General: Trion's Trove to Be Like Cube World?

UPDATE: Read our full preview HERE.

Another cryptic hint has been dropped via the TroveGame Twitter account, the recently revealed title that Trion Worlds is working on (we think!). This time, the question is, "What will you find?" and features a screenshot that looks suspiciously like Cube World. What do you think?

I would only play something like this if it was World of Nintendo.

Thank goodness that someone is making a voxel based game! I was starting to worry that we'd never ever see one of those, let alone way too many of them popping up at the same time all stealing directly from each other.

Bill, Suzie.  I love you guys right now.

Yes, this does look 'a lot' like cubeworld.

Which is a great game in it's own right, and people should go pick it up and get it notice.

Maybe if we're lucky they'll make it f2p and add in a huge microtransaction store.

The only thing better than more voxels is more cashshop!

I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing that AAA developers are ripping off small indies now.

As interesting as this looks I honestly think Trion needs to focus on its current MMOs. There is still no clue as to when ArcheAge will even go into Beta and it's been out quite a while now. That and Defiance has a lot of problems not yet fixed.

I think they are taking on too many projects at once.

It's my worry also, before Rift noone had heard from Trion before. Now in less than 3 years they got 4 titles, and gone through major reorganization. I hope quantity isn't going to hurt the quality.

    Heh. Hehe. Ha ha hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I see what you did there!

I would be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued, but at the same time I'd be lying if I said I thought whatever they were doing would be in any way close to what I've done and am doing in Minecraft right now.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Oh look, another Voxel-based sandboxy game.

Seems developers have found a new genre to run into the ground with "me-too" clones.

    Yay.

And I agree with the above.. It's a sad state of affairs (and rather agitating) when AAA developers are lifting ideas from indie developers. But that's the way it goes. Wait for someone else to find something popular, and then shamelessly rip it off.

Let's see how watered down and simplistic publishers and developers can make the sandbox genre now, competing for that "least common denominator". They've all but ruined the MMO genre chasing it, why not drag it out and ruin another genre now.

I'm hoping they reveal that they bought Cube World and are working with the guy to create something bigger...

Otherwise that is just an awful, blatant rip off.

I think people have no idea how the business world works.  Labor is easy to find now, and you can't have too many people on one team or inefficiency tends to go up.  If they have a good team in place for Rift, what does hiring someone for another project do to Rift?  The answer is: practically nothing.

Voxel-based games take far fewer resources to create (fewer artists, modelers, etc) than traditional games.  If their monetary investments in this game don't pay off, it won't be a big deal.

The only thing that would complete the current cycle is for someone to make a voxel MOBA and bring the unoriginal overkill to a head.

A Voxel Based MOBA that is F2P with a Cash Shop and Facebook integration and a Twitter feed!

    Awesome post!

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

I feel the exact opposite, in a 3D virtual setting with outstanding graphical displays, reverting back to 8 bit or voxel based graphics is a step in the wrong direction.

I bought Cube World but only played it a few days before the graphics got to me.  Make a Cube World with Skyrim quality graphics and I'd probably still be playing.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

I thought visually it looks more like proteus than cube world.

I didn't say anything about Rift. I said Defiance which apparently does not have a good team working on it as there are still many problems going on with it. That and they've had ArcheAge behind closed curtains forever now (it's to the point where when it is finally released there may not be a big enough player base to sustain the game due to loss of interest).

That and they've already had to reorganize the company, and Trion is the new company on the block, so having to majorly change the company around when they've only been in the business for a little while doesn't bode very well.

there are already dozens of voxel based games out there.  I hope I don't have to wait another decade for developers to come up with a unique idea.
