This isn't surprising.. SOE said the F2P game would be READY this winter.. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore.. Now you have to PAY to play a beta version.. And when does the F2P version go live? Obviously not this winter as PROMISED.. LOL So I guess the rest of the free playing public has to wait till Summer? or next Fall?
Also the founders packs are incredibly poor value for a F2P title, the only redeeming value is the early access. At least Dragon's Prophet offered a decent stash of Station Cash to support early adopters.
Last part, people who should be playing beta are those who wanna help the games development and wanna see the game do well so they also wont mind paying some $$$ to help the process along since they wanna play this game, People who wanna F2P the game are those who just wanna play somthing for nothing so the ywont realy care to much about helping the game along in development so dont need axcess to an incomplete game thats in beta cause they get impressions of an incomplete game and not play it when its finish.
I am not a freeloader. I have paid for many early access packages in MMOs and have been subscribed to EQ2 since launch. This does not detract from the fact that what SoE are offering in these packs are incredibly poor value compared to previous offerings from other companies and themselves. They are being sold entirely for the early access, rather than promoting early investment with pre-purchase of in-game items like other games have done.
Wow, and I thought the pre order packs for Neverwinter were steep.
99.99 bucks just to be able to get into the game earlier then anyone else?
A set of unique clothing/vault doesn't seem nearly worth it to me.
I mean if these packs were like 19.99, 29.99, then 39.99 they'd sell a LOT more then these super expensive packs.
I mean they want MORE then the price of a FULL fledged game to get into a free to play game early?
Did no one take economics at SOE? Sure some people WILL buy the 99.99 packs to get into game early, but they would have moved a lot more money by having the prices be you know...reasonable for most people.
People will pay $100 just for having their names in the credit of EQN if u ask me.

Some people will pay $100 just for anything. And if you can shout "but wait, there is more!" they'll just throw money at you.
LOOOOOOOOOL
this grahor, serously dude.. go to another forum, we get it.. you hate the game. no one cares.
As far as the OP is concerned, I think thats a sweet package.. I will probably buy the $100.00 package, why? because I have a wife and at least 2 friends that are interested in the game.. and if I can get them into the beta for just a little extra cost? why not?
The $99 is more for the beta keys than anything else. You could sell each of those for $5-$10 on ebay easily and get back $20-$40. After that you are now only spending like $10-$20 on upgrading from the $60 pack.
I can only say im dissapointed in this kind of launch even though my faith in Sony as a Company has lowered so much over the past years, I was still naive enough to think they actually would keep their Winter launch of EQNL , and now the beta starts in Q1 of 2014 lol.... meaning the launch of EQNL will probally not be before of 2-3 months of beta meaning summer 2014 ... Im starting to worry that the real game EQN will be 2015 release, maybe even 2016 Q1.
If so their nice show about EQN was like Pussy you do not get to fock.. fake beens.. alot of cum around the cheese cake. BS! if you ask me.. But well im just sad and dissapointed.
John Smedley posted on the Everquest Next Reddit, and he said those placeholders dates are the LATEST dates. They plan to have alpha and beta start much sooner then that, but that is the absolute latest.
If I ever happen to pass Smedley walking down the street, I'm just gonna hand him a hundred dollar bill & ask him to punch me in the gut.
Those of us who are interested in perfecting the gut-punch are happy to pay this fee. Those of you who are not interested should just leave me & Smeds to our business & stop hating on us players.

agoMy thoughts on this
1) The dates we have listed are "on or before" dates. What that means is we will start Alpha on our before the end of February. Truth is we intend to start it a long time before that. But you can be guaranteed that we will start it by that date.
2) Why are we letting people into an Alpha? - This is a whole new development style for us. We're making a completely new kind of game and because of that we need a lot more people to help us test things out and make it great. An Alpha is NOT for everyone. Alpha's tend to be very buggy and change a lot, so expect a ton of downloads. That being said, you also can have an amazing influence over the games direction. I think that's pretty cool.
3) Why is the trailblazer pack cost so much? We put out 3 different pricepoints to suit everyone's desire. Ultimately the game is F2P but we actually have to have serious volume to make that work. In the interim while we're building, we have to build out the infrastructure sooner than we ordinarily would.
4) What is Landmark exactly? - It is a standalone, social building and exploring MMO. It will have combat (though not at launch) and a ton of other features.
hope this helps understand
