Eh, the same thing happened to Aion regarding artstyle inclusions. It does change some people's opinion of a game, we all play with different points of importance afterall. As bcbully said I'm more concerned with the linear questing to cap. The game world is absolutly beautiful and is hate to be led by the nose with so much freedom in other areas of the game. Hopefully they'll add more dynamic leveling content.
As far as the costumes... yes they look corny and artstlye breaking but won't effect me at least trying the game.
"In a world beset by war, one armorsmith's grief at losing his teddy will drive him to make armor with absolutely protective value. He is, The Cuddlevenger!"
Oddly, the sloth has peaked my interest in this game. I had decided to wait until after launch and see what the reviews were but now I am going to look a bit harder at this one.
"Sean (Murray) saying MP will be in the game is not remotely close to evidence that at the point of purchase people thought there was MP in the game." - SEANMCAD
It's always amusing to me that people focus on this little ancillary thing when 99.999999% of the actual *gameplay* has zero to do with this.
Its like focusing on hair on hobbits feet and ignoring the actual *story* of Lord of the Rings books.
But I guess since most have not played ArcheAge this is all you have to go on, videos that show of bear costumes, and not actual depth of gameplay.
But those who've actually played it know how unimportant this is - let's focus on Korgis in Rift as that is all there is, right?
/face palm
You do know there are a bazillion other clothing/armor/kite options that are not sloths and bears, right?
Why not judge every MMO by one stupid costume they have - they all have it, but that would be silly, just like it is here.

I dont get all the fuss... This has absolutely nothing to do with the game. Its still the same game, all the PVP, all the farming and sandboxiness. All the castle sieges and glider divebombings and pirate ships.... for craps sake who the eff cares about a bear costume? Every MMO has rediculous over the top costumes and mounts and other hilarious stuff on the cash shop.
But hey guess what... if you dont like it, you dont have to buy it.... novel idea I know. I hereby grant you permission to not spend money on over the top fantasy rediculous costumes in the cash shop. There, now dont you all feel better? Can we get back to actual gameplay, mechanics and maybe even how Trion will handle things here for us, like pay models and stuff that actually matters and not waste time on this nonsense?
While I can understand that admist Trion's silence creates a void of information and many are left with drawing their own conclusions. The two quoted posters above speak the truth as this kind of thing is not at all what AA is about. As many have come from extremely shallow themeparks, one could be misled that anything you see in AA videos is something you see everywhere. In reality, AA has more depth than just about any MMO in the last 10 years if ever. The activities you partake in can be truly unique to EVERY individual. There are endless activities to focus on and the world is absolutely gigantic! This means the population is spread out over the entire game world and there are very very few places where players all congregate. So AA isn't like many themeparks where you will see players all hanging out in cities waiting for their dungeon queue to pop while wearing bear costumes. So the players that are into this kind of thing might not be easily found and most certainly wont be seen all the time.
You just have to ask yourself what is most important to you, a truly DEEP game with an incredible feature set that has a high probability to be a game where playtime is measured in years not days or months. Or a game where depth is limited, creativity is discouraged and long term playablitly is limited to days or months.
For all those whom state that they will likely only play AA for days or a month, will find that they have only barely scratched the surface of the game and will end up playing it far, far longer than that. Once you have truly dove into the meat of AA content, it will be very very hard to play themepark driven games thereafter and that includes ESO, Wildstar, and until proven otherwise even EQN.
That is certainly encouraging to someone like myself who wants to play for the long term and likes depth. Are you saying that the videos showing linear quest hub level progression are not indicative to the rest of the level progression? To me this is what themepark is and if AA has a lot of side things to do that's great but is still themepark.
Hopefully this isn't the case as I said before AA looks to have a large beautiful world.

No, the issue is they don't get it.
Which is ok as I suppose they aren't expected to "get it".
Some people don't want to play in a world that has this stuff. They and others can shout "gameplay trumps all!" but that doesn't make it true.
In any case, my interest in this game, as I have mentioned elsewhere, is academic.
In addition, no one knows what Trion is going to include or not include so people saying "this is for the east" have no idea what Trion will consider of value.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

I am absolutely saying that, in fact that is one of my biggest pet peeves and that is players coming from themeparks, playing AA like a themepark (which it will let you do). I see countless videos and streams where players are playing AA like a themepark. The reality is, minus early scarecrow quests (completable by level 10) you can avoid questing entirely (as I did) and level to max doing only what you find rewarding. In fact, the most successful players are those whom forget about leveling completely and start building their empire as soon as they step foot into the world. End game starts at around level 10 and there is no need to rush to 50 whatsoever. Do what you enjoy and it will level you and just about everything you do gives xp, heck you can level to 50 on just farming and trading alone if you choose or you can pick endless other activities to do the same.
If you spend all your time questing in AA, your doing it wrong!

Oh come on. The sloth has dance moves. You can stab it in the neck with a set of handle bars and fly it. What possible reason could you have for not wanting to play this game?
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I wonder why Trion would think this a good video to show here in the west,i doubt you will see anyone say it looks like a great costume mount.Trion's job now is to market the product, yes anything and everything can be construed as a marketing tool but this is like imo and probably others as well a VERY poor choice.
Even if you THINK this costume will bother you,do you really think over here many will be using it?I see MANY people make comments on this video and think it represents the whole game, how can any decently experienced gamer think that?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Speak to our Mayor in Toronto about it, think he is one of the Dev's
How many mmos have you localized, i suspect with your knowledge their have been many.
That sloth was gettin' it in!

Putting the fear into Pirates !!!
Or make the die from laughing !!!
enough said....
And now, the last thoughts of actually taking these korean art pieces seriously went to trash.
Couldn't even bother to touch an MMO with artstyle like that,.
