i LOVE perma death...i think it should be in every mmo. Gives the game more realism. But there is just one issue...campers...ppl who have nothign better to do than go out and kill low lvl noobs. Will there be a system that will counter this? Say liek a bounty/wanted system? Where if u kill innocent players you get a bounty on your head or are wanted and cannot enter certain "guarded" city? Just wondering cuz that is a MAJOR flaw in perma death games...

You should check this out. http://trialsofascension.com/guide/ This guide is awesome and provides you with a lot of details about the game.
As for campers - we don't really know how things are going to be because none of us has played the game. However, we do know that there won't be any levels in the game and everyone will be equal. There also won't be any kind of conning where you know someone is a noob, weak, or anything along those lines. There are a lot of good ideas in this game that address these issues so take the tie to read through the features and you will really love this game.
As others have said you will not be able to determine another players relative strength just by mousing over them. What GimiZigi said about everyone being equal isn't quite right... there are skills that you raise, though no levels in the traditional sense. However, the gap between the powerful and the weak will not be as yawning as it is in most games... a "weak" character will be able to harm/kill a stronger one if the strong one isn't being careful or is outnumbered. Also there is a reputation system through which killings that take place within settlement turf are reported and damage the aggressors reputation within that settlement. At a certain point they will be labeled "kill-on-sight" for settlement guards and citizens. There's more detail on this in the guide.
When I first heard about this game I thought like many of you. Perma Death... nuff said there's no way I would ever play that.
To be honest the only reason I listened to the rest was because one of the Devs was telling me about it over dinner. This didn't change my mind in the slightest but the other features did sound interesting so when the first site came out I read more about it and the community of fans coaxed me it would be worth trying out.
Obviously you can tell at this point that I am a bit biased. I was just as biased against perma death and still am for many games. I'm sure not everyone is quite as shallow as I was to judge an entire game on this one thing but from the posts here on mmorpg and elswhere there is certainly more than a few. Not to call anyone shallow but if you havn't checked out the community on the forums you don't have the slightest idea what the game is going to be like. Obviously without playing the game you can't be sure but a multiplayer game is about playing with others so whether talking about perma death or a less contraversial topic the community plays an integral part. If this game is even close to the kind of game you think you would like, not including perma death, you owe it to yourself to learn more about it and the community that currently supports it before completley passing this off as another failure.
Couldn't of said it better myself Eagle. Very awesome!
This sounds like an interesting experiment, but I cannot even begin to imagine how the game will ever be anything other than ultra-ultra-niche.
Let's face it, even marginal games like MO, Xsyon and Wurm Online have their dedicated fans and regular players.
It sounds like a more fleshed-out version of DayZ. It has perma-death and always-on PvP. Even with "100 lives", what will the average player's lifespan be ? 2 or 3 weeks ?
I like the idea of your character being like a book. It will have a beginning, middle and an end. So refreshing.
As for camping, it says you will spawn nearby the body with full health but it sounds like you can choose where. So you can spawn behind a tree or something and be on your merry way. I didn't read anywhere the consequences, if any, there will be in this game for PK's.
It certainly is a niche game but I am pretty sure you won't go through 100 lives in a 2-3 week span. Assuming you play ToA for 8 hours a day, every day for 3 weeks. That's 120 hours of playing. That means you would have to die once every 1.2 hours. I don't know about you but I am pretty sure this isn't going to be the case. But that is what testing is for. Nobody truly knows how long it will take to go through 100 lives until we test and play the game.
Here is a little runddown of how death will be. http://trialsofascension.com/guide/death
