Roma Victor needs work

joejccva71joejccva71 Member UncommonPosts: 848

The game has great potential, but needs ALOT of work still. Hats off to Redbelam for their hard work creating RV and all of the functionality they want to put in the game. However, from what I've read and heard...it's almost TOO realistic with every little nick and crany with the mechanics of the game. It will attract a much more mature playerbase which is good and bad. Of course this is just an opinion, but while MMORPG's seem to have alot of players that are between the ages of 25-50 years of age...I think Redbehlam needs to consider also for the younger players who probably become truely bored and/or frustrated with the "nick picking" of every skill, function, movement in RV. It's almost too tedious to do anything in it. This game sure isn't for everyone I can tell you that. hehe

I think Redbehlam is a great company and they have great ideas and they are going in a great direction, but I think they need to tone the "tedious gameplay" down a little bit so in the end it will be more fun. It's one thing to have tons of skills including the skill based system instead of level based system...it's one thing to have realistic combat fighting where you can hurt someone's arm so they can't use it and have to fight with their other arm...it's one thing to have a great crafting system in the game.....however...it's a whole different story when you need to take the tedious time to create a tool to be able to chop down trees or something, then cut the wood, then make a spear tip and have some kind of material to attach the spear tip onto the wooden pole that you created. It's just too much in my opinion. Too tedious. People will end up getting bored after a while I believe.

Of course, again it's only my opinion.

Thanks for listening.

I kinda like having to do stuff the hard way, in the end u will learn how to use all your advantages and knowledge to the best abilities because u refined them through tedious disipline. Some players will hate this and I cant blame them but this is a historical mmo and doing anything in ancient Rome was probably not easy. I hope its more complex then pre-cu SWG in the aspect of crafting and economy, all the combat and it will make for a unique mmo.

No single person will be able to accomplish everything by themself, although you're thinking mainly about solo players finding the game hard to play it seems. In the above case you mentioned about making a spear, it would probably involve a lumberjack, a carpenter and a blacksmith for example. Someone might be a lumberjack and a carpenter simultaneously, but due to the skills system if a player takes up too many trades, they won't have enough time to master them all, and if they ignore a skill, it will become worse over time.

Thanks for the feedback, however this is the wrong place to post it.  With the NDA still in effect people have been asked to keep things under their hats.  We encourage all types of feedback, yes even negative (so long as it's constructive like your posts above).  However, all test discussion is to take place in the Private RV Commercial Test forums.  After the NDA is lifted, you're more than welcome to post any reviews about the test you desire.

    I'm sure you guys understand.

this is what I have been trying to say since i joined these forums.

ROMA VICTOR IS A REALISTIC HISTORICAL RECREATION OF LIFE IN 180AD ROMAN EMPIRE. IT IS NOT EQ NOR IS IT FOR THE MAJORITY OF MMORPG PLAYERS. IF YOU LIKE EQ YOU WILL NOT LIKE THIS GAME.

there, that was only time 287573

Don't mind Ferox, he wants to live in Roman Times.  What Felox doesn't understand is that in Roman times wasn't all fun and glory.  It seems that way to us, but we didn't live there.  That's why when you make a game about history it still needs to remain a game - and has to be fun.  I'd prefer not to live as a slave, doing tedious things in a game all day.

Of course I don't think RB will have too many problems with money when they got people like ferox around who can sustain themselves with mindless gameplay in order to get high on roman life.  You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm sure RB would like to make another game down the road... so it's best you keep giving your opinion and ignoring Ferox :)

Dude that was so cruel. RB is not trying to make the game completely realistic and they are not trying to hog money. Your right about it not being fun back then (at least i think, WERE YOU THERE?NO, was I? NO!!!) For all we know it could have been an awsome time to live for some people and those are the people we will try to be. Do you think that virtual fighting isnt fun? What do you think is fun? I hate it when people like you insult people like that. Anyways, your post hasnt really helped anyone, its only hurt people. AND im gonna stop now before I start sayin more

Eh I guess you don't know Ferox.  Ferox is the type of person who never posts anything negative or criticizing anything he believe sto be awesomeness.  He's a big fan of roman times, and he loves the RB team a lot.  I've never seen him post anything negative about the game.   Plain and simple.

He's also the type that like to come here and post completely pointless comments like he did to those who DO give constructive criticism.

He also seems to think that he has the say in WHEN a topic should be stopped being discussed.  He'll basically tell you he's tired of seeing this topic so should you should stop talking because he doesn't like where you're going with your posts.

I don't like him, and I give him a taste of his own medicine that's all.

Besides, what I said wasn't THAT harsh.  I'd say it's fair play compaired to the things he likes to write to others/me.

Ferox is one of those fan boys that you know is going to be there when the game launchs so there's no need to try to please him because he's already happy.  The guy above needs pleasing, he has a standard for how a game should be.  It's people like the above guy who move games foreward, and should NOT be discouraged of their opinions.

After all we evolve through ideas and if people are taught not to express them then we'll simply stop moving foreward with ideas... I'd prefer that people voiced their opinion no matter how bad it may be, as long as it's constructive and not degrading the person posting it.  Since he likes to degrade, I will simply degrade him.

Once he stops, I will stop attacking him.

Has RB given Ferox a reason to not like them?  Ferox wrote some negative but, constructive statements in his review of the game.  Let's not forget that Ferox is in testing(obviosly since he wrote a review) so maybe he is satisfied with the current state.  Perhaps they have improved upon the trouble spots he stated in his review.

First lets point out that the NDA hasnt been lifted, people who supply you with information might be lying or making it up. IF they are not then they are breaking their agreement. Who is to say that it will take hours to create a spear and 4 different people?

EQ was a good game when it came out, however MMORPG community has grown and matured. Games that all follow the same pattern will find that they are dividing the same customers. Why not target a new group? It might not be as large as the 12 year olds who spend 12 hours a day leveling and those who have the attention span of someone with ADD, however if you take in the fact that many games out there today are very similar this rather large group has to divide itself so much that its simply not worth following the same old formula.

Ferox doesnt seem to be putting down this game or really anyone, why flame him?

I dont think they made this game too realistic to the point that its not fun. If it was going by total realism i dont think its very likely that a slave can escape to become a general or whatnot. And btw we do know a lot of what it was like during the time period. Romans were great historians for one thing and if you think no one can know what that time was like ( im sure it wasnt awesome ) just think about what they didnt have that we take for granted. If you are interested to know more maybe you should take some lecture courses or something to find out how 'awesome' it really was.

Of course slaves couldn't escape and become generals.  Spartacus and his rebellion never happened.  The Roman governement is lying about it!

Hate to break it to you but leading a failed rebellion of a few slaves, that is in many cases exagerated in its sucess, doesnt make you a general.

There are a lot of other factors that make the game not 100% real. Besides every game out there, and ones that are coming out, are all far from based on reality. To set yourself apart you cannot copy another.

The game seems to be really huge but ...its a Role playing game which means you take a role and then things are simple .
You can be a farmer and for not getting bored you can be a soldier too.
So i think you can combine one crafting proffesion and one warior.
    you Cant do All.
    And yes its a game
if someone replace his real life needs with a game that is his problem.
Well i was looking for a game for 2 years that have this possibilities Crafting and Combat with some realism.
well thats from me (sotty for my english)

  • Entreri28Entreri28 Member Posts: 589

Leading a armed units in raids/battle doesn't make you a general?  I didn't know success had anything to do if you were a general.  Must be lots of fake generals then.  Whether he was real or not the character Spartacus was a general.  Kinda why I said my original statement.

No one wants to play a game that is 100% realistic.
