You can now Pre-order D&D Online. Get an in-game item, and access before anyone else.

ROFL. So soon after DnL Pioneer accounts, I think most people will be very leary of this... or they should be anyway!

First off, D&D has name recognition.  It's been around since the early 80's (remember the kids playing it in ET? lol)  It's a household name.  Unlike DNL, which is not nor ever will be.  That = trust.

Secondly, while D&D is still beta testing ATM, they don't have the degree of secrecy that was veiled around DNL for years in advance.

And lastly, you can preorder a BOX version of the game from several stores.  It only says EB games in the blurb, but you can actually preorder from EBgames, amazon.com, CompUSA, and Gamestop.  Those 4 companies hold alot more weight than Farlan trying to unload a crappy product via a crappy PayPal wannabe over BitTorrent.

I personally never pre-order anything, but, if you are a huge D&D fan, I think you would be safe to pre-order this title.

like the poster above me said, the two cant be compared. DnL reeked scam from miles while D&D is released by a respectable company and again, you are getting the actual GAME and not some vague promise of a game that MIGHT come sometime in the future.

SOme of us have waited for the DDO pre-buy :) I for one have played PnP D&D for quite some time. As the above poster stated , they have a franchise that is built on experience and has a good name. I was excited about DnL till SoG hit. Sog is supposed to be a spinoff of DnL and a completed spinoff at that ny the staffs own wording.  If that bug ridden unstable, Cant stay logged in if I'm lucky enough to get in for more than 10 minutes, is a spin off and completed; Then they need to scrub and start over. No I didnt order the pre because judgement taught me to think about the facts. I Beta tested WoW and GW and several other games as well. My opinion (which is just that mine) Is that Sog barely holds the status of Alpha let alone a release ready spinoff of another game. DDO on the other hand I have had the oppertunity to play on a few occasions. For a Beta version it is more polished and ready than SoG ever will be.

Bashers and Flamers have fun, as Im certain that I will get both :) No biggy as this is my opinion and I'm merely stating from my perspective and my wifes. We have already ordered DDO as we know it will be what they are trying to make it. DnL? Well I wont hold my breath; I like breathing to much.

If you are a fan of D&D pen and paper, do not order this game. You will be so irritated it's not even funny.

D&D should be about careful planning and group execution. Not a mach 3 dungeon rape.

I know nothing of D&DO, so perhaps my words were premature as the above poster pointed out.

I guess what I really meant to say is in comparison to DnL's pre-order, D&D pre-order should be relatively safe.  Now, if it doesn't stand up to D&D aficianado's (spelling?) standards then that's the developers problem.  The fact is it works which is more than you can say for either SoG or DnL at this point.

The company making DDO has a track record in MMORPs, its not great but its reliable as the game will work.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Unlike NPCube, Turbine has actually put out hit games before. Asheron's Call was a success (regardless of people who think population in a game means success.. they made a huge profit off of the game)

My point was, coming so soon after the debacle that was SoG/DnL preorder, someone in marketing might have waited a few weeks.

A lot of us are now very leary of MMORPG preorders.

Many succesful games have launched with preorders such as what DDO and DnL are doing.

City of Heroes allowed you to preorder in advance and promised a special costume piece and preaccess to the game (like a 3 day headstart).

Many games offered guarenteed release into the beta before the game started.

I don't see why allowing people to preorder the game relates DDO to DnL specifically in any way....but maybe I don't see your point?

If its a timing issue I don't see why...they are two seperate games. If people really will be afraid to preorder DDO because a week earlier people found out DnL was a "scam" then that is their problem...they are two completely different games and should be treated as such.

Get your facts straight, son ... I rolled my 1st D&D character in 1977 & it was already out for years. AD&D, the 2nd edition, came out in the early '80s if I remember correctly, after some sort of legal pissing match between the 2 guys who developed the game .. which was in the early '70s.
