11 Year old child's opinion of NGE

Stopped off at my brothers house tonight to drop off some Christmas gifts. I grabbed a beer and plopped myself on my bro's couch. My Nephew was playing a game on his lap top next to me. I asked him if he was still playing SWG. He said, "Um.. no, that game is really boring now." I told him I quit last month he said "Yea, I seen that you were'nt online anymore." I asked him why he thought the new SWG was boring he said, "Well I thought it would be fun to play as a jedi, but it was'nt... the game is just.. boring.

Mind you, I have'nt seen my nephew since Thanksgiving and at that time I told him to give the NGE a try. He started playing SWG with me and my Brother since launch and has played everyday even after my brother quit in 2003 because of RL time issues.

Pity that the NGE cannot even entertain an avid 11 year old gamer, I thought that was the market they were going for.

Yeah that market is pretty much closed, after reading all the other 11 year old children's opinions in the SWG forums.

I guess then SOE's only target audience now is just suck-up-brain-dead fanbois!

Ohhh  myyy!!!!  I think a red name just posted on the forums!  Run Wepps, run!  You don't want to end up on the second page do you?!

SOE knows what you like... You don't!

Aye, seeing something like that closer to home.

My youngest around that age and for the past year has been "I can't wait till I'm old enough to play Galaxies..." back in the summer I'd created a toon for him and he'd levelled the wee guy up pretty well, just running round bashing gnorts and trying to stay out of trouble. He did a bit of crafting but didn't like it that much as he was low level and could only make a few things. Liked it when he sold it on the bazaar tho.

He did a bit of BH as that got him some credits and jsut before the NGE I went out and levelled the toon like mad so he'd have something 'decent' to respec with.

So last week we respec'd the toon to jedi as he thought that'd be fun. He played for about an hour that night before going off to play Black And White. Next night after school I gave him the chance to go back ingame, maybe do the Legacy quests? After getting sent out to kill the same random thugs for the same random reason for about the 4th time he asked if he could log out and go play B&W again.

He's not asked to get back ingame since as he found jedi wasn't anywhere near as 'fun' as he'd hoped. I've told him he can respec to spy or commando or whatever, but he's like "nah, s'alright" and off he goes to practise being a junior psycho on his XBox.

If SWG was a horse and already dead, SOE would still beat on it.  Just goes to show that when the corporate fatheads get control of any game, it becomes more about how they think they can make more money vs. caring about the customer base.

    It just dawned on me....

My 8 year old son has mastered Homeworld II ...and it's WAY more complex than NGE is.

multiple research tiers to get to more advanced ships....fleet strategy movements...and full on strategic space combat....

He used to sit beside me while I played SWG....I could leave my toon and he's "cover for me" while I was afk....he knew how to travel, check XP levels...everything...he just can't read fast enough to keep up with the chat....

He used to want to play with me....now he saw me quit one day after noticing the game was different....He already forgot what SWG icon on my desktop looked like....cause he's stuck on more difficult games....

SOE, ......sigh.......they just don't deserve my energy anymore.

I got a call last December from a close friends son who was 15 at the time. He knew I played SWG and wanted some tips on how to get going in the game after he got it for Christmas.

He spent the next year playing to become a Jedi. I got random calls about his progress and sometimes helped him in-game when I could. He was having a great time and loved the effort it took to become a Jedi. He unlocked his Jedi in August this year and was so excited by the accomplishment that he called me at 2am the Saturday night he unlocked.

I saw him last week at a Christmas party and I asked him how he enjoyed the new SWG. He said "I don't play it anymore, its a kids game now"..

    LOL

Don't worry about him not keeping up with chat, my 33 year old roommate couldn't either in EQ. He couldn't spell either! The 15 year old stepson can sorta play WoW badly, very badly. He can easily play SWG but is now bored to tears with it too.

I’m sticking with my original position of SWG now being geared to the four to six year old bracket.

You used an eight year old kid to AFK???? There's a word for people like you..... genius! (Am now searching eBay for a small child to install in the basement as my afk/backup droid... )

"he knew how to travel, check XP levels...everything...he just can't read fast enough to keep up with the chat...."

Which is probably just as well... just imagine how 'cute' it'd be for him to cuddle granma at Sunday lunch then call her a stealkillin' newb SoaB... ;)

(For the sarcasm-challenged, I'm not REALLY looking for a small child on eBay, m'kai? OTOH 18yo blonde bimbette/cheerleader with bad eyesight and low morals... :)) )

Now if only the people who type like 11-year olds would quit.

I don't have any problem with eleven year olds playing. Most people here make the assumption that if people are young, then they are immature and stupid.

That same conjecture can describe over 50% of the adults I've ever met.

I have to agree and I'm 38 but I think your % is a little low since at least 75% of the adults I've ever met were immature, we will give you some more time to meet some more (assuming your young that is :P).

    Seventeen.

Funny thing is, when I started the game, I fell into the category everyone classifies as the "kid player junkies" who brought about this whack a mole version of SWG.

I played as an Armorsmith the whole time, mastering one of the hardest professions, then becoming the best on my server.

Moral of the story: Young people aren't as stupid as they are made out to be here, and SOE is retarded.

    Cheers everyone.  image

I haven't played since the NGE went live, so yes I'm still an armorsmith, not a damn trader or anything. image

I had an alt account that I used for an armorsmith. I must admit I had more fun playing that toon than my Jedi (well not more fun, but a different kind of fun). I enjoyed hunting for good resources and experimenting with them. Never reached my goal of making a complete 35-42% resist stun suit of Comp armor with low encumbrance. Came close but then the CU came out and it did'nt really matter, So I gave up.

Sigh... oh well, armorsmith was definately a fun and rewarding occupation while it lasted.

edited cause I said 55-62% resist... oops!

I have no problem at all with the age of anyone that wants to play SWG.

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It’s the maturity level of the game that I have a problem with.
