Knowing how Bioware does things, I believe that this Galactic Starfighter expansion is just the doorway into more detailed space sim mechanics in future expansions. They are simply testing the waters with this. Next you'll see PvE elements added (possibly mid-2014) and then @ holiday season 2014 (suspiciously right around the same time that Star Citizen and Eve: Valkyrie are due to release) we'll probably see some sort of full free-flight mechanic added. I'm not saying full on X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter, but something close to it. At least that's what I think.

While I hope you are right, I'm not sure by what you mean by "the way Bioware does things". The people that made Bioware great are gone from the company, the new Bioware spends more dev time on store items than new content by a landslide. My guess is if it isn't part of the expansion, all we will see from here on out is new pilot clothes or ship skins.
I would argue that the most played feature in the game aren't warzones it is leveling. The amount of people doing warzones doesn't speak to the strength of the PvP but the weakness of the end game PvE options.
Wish it wasn't EA the owner of this game. Their abusive money practises deserve punishment, not to mention the great studios (like Bioware itself) they ruined. But damn, this expansion looks awesome.
Wait a minute, so they're throwing the existing ships each class has out of the window?
I actually liked my Sith Inquisitor's Fury. Maybe they'll "add them back" in the future when they'll expand into heavier class ships (maybe something like Star Conflict?).

No they're not. This new game mode is PvP only ships. You still have the "on-rails" space mini game with you're class ship but now PvP has ship battles that use completely different ships.
My frown is upside down. ++100 It is actually a lot of fun and based on how the game is designed it fits right in. Here is hoping we also get space PvE missions in groups down the development road
Space Combat in SWTOR has always been a piss take mini-game for kids, and a great disappointment along with a great deal of the rest of the game, they're apparently expanding the system whilst retaining all the lousyness of the mechanics, even planetside 2 supports basic joystick setups, if SWTOR wants to win people back it should have made real space combat not frankly some lousy mini-game with mechanics similar to that kids mmo Clone Wars Adventurers, its just a big let down.

Its alot easier to program a PvP game vs PvE, as you don't have to program the PvP characters; they come pre-programmed

If you want a sim, Star citizen is coming. GS is pretty much like War thunder, wich is good because WT is and amazing game, i have been playing on the PTS this weekend, GS is just insanely fun and addictive, is all about skills and how good your aim is, and it really feels like you are in a Star wars Movie, the sound and the music are just epic, the non-stop action all around, even when you need to make your way through a ships exploding. GS is not a sim and it never will, but like i said it feel like a star wars movie, and thats all about. BW did a great job with this one and cant wait to see how it will grow.

I wouldn't see why they should not do so; Sure adding a new zone or planet is easy, just takes time to add new ground content, but a new mechanic in the game is another thing. I don't see any reason to eventually add PvE content in the future with freeform space flight to some degree
Originally posted by jbombard I'm currently playing SWTOR and right now this has my excitement level hovering around zero. It's PvP only. Considering the strengths of SWTOR are in the PvE components, not sure their put all the eggs in the PvP basket is going to pay off for them.
You're kidding right?
The only reasoned I stayed with SWTOR until it went F2P was because of PVP! It had some of the most fun PVP in any MMO I've played!

Warzones are the most played feature of SWTOR, even on the PvE servers. Space warzone, make sense.

We are going to have to act, if we want to live in a different world.
