Considering getting ths game.

Ok, Im just bored as HELL and LF a new MMORPG. I've been playing WoW for 6 months and have a 60 mage, lvl 10 palidin, lvl 9 druid, and soem other alts. I've been boredwith WoW latly and considering this MMORPG.

I might make a WHM. I have a few questions before i get this game tho.
Since this game is NOT soloable and 99% of time ur in a group would a WHM be quite a fast lvler since It can find groups easier?

I have a question about Sub jobs(since in WoW there is None). we ONLY get a sub job at lvl 30 right? and lets say I make my WHM and at 30 i get...umm Ranger(just a example) would i then be able to heal AND shoot arrows and crap? and also whats the best subjob(s) for a WHM?

I have head being a Taru WHM is the best since it gets more MP or w/e. Does race really make a big differance? In Wow it didnt really matter what race you were it just mattered how good u were. I dont wanna play a taru WHM i wanna be a Hume WHM are they still pretty good?

Is healing as a WHM hard?

Can every race be every class? Like a Galka WHM? Just wondering ! TY IN ADVANCE!!!!!

::::40:: Hell

PS. this is the 3rd topic ive made of this..I guess it says ive made 3 posts But ya i never thought i actully posted that never showed up ::::22::

Probably so. But while WHM levels quickly, the absolute fastest leveller is probably Bard (which is an advanced job, see below), followed by Red Mage. But I would advise against thinking about in those terms. In FFXI, IMHO, the journey is at least as interesting as the destination. You do yourself no favors treating it as a sprint to 75. You'll be much better choosing a job you enjoy playing. Fortunately, it's easy for a character to switch jobs, so you're free to hunt around and find what you enjoy.

I have a question about Sub jobs(since in WoW there is None). we ONLY get a sub job at lvl 30 right?

No, you're thinking of advanced jobs. You start out with access only to the six basic job classes. You get the right to change your job to one of the nine advanced jobs by reaching thirty and completing the quest for that job. You get the right to have a subjob by completing a quest that becomes available at 18. Any job can be a main job or a subjob--and the job you choose as your subjob will have to switched to be your main job in order to level it. Subjobs earn no experience for the job class you set it to, only your main job earns exp.

and lets say I make my WHM and at 30 i get...umm Ranger(just a example) would i then be able to heal AND shoot arrows and crap?

Well, no, because you can only equip equipment that's legal for your main job. WHM can't equip bow and arrow, so you can't shoot arrows even if you *are* subjob RNG. You'd be able to use RNG's job abilities--you can Scavenge, you have Widescan, you gain accuracy bonuses for melee and ranged, you can use Sharpshot (to, uh, make throwing Pebbles more accurate, since WHM can't equip much else in the way of ranged attack).

and also whats the best subjob(s) for a WHM?

In parties, almost exclusively Black Mage or Summoner, to give you more MPs for your heals. For solo work (farming and the like), you might like a WAR or MNK subjob to give you some STR and improve your woeful melee capabilities, or THF for Treasure Hunter, to improve your drops (THF is a popular subjob for farming for *any* class).

I have head being a Taru WHM is the best since it gets more MP or w/e.

Yes, it works fairly well. So does Elvaan, as they have good MND, which improves the potency of their white magic, making up for the relatively few MP. Hume and Mithra, as ever being the "balanced races", provide a nice balance between MP and MND.

Does race really make a big differance? In Wow it didnt really matter what race you were it just mattered how good u were. I dont wanna play a taru WHM i wanna be a Hume WHM are they still pretty good?

With correct equipment and good play, you can do just about anything with any given race. A Hume WHM would work out just fine.

Is healing as a WHM hard?

It can be tricky at times. You have to pace your cures so you don't rip hate from the tank--in FFXI healing gets you an amazing amount of hate. You get status cures, which you can't neglect getting, and need to use when your party members get debuffed. You get buffs to protect against elements and status effects that you need to know how to use--keep Barwatera up when you're fighting Pugils so your tank doesn't get owned by Screwdriver, keep Barfira up when fighting Goblins so the whole group doesn't get owned by Goblin bomb, keep Barpoisonra up when fighting Lizards so that the Lizards poison doesn't hit as hard (although you do also have Poisoina to remove it), etc, etc... (far, far too many WHMs neglect their spell lists and don't have the status cures and bar-spells their party needs--don't be one of them!). Also you get a fairly nice selection of White Magic enfeebling magic to lay on the mob. While enfeebling is usually a Red Mage specialty, you may be asked to take the responsibility of hanging some of the debuffs on the mob you're fighting, depending on the circumstances. You even get some damage spells (Banish, Holy) which are generally inferior but rock against undead.

Can every race be every class? Like a Galka WHM? Just wondering ! TY IN ADVANCE!!!!!

Yes, unlike WoW, every race (and, indeed, every character) can play every job.

They don't handle accounts, they deleter them after 3 months.

