Star Citizen: Goodbye. (What is your story?) [trailer]

Hey everyone,

I made a new video for star citizen, i tried to give it some emotional value as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwP2_pCOrs8

don't know if that worked, either way i learned a lot from making this so that's awesome!

Congratulations star citizen, kind of a sad way to celebrate i guess =P

but i am really excited/super happy. (no emo... just bad timing)

I hope you like it,

damaged during battle... this ship was carrying cargo for a big cooperation who doesn't give a damn about the safety of it's crew, if the goods can't be saved then don't bother saving the people that are supposed to make the delivery, they are as good as dead anyways.

Not bad, not bad. I did empathize with that lonely dying guy. I hope the game self will have moments like this one.

I liked the video - when I suspend disbelief.

But the video falls apart from a logical perspective (as do most SciFi concepts)

    1. Crew - why? That spacecraft looked VERY advanced, looking by that tech - advanced robots would be most likey the pilots. It makes no sense to have advanced technology only in one area, technology advances all fields together. That rich corporation would not rely on humans 1.0.

    2. Humans would be evolved by the tech as well - this is where most SciFi fails badly - it shows humans as they are today (humans 1.0), instead of genetically and cybernetically enhanced via nanotech (post-humans/trans-humans humans 2.0 or 3.0 - whatever you want to call technologically evolved humans)

Bottom line - advanced technology evolves all fields - medicine, robotics, genetics, nanotech, etc.... you can't have super advanced spaceships and same old humans.

Threadbare excuse to 1)   Excuse a:  humanity is recovering from a war with advanced robotics ( terminator matrix BSG) advanced robotic tech is still untrusted

Excuse b:  fianancing man. Manual piloting controls allows me to fianance my private craft 100 million credits cheaper

Excuse c:  piolet has a strong DIY ethos

threadbareexcuses to 2: excuse a : he is augmented it is just technology has advanced sufficiently that you cannot easily tell

                                            Excuse b: see excuse 1a

Excuse c: flip side of excuse 1b.  He cannot afford the Augs

No matter how cynical you become, its never enough to keep up - Lily Tomlin

Ever read the Dune series from Herbert? ( I surely hope you did, it's what every SF fan should know about ) It's an SF where robotic and AI tech are mistrusted. The difficult tasks are left to 'humans' with advanced mental and physical abilities through a drug called spice. Most of them look no different from humans 1.0 but are 3.0 or beyond. Forced evolution, mental conditioning or super training, if you will.

Star Cititizen probably does not have 'evolved' or mentally trained humans in it though, which is a shame. But maybe they have humans like v1.2 with all technical help HUDs, 'Internet' and lesser robotic systems that are not body-invasive like cybernetics? Or humans trained from birth ( or cloned ) with imprinted instructions/training. People are very resourceful and do not design stuff that is unworkable. Maybe not everyone can operate all that stuff in the cockpit, but a trained pilot would. Not that different nowadays. Maybe that's why not many people are astronauts....

Robots are in a different league all together, besides it wouldn't be fun if robots ran everything. Why bother with robots if you can have ships with only computers/ai onboard, that would save space and would be way more efficient...

But I agree, that if they do not care to make a good story/universe, it probably would be best to consider this Science Fantasy ( like starwars ) and not Science Fiction ( is there any true Science fiction anymore? ).

Based on what i've seen it's space fantasy as there are no smoke/fire clouds or impressive visuals in space. And maybe that's for the best, because it simply is the most fun.

Based on your opinions of course. Why do you suppose there are so many different sub-genre's of Sci-fi? Because people imagine it in different way's. There is no one set rule on how to write or imagine sci-fi, that would go against the entire idea of 'imagination'. You are free and encouraged to express your opinions, but please do not try to force your rules on others.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
