Bah I wasn't going to even bother posting over here on the DnL forums anymore but I wnadered over just to see how it was going and now I am intrigued and I have to know something.
Why bother? I mean why bother posting anything positive about the game now? It's not like anyone can or for that matter would run right out to Best Buy or Walmart and buy a copy because of your post. Even if it was a free download NP3 has gave themselves one hell of a black eye, and most people would not waste time, HD space or bandwidth to DL it.
Right now it would take stable servers, more than one quest in game, some kick butt combat, NPC's, a trade system, a craft system, optimized graphics and a lot of free accounts giving the game good lip service before this game ever stands a chance. So why even both posting over here anymore. I guess what I am saying no one really cares at this point what one or two people think, it is going to take thousands of good posts and some decent reviews by reputable game sites to save this turkey from the wasteland of canceled games.
Same goes for the flamers. What can be said that has nor already been said. Everyone knows now how bad the game is , the server instabilit, the lack of content etc. So why even bother?
For that matter why did I even bother wasting 3 minutes to make this thread? It's good entertainment watching you all argue over this dead game walking.

Last Friday night, I managed to get in about 3 hours of play time in SoG.
In that time, I crashed due to the dnlg.exe error about a dozen times, and the last time I was "disconnected" and could not get back in.
I have not been able to connect since then.
My honest impression of the game so far is it's not too bad. However, after +4 years of development and that's all they have is scarey as hell.
IMHO, there is no way they are going to be ready to release in April'06, and if they do, it will look quite a bit like what we have in SoG right now.

Furrbawl, you hit the nail RIGHT on the head in my opinion.
It isn't that the game is bad in my opinion....but they have been working on it for 4 years. FOUR YEARS and yet so much is incomplete. What they have may be good but it has taken them 4 years to get it, and with major gameplay areas incomplete/bad after four years....I don't get how they can expect a release in April.
Not to mention, part of making a good MMORPG is showing that you can release new content at a timely pace. If it has taken them 4 years to create what they have created....I don't see how they could release new content after the game unless it comes once a year...when at least every 3 months has come to be expected (at least in my opinion) in a hit MMORPG.
They just move too slow for what they are doing.

I as a fan look forward to the day this will be a game... it doesn't cost me anything... I see progress atm, more than I ever have with this game, and I wont torpedo any new ideas or games. I like giving everything a chance to be finished.
If this game doesn't do well we all lose... if it does do well... we all win!

The funny thing is, the people who scream and troll the most, must like the game the most aswell.
I don't see any reason why anyone would stick around in forums for a game that you do not like.
They are only emotionally exaggerated due to not being able to play the game. I know I am for sure, I want to get in right now and play a day-straight if it was possible.
Saying stuff that the game is toast when far from release is like going back 100 years saying something like the TV never is going to be invented.

A couple of unrelated points.
Why do you let the trolls bother you so much. I am doing the SWG trial right now which has about a thousand times more people who are unhappy for one reason or another bashing it right now. Does not bother me in the least. I just log in and play and try and decide whether I want to renew my Station pass for a month of it and EQII. No biggie. The only reason I am doing the trial is because a friend re tried it and seemed to enjoy it. Not because of some idiot post on this or another board. That by the way is the only thing that will ever save this game, that is if the Devs can make it into something that you not be ashamed to reccomend. All these "OMGFG this game is so cool" and " give the devs a break, they are trying" board posts just make you look like fan boy idiots who cannot see the writing on the wall or recognize a chunk of feces when you are chewing on it.
Another point is what progress Black ? Hell, you can't even log into the game. This week it is hackers, last week it was the players faults because all their machines were not identical clones. Sidenote- maybe they should reprogram the game for the PS3 or something. Next week it will be little green men sabotaging their game I suppose.
I do concur it would be a awesome game if ever finished and stable but by this time it is patently obvious these guys can't program anything but a pretty world engine. Database and server code is just not their thing and a day week or even 6 months will not save them from that. You have a dead game walking here and not even the Chinese think it is worth a rats rear end. The only thing it has going for it is a pretty world and a few travel gimmicks. Dead game walking.

You guys don't bother me at all, I find the situation interesting, a little sad and a little funny. Like the title of the post says, why bother. Just play it when/if the server is up and maybe post if they do something really note worthy like get the servers stable or add some content. Trying to convince anyone the game is good right now is pretty much a effort in futility. One that I find amusing to watch.

The point is that no one in their right mind will ever spend a penny on this "product" until they get some proof in the form of unbiased third party reviews that all is well. The fan boy/Dev/AD reviews, testimonials, and excuses on this or that are not worth the pixels they are printed on.

There are fanboys and trolls with some that don't fit into either category thrown in. Each has their opinion even if it's sitting on the fence. The point is that all are just opinons! Jackdog, in your opinion the game blows chunks and you're welcome to your opinion. Why troll about it. You can tell people the game sux without trolling or flaming. Just cuz someone has a different opinion to yours doesn't make your opinion right minded.

A opinion would be something of the order "the combat sucks"
A fact would be "the server is down 90% of th4 time"
An opinion would be" I like the graphics"
A fact would be " there is only one quest in the game and it is bugged"
A opinion would be" They will fix it"
A fact would be "Most people have very low frame rates in the game and it crashes to desktop frequently"
Now hopefully using these guidelines you will be able to seperate opinuions from facts.

Sometimes I get carried away with disgust at the idiocy and underhanded lying "it's not our fault BS" that NP3 pulls. I think that round of bile was in response to their claim that the reason they can't get the servers up was because of hackers.