SquareEnix can't handle the online criterias.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by some of this, although I'm sorry you couldn't play. What was your difficulty? While I had to sit through some pretty long updates the first time I fired it up, FFXI has rarely given me much difficulty in running it. Also, the deletion of inactive accounts (by which I mean accounts that aren't being paid for) no longer happens at three months; inactive accounts are now given a year before they are deleted.

TyHehe i guess it wasnt just one quick question ::::34::

The last count I saw, which is now some months back, I admit, put the subscriber level at about 650,000. You won't be alone :-).

I really don't know what the highest-pop server is. There's some difference, but not a huge one, as the limited ability to choose your world helps SE keep things balanced.

My understanding is that, yes, you can try recreating your first character over and over again to try to get on the server you want. I haven't tried this myself. In any case, it needs to be your first character; once you have one, subsequent characters will be created on the same server as the first every time (unless you use a Worldpass).

    There are 32 servers.

At lower levels, WHM is probably the most in-demand job. At 41, RDM gets Refresh, which almost immediately puts him pretty much at the top of the charts. Bard is also heavily in demand, but that's throttled somewhat by the fact that Bards are *so* rare that even some high-level people have never partied with one, and don't understand what a good Bard can do for a group.

Sorry for all the questions But...still a little curious about subjobs/advanced jobs. I heard that dark knights suc at being subed with anything...But dark knight is a lvl 30 advanced Job. so you can switch artound? ;Like if im a monk and do lvl 30 dark knight quest i can make my dak knight the main character?

and also on lvling so if my main job is a monk lvl 30 and I JUST get dark knight advanced Job my dark knigth doenst lvl up unless i make him my main job? hehe jsut a lil confused

You can change to any job/subjob whenever u feel like it. That means ur character can be anything. If u do the Dark Knight quest when u hit lvl 30 with Monk u will have the ability to go to ur Mog House and change to Dark Knight. If u don't want to lvl Dark Knight u simply don't switch jobs. And,yes,Dark Knight won't lvl until u switch jobs and go lvl with that. Think of each job as an individual thing. When I switched from Warrior to Monk my HP went back to that of a lvl 1 Monk and all my stats the same. The only thing that reamained the same were my combat skills. Hope I answered ur questions...

PS. My server Ramuh is very populated. If u r interested in joining it PM me so I can give u a World Pass to join my server. ::::31::

I think you're still a little confused--advanced jobs and subjobs are two different subjects. In fact, most of the advanced jobs generally make poor subjobs. Someone with a Bard subjob can't use any instruments with his songs because all the instruments can be equipped only by a Bard, for example. A dragoon subjob can't summon the dragoon's wyvern.

Let's start from the beginning. In the beginning you have access to the six basic jobs (WAR, MNK, THF, WHM, BLM, RDM). Anytime you are in your Mog House (the player housing) you can choose "Change Job" from the Mog House Menu. You then get a dialog with a "Main Job" button and a grayed-out "Support Job" button. Choosing "Main Job" brings up a selection of 15 buttons. The first six have the six basic jobs on them, and the rest have ??? and can't be selected. Selecting one of the six basic jobs changes you over to that job. If you've never used that job before, you'll be level 1 with 0 exp. If you have used the job before you'll be at whatever level & exp you left off at when switched out of that job. You can switch jobs as often as you like without penalty; you just have to be in your Mog House to do it. (Well, or in a Rent-a-Room or at a Nomad Moogle, but let's not complicate things...)

At 18 you can get a quest to get your Support Job (subjob). Once you complete it and you go back to your Mog House, the "Support Job" button will no longer be grayed out. Selecting that button will bring up the same set of job buttons that the "Main Job" button does. Your current Main Job will grayed out. You can select any of the other five jobs as your subjob. Your subjob gives you stat boosts based on its level and job type, and you gain access to the skills, abilities and spells of the subjob (the abilities are subject to a few miscellaneous restrictions), but not its equipment. Your subjob is whatever level you levelled that job to, subject to a cap of one-half your main job's level (rounded down). It gets no exp; to level that job, you'll have to make it your main job and go out and level that way. Note that it is considered bad form not to have your subjob at the one-half your main job cap, as that makes the subjob less powerful, gimping your character. You can switch your subjob in your Mog House whenever you want, just like your main job. The only restriction is that your main job and subjob can't be the same job.

At 30, you can get your advanced jobs (RND, BRD, PLD, DRK, BST, SMN, SAM, NIN, DRG). When you complete the flag quest for an advanced job, one of the ???s in the job list in the Mog House dialog will turn into that job. You can now select that job. It functions just like the basic jobs; the only difference between an advanced job and a basic job is that the advanced job required you to do a level 30 quest to unlock it.

What i love about this game is there is always something to do. In WoW it feels like all you ever do is just kill stuff. Here when you kill stuff its with a party so at least your not alone. Plus you cant just kill things for money, you have to earn it. You do this with different professions and such, and you sell stuff on the AH when the time is right so that you get good money for it ^^. I play both, but i find myself only playing FFXI
