Considering coming back to AC, looking for advice.

I played AC from 2000-2004, it was my first MMORPG, and for so long I was completely addicted to the game. I thought it was the greatest thing ever, I spent almost all my time playing it. However, in 2004 I just slowly lost interest and eventually stopped playing. I never made the conscious decision to quit, I just played less and less until I found myself no longer playing.
I have since played CoH and WoW, with limited enjoyment. The games are fun for a while, but then they just lose all their appeal to me. I constantly find myself longing to re-experience the enjoyment I got out of AC.
When I left AC, the main problem was the bots. They had pretty much fixed the combat macro problem, but that never really affected me. The trade bots however made the game feel as though I were just playing a single player game, interacting with only computers.
I realize that with a pretty sparse number of subscribers to this game, the community will never really be like it was, but is it at least to the point where there are people, just willing to talk or help you? Has the game gotten better or worse since early to mid 2004?

seeking advice too: I am also looking to get back into AC and I would like to know if it's worth it. Are there still Allegiances around with lots of active members? Are the markets full with traders? What server has the most population?
I also left early 2004 after playing for 3yrs. or so. Thats when mmorpgs started booming. However none in my opinion are better than AC.

Here's my take on the current situation. I cancelled my account again recently, but I feel kind of bad for doing so. There was really nothing wrong with the game this time around.
The community is -amazing-. I got into a good guild, and they just gave me things, money, buffs.. offered to help me level. It was awesome. People are a lot nicer than they were before (which still was pretty damn nice back in the day).
As far as botting, well tradebots are still around, though not as many as before.. if you want some good trading, just sign up to the Vault Network boards and post on your server's boards. Lots of people use them, and it's a good place to trade and get to know people out of the game.
As for population.. well, it's a bit limited. I feel that as soon as they start merging the servers, perhaps in groups of 3, the game will be amazing once again. If you play at peak hours, it will be a blast again. If you play at off hours, you may have a hard time finding big groups of people.. they will be scarce.
My advice is to just try it out. Try the different servers to find a good group of people you like, and stick with them. The people you play with make all the difference in AC.
Yeah, I'm permabanned from VN, but I tried to make a new account to ask for help returning to the game. Anyways, I made the post on the General boards, and then was banned and my post was deleted.
It seems like even if I wasn't allowed to be at the boards, my post could've at least stayed for me to read.
