it with the intent to do so... then they are criminals. Plain and simple. If they were deluded somehow that they were re-inacting a video game, then it's neither the producers of the game, nor the parents fault, they need psycological help. They could have easily read a book, seen a movie, or heard a story that depicted any sort of killing, and used it for an excuse.

And really folks, people don't NEED a reason to be insane, deluded, or just plain "evil".

No one accused Hitler of playing too much "Command and Conquer", Jack the Ripper for playing "Bloodrayne", Charles Manson for playing "The Sims", or Jeffery Dahmer for playing "Pac-Man".

Hundreds of thousands of gamers... men and women, boys and girls of different ethnical backgrounds, creeds and beliefs play these games and we're not out playing "Monkey see, Monkey do". We have always had WAR, RAPE, VIOLENCE, and DEATH... long before these games came out or were even thought of, and we always will... until we stop BLAMING others for other peoples ignorance and stop pointing fingers in the wrong direction.

    *steps off soapbox*

I think you are dead-on Misti.  I own and played GTA3 and had a lot of fun.  But you know what?  If I had kids they would not being playing a game like that until they were at least 16-17.  And knowing that they would probably do it eventually anyways, I would make sure that they knew the difference between real life and video games.

No one is raising their children anymore...they are leaving that job up to ABC,NBC,CBS,FX,WB,Nintendo,Sony & Microsoft...Like you said a large part of this is from the total loss of family structure over the past 20-30 years.  If mom & dad don't both work full time you can't afford to get by.  It's a huge mess.

Violent games don't lead to violent behavior in a healthy child.  However, I think applied to a kid that has mental problems and zero parenting I think your odds go way up.  Stopping the violent games is not the answer...you need to create healthier and more stable kids and detect the ones that need mental help.
