[Preview] WildStar: Trying Out the Stalker Class

At last weekend's New York Comic Con, the WildStar team was on hand to show off the game. We managed some hands on time with the Stalker and present our hands on preview. See what we discovered before heading to the comments.

I chose the Draken race for my stalker, mainly because they look cool and use their enhanced melee claws in attacks. I felt like a demonic, futuristic Wolverine.  I did not waste time on character customization because I wanted to get right into the gameplay, but the options seemed typical for most MMOs: different hair, colors of skin, etc.  Nothing earth-shattering about the customization available so far.  To get to playing, I just hit randomize and entered the world. I also chose the Explorer as my Path. The Paths are one of my favorite features about the game and work alongside, but separate from the class system. More on the Explorer later.

    If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

    Warrior class + soldier path next ? Ehmm, why not try something .. interesting ? We've seen a lot of warrior vids already, its pretty much the same old.

    Sounds well polished and all ... but we still have no clue about combat depth (skills interplay, mechanics customization, complexity, etc). Aka the hardcore gamer's drug. For me that's the most important thing in a mmo for it no to become boring after a month (*coughgw2* *cough*).

    The closest you might get is an inv for a weekends stress test.

    I've seen many Pay to Play games that have had open betas. I've been in many of them myself in fact.
