The Star Citizen team has been hard at work making "commercials" for some of the ships that players will find in the upcoming Star Citizen, a space combat MMO by Chris Roberts. Check out this great look at a formidable ship!
Obviously taking inspiration from the ad for the Baserunner from the game formerly known as Hardware Shipbreakers (which is being mutilated by Gearbox because everything they touch which isn't Borderlands related turns to shit), but that's hardly a bad thing.
Still not sold on the game, but I'll be looking in on it from time to time.
Looks cool. Im not familiar with any ground game in SC. what should we find in the ground game? Another mmo? Or enough to reward the space part of the mmo?
The specs to run this pretty thing will be costly. I expect to see some cool homemade cockpits with a 3 tv set up in someones house. Maybe SC should offer an option for people to buy such a set up?

"We’re pushing the limits with Star Citizen, and this commercial is our best example yet. It’s rendered 100% in-engine in real time at 4k resolution. We scale everything for the super high resolutions that will be the basis of tomorrow’s gaming experience; our assets are designed with high polycounts instead of having details baked into their textures. That’s a big part of why NVIDIA and AMD have been demoing Star Citizen at 4k! The next generation of CPUs and GPUs will make this kind of experience possible in gameplay, and we are building Star Citizen to be ready. With the Hornet commercial, we wanted to give our backers an early look. If you have a 4k-compatible monitor, select “Original” from the video settings on YouTube (or download the 4k file directly here. ) If you don’t, 1080p is highly recommended."
Graphically the videos look very nice, would like to see it in actual gameplay, but then, if you are playing in an instanced world, with a fewer number of players, there is less load, so you can up the quality.
In the article above, Chris says :
The way it works is that the persistent universe server, which we’re calling the Galaxy Server, keeps track of all players’ assets, group relationships and locations inside the Star Citizen universe. As the Galaxy server isn’t handling any realtime action it can handle our complete player base, which right now would be about 45,000 players, but is designed to be able to scale to millions if need be. The other key thing the Galaxy Server does is dynamically place players based on their location, skill level, alignment and player versus player (PvP) preference into battle instances. Think of a “battle” instance like a Battlefield 3 multiplayer session or a World of Tanks Battle with the key difference that the selection of players is done transparently and is “in fiction”.
All sounds ok, just you won't really be roaming the galaxy, and bump into other players, except in the designated area, such as spacestations etc.

In a themepark mmo with instanced pvp, its not much different.
I would rather have a better single player game with mmo aspects such as pvp, crafting, player housing etc.
Better than a watered down single player experience with a lot of pointless quests as with many other mmos, grinding for gear as end game, bad graphics with little effects but take a lot of resources to run because its open world with other players.
To me, the winning formula for an mmo is a single player with a sand box mmo for the online part. People buy the next title for a single player, and i think it makes mmos with this kind of design more in tune with keeping with peoples interests since it continues to push the bounaries to stay interesting whereas an actual mmo is very limited by its release concepts.

Space and GROUND combat MMO, RSI recently confirmed planetary combat and while that may not be the focus of the game, it's in. Which just adds a whole new layer of awesome to this project, imo.
And yes, it is a true MMO, the off line bit was so you can solo Squadron 42 as it is single player campaign. The rest of the game, PvP, economy, etc will all be done with your fellow humans.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

... Then again, this is not such a good commercial for the Space Beamer
For me, this game is bitter sweet. I've been waiting for a Privateer style MMO forever. However, I'm really only interested in MMO game play, thus the reason I lurk on websites like mmorpg.com. From what the community is indicating, it doesnt sound like this is an mmo at all in the conventional sense.

Help us, Obi Wan Chris Roberts, you're our only hope.. <looks around before rushing off>
<repeat message>
.....
You let me fly a ship in space like that...
Where I can use a Rift or something similar to look around my cockpit like shown...
And allow me to transition from space flight to planetary atmosphere travel seamlessly....
And...you sir...may just have to take my money...

Not bad at all if you consider:

Holy Macaroni, shit just got real
pants->wet
This game is full of hope.I had enough of all those console games ported to pc.
Robert if you deliver we are with you.
Only downside is that it's not a true MMO.
Rather an instanced game like the original Guildwars 1 is.
It even has offline gameplay.
And according to the wiki you can have your own private server : http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Frequently_Asked_Questions
This is according to Chris Roberts himself : https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/12770-Chris-Roberts-On-Multiplayer-Single-Player-And-Instancing
