April seems to be when some really good games are coming out. I think it would be dumb to release it then (lots of competition). I think if they want a shot then release it earlier. Right now we have only garbage MMOs out right now so the sooner the better for us and them.

Originally posted by BigDogofBria somehow i doubt it... any real guesses on when this game will be released... i've heard april
Pirates of the Burning Sea (12/31/05) The Chronicle (12/31/05) Parfait Station (12/31/05) Dark Solstice (12/31/05) And just to be a little bit different... Tactica Online (01/01/06)
Do you really think four games are going to release on the same day?
First, PotBS did not give Mmorpg.com a specific release date. They didn't give anyone a specific release date. Way back at the start of 2005, up to E3, they had hoped to release it "by the end of the year." Hence, Dec. 31, which is "end of the year." But, see, PotBS CHANGED their predicted release date during the summer of 2005. Instead of "end of the year" (which was interpreted to be Dec. 31), it was CHANGED to a rather nebulous "winter." That's not December, winter, that's January-March winter. Emphasis on March.
That's where you get the rumours about April. Some bright person has figured out, if you take the one or two month beta delay, add it on to "winter", you get April.
But that's still guessing.
The absolute most up to date "release date" -- coming from Rusty himself -- is that PotBS does not have a predicted "release date". If Mmorpg.com wanted to be accurate, they would classify it as "UNKNOWN." Rusty said they would not be updating "winter release" until they were decently (a long ways) into beta.
So you can hope for a March release, or April, or whatever. No one knows what the release date will be, not Mmorpg.com, not the devs, and certainly NOT any forum members.
If you need a guess, look for it next fall/winter. The first beta invites went out Saturday, and as of Monday, none of the first 23-30 beta testers had logged into the game yet. Release will depend on how beta goes (which HAS NOT started yet, as of yesterday).
Dec. 31 is going to COME, and GO, and then Mmorpg.com will create another fictional release date, just to keep everyone happy.
As a point of clarification, Pirates of the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Burning Sea has just begun the closed beta process. Neither a release date, nor a monthly subscription fee has been definitively decided. Keep your eyes on the headlines at www.burningsea.com for future updates!

They're not fictional, they're estimates
