Almost total freedom to build the character and world you want.
Every skill is open to train, make what you want. There's a soft cap, but the cap doesn't stop you from continuing getting the skills, it just slows you down.
It's PvP so that'll turn off some, but it's my kind of PvP. Pretty free and open, no safe places and looting it total.
Their curb to griefing is a faction system, which is perfect in my opinion. It's just enough to encourage grouping in your faction.
It's been a while in development. I wasn't ready to fall into the craze because of the time but now they're nearing Beta and are starting in a pretty cool way by inviting guilds as the first beta testers.

it seems promesing but...first person mmorpg's just aren't my taste.

Oh, now I get you. That wasn't supposed to get leaked out. It wasn't official, there's a blurb in that same section that talks about their testing for first person and third.
At least the default view for combat is third person. I think you can go to 1st person if you sheath your weapon and go into a town or village, but combat is most definitely 3rd.

Double post.

No, it definitely hasn't been cancelled. They just finished a round of accepting clans into closed beta testing. They're taking applications for singles after they settle out some clan issues.
Definitely fighting in 3rd person. You build houses, towns and fortresses and hire NPCs to guard and run things.
There's boat combat with ballistae and catapults that you can shoot at other boats or toward land bases. You can actually aim at the mast of a ship to try and disable it.
There's just a ton of stuff in this game that I always wanted and it looks like it's heating up in development now.

It looks good on paper, like many mmorpgs, yet the reality has been harsh for 99% of them.
99% of mmorpgs that has looked good on paper or in screenshots, has been pure crap.
thats why I wont read hype or believe the screenshots untill I get to test it myself.
Agree with Kishe.. Don't get my hopes up!! :P
But yeah sounds interesting from what has been posted.. I'll have to go checkout the website
DF is the mmo im looking forward to the most.
not item based, skill based.... full loot.... total freedom.
btw combat/gameplay is in first person for everything except melee. and dont try to argue it, its true. been following the game forever now lol.

He's right, everything is suppose to be first person, but it switches to third person for melee combat. So it has a mix of FPS for range and regular mmorpg melee feel for fighting up close.
This game looks so great, hopefully it comes out as good as it's suppose to.
Finally, no stupid floating name tags that make you stick out when you try to hide in bushes or behind a tree. Now you have to actually pay attention when looking for enemies
Melee Combat is in Third Person.
Magic and Archery is in First person.
There is no Auto Combat. AT ALL. you must actually press some buttons to attack, cast spells, shoot arrows and use special combo attacks.
There are Full Collisions, Full Looting, and Full PVP system in place with an Alignment system where if Someone kills/attacks/ninja-loots you or your friends, you can freely kill them without an alignment hit. But only for a certain ammount of time. If the bad person keeps doing evil things he will rack up serious evilpoints and might take him days or weeks to get rid of his negative alignment.
There will be Consequences for your actions. If you become evil to your own racial alliance you basicall screwyourself over.
Yes, I agree. After Settlers of Ganareth, my eyes were opened wide to the truth behind Dark and Light. For years the game looked so good, but now after seeing the latest version of the game in SoG, its far from what it was originally supposed to be. It isn't finished, but 4+ years of development should have shown more.
So I can read it all on the Darkfall sight and even see some screens and movies, I won't believe it until I play. At least SoG is free and players can see the poor condition of the game before they spend their money on DnL. I hope I can test Darkfall before I have to purchase it. I learn from my mistakes.
I'd say the most promising thing about Darkfall now, aside from all its cool game features, is the way the devs are handling things so far. It is always a good sign when they can communicate with the players.
looks like one I am going to have to watch out for now as well. Looks quite promising.
I have guildies in the beta...
They are letting established guilds into the beta slowly, its kinda a cool idea.
Its not dead, ill tell you that much, but it is earlyish in development.
I cant say anything personally, cause well, ive never actually played it yet... and when I get to (some time in january I belive the second batch gets in) I wont be able to say much due to the NDA... but yea.
Its not dead, I know that much for a fact, and from what ive heard, its actually fun.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
Found out something new, reguarding the views.
Melee Combat is in Third Person.
Magic and Archery is in First person.
It switches views based on what weapon you have wielded. So the second you wield a Sword you do go into Third person View, and when you put it away or wield a Bow or Mages staff, you go into first person mode. I think this will help balance out Mages so that they Must have skill to be good not just button pushing abilities.
Following the progress of the game myself and if they can get it out the door, looks promising.
Just a thought: about the 10th time I get ganked 5v1, 8v1, 12v1 and get looted and lose all my stuff, wonder if the thrill will wear off.
Yeah, yeah, I know what you're going to say.

Well, I won't be saying it.
It's lousy to get taken unfairly.
Anyone who's played hardcore PvP with freestyle loot will tell you that the community is very tightly knit. If you play you'll make friends and alliances. They'll help you and you'll help them, or they might not help you.
For some people it's all about the cheap kill but those things aren't all that common as people make out. Given a good group of friends, which are much easier to find because of the need.
Fun times for all, once people get past the part about winning and losing. In PvP it's more who stubbornly keeps trying than a one time fight.

Your mind is like a parachute, it's only useful when it's open.
Don't forget, you can use the block function on trolls.
