SATA is SATA, they are backwards compatible and it should work fine barring getting a bad part.

As far as bang for the buck - most SSDs are so fast that, while you can measure differences between them using benchmarks, the difference in a 12.04 second and 12.02 second boot time is not terribly meaningful. The warranty is what you really pay for here, and this 3 year warranty isn't the longest in the industry, I think it's long enough and not really worth paying a huge premium to get a longer warranty.

SATA is forward and backward compatible.  If you have a SATA III connecting to a SATA II, they will both perform at SATA II speeds.

You won't get full speed out of your SSD, but that won't matter much.  It will still be MUCH faster than a mechanical drive for booting and gaming.

It should work fine.  The thing I'd worry about most is that given the age of your motherboard, you might have Vista or earlier, and neither Vista nor XP knows what to do with an SSD.  An SSD can be made to work on those older OSes, but may take some tweaking to get the proper performance.
