If it was a blizzard email, and you cannot log in, you did the right thing by submitting a ticket. You may want to call and speak to someone aswell. You'll be fine. It may take a few days though.
Complex password + authenticator + never trusting any e-mails + keeping AV/anti-Malware up to date + keeping system/security updates current = never hacked or scammed in 9 years off and on WoW play.
You are BadSpock. Hackers are no match compared to your powers of evil logic
off-topic, why you no play EVE anymore? Did you get a few weeks worth of work blown up while afk near an asteroid belt like me?
"In the immediate future, we have this one, and then weve got another one that is actually going to be so were going to have, what we want to do, is in January, what were targeting to do, this may or may not happen, so you cant hold me to it. But what were targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. An alien race might invade, and they might crash into Ilum and there might be some new activities that happen on the planet." ~Gabe Amatangelo
lel, I have never worked in computer security and I have never been hacked and nothing ever got stolen, I have been online gaming since 1998. Why I don't get hacked? because I am not an idiot.
ive played wow for 8 yrs or more and have never been hacked. i get ban emails and change password emails and ignore them. im always able to log in no issue. a bout 4 yrs back maybe 5 i got authenticator out of fear of being hacked. never had an issue. Then again i never try to get free mounts or stuff like that as i know is all bogus.
Blizzard has asked you to change your password as they saw some unusual activity on your account, change your password, get an authenticator (free on mobile) and continue playing.
This all assuming the email was real and you didn't click a link in said email which is the reason your account got banned in the first instance.
Because I have changed my password and the issue was never suspicion. It was an actual hack and neither I nor Blizzard seemed to find, and when they deemed it hacked they banned without recourse. That is wrong.
I work in Security Industry for over 2 decades and familiar with simple phishing scams.
Still my question is not answered what additional options are there for dispute. And my answer may be none which would be disappointing.
I had a similar thing happen to my account a long time ago. I sent in a ticket and went through the options online to verify the account was mine and I was who I said I was. It took maybe a week if that and Blizzard had me back in game and most of my gear/money recovered. I know everyones experience is different, but Blizzard responded very quickly with my situation, but that was back when the game was more popular and had more people employed.
I would recommand you get an authendicator, an authendicator is an extra USEFUL security that protect your account A LOT. I have a authendicator on my phone and it's free to download that app and set it up, and I never EVER got hacked on my account thanks to this authendicator. I recommand picking one up right away to prevent getting hacked again, and tell your friends about it prevent them from getting hacked in the future.

I got hacked back on my L60 with Blackdragonscale armor (Edit: OOPS, my mistake, it was more recent than this). Whoever did it added a mobile authenticator to extra lock me out. Sucked butt. Called them. Fixed the problem in ~2 hrs. They even restored (some) of the items I had in my account.
Ever since I added the authenticator? Never. So I swear by them in all my games.
I work in Security Industry for over 2 decades and familiar with simple phishing scams.
Work in the Security Industry as a security guard most probably, because your lack of internets saviness makes me think you got a virus on your pc which stole your accounts details (and which you were not smart enough to have an authenticator) or you just fell for a phishing scam and is too ashamed to admit it.
GOT FUCKING BANNED! I spent a year getting my Hunter to 90 and was just going to the timeless isle. Check my email and it says that my account is banned.
Now Blizzard has sent me messages saying that someone tried to access my account, please change your password. Which I would do but there was no communication that the account WAS BEING USED and I was actually hacked.
I have placed a ticket, and reaching out to others who may have been banned for the wrong reasons asking if I have any other options or is the ticket it?
I'm 100% fighting this
In hindsight Blizzard does a horrible job managing hacking.
Thanks for your help.
You were probably hacked because you opened that email otherwise blizzard has no excuse to ban you, emails can contain trojans too/keyloggers

Blizzard doesn't send e-mail like that, in fact any half-decent company with an IT department that is not populated by half wits and crack addicts and that takes security seriously would never send e-mail like that for the simple reason that if someone has hacked your product there is a chance they did so by hacking the email in the first place.
So if you clicked a link in an e-mail then that is the reason you can't get into your account right now, the e-mail was a trap and you fell for it.
If there is one good thing about this then it is that from now on you know, for the rest of your life, never to fall for such a trap again. Because really, there is no decent company out there that would send you an e-mail to tell you you are banned or that your account was comprimised. It is simply not done in the world of cybersecurity, not at blizzard, not at other game companies or any other company for that matter.

And still you didn't think to buy an authenticator. WoW accounts have been getting hacked for years this should not be so blindsiding to you. You should not have gotten hacked for sure but you didn't do much to protect yourself. Hope blizz works it out for you.
Optimizing PC games for consoles is kinda like outfitting your car for a bike trail.
I get e-mails all the time saying my account has been banned and this and that, but I can still log in. If you have been hacked, Blizzard bans your account for both yours and their protection. I had real life friend get hacked and banned. After about a week, he got it sorted out and was unbanned.
A) Supposedly works in IT Security (albeit he says before commercial internet so it might be completely useless experience anyhow).
Comes to forums yelling and screaming, asking very simple to answer questions; "What recourse do I have and how do I take care of this?"
C) Doesn't use the most basic and common security procedures.
D) Acts as if Blizzard doesn't help out immediately. Most recoveries take less than a couple hours, unless it's a LARGE impact situation like deletion of characters etc..
He's obviously moved on at this point, but I wouldn't count on this being anything more than an attention grab.
Just because every car has similar features doesn't mean that Ferraris are copies of Model Ts. Progress requires failure and refining.
Get a better, longer password or get an authenticator. It really is your own fault that you got hacked because you didn't have the right means of security. Blizzard can't stop anyone from getting your password and having access to your account.
They actually did you a favor by temporarily banning your account so that no more harm or hacking can be done to it and are giving you the chance to change the password so it may be avoided in the future.
Authenticator works very well. Meantime, your account was banned to prevent any further damage to your characters and any guilds they might be in. Banned is the best thing that can happen if the hack is authentic.
One thing I recommend to everybody that plays wow. Scan your drivers license (in the event of your account being compromised) and add an authenticator. If you have an authenticator you will never have any problems with blizzard. They are quick to ban people for suspicious activity but they are also very quick in recovering accounts if you upload them a photo ID. Most of the times it takes less then an hour.
Could also be a fake scam mail. Have you tried logging in?
And I hope you haven't clicked any link in that mail.
Authentic. Tried to logon and cannot. Also cannot access us.battle.net.
The issue is the suspicious activity wasn't suspicious it was being used by someone else but Blizzard didn;t do anything about it except ask me to change my password then they banned me. Their process is broken and looking to reverse.
Seems only recourse is wait for the ticket response which is 48 hours. Rediculous.
In red above, thats the reason your account was banned. It says in the EULA that you aren't allowed to allow others to use your account. While they don't normally enforce it, it's well within their rights to do so.
Just to question the philosophy. Army of Socrates.

+1 to this one!
You're not out of your mind, though. I actually have 4 different computers with WoW installed, plus a couple ios devices with armory on it.
I never had an issue with it until I moved and had to change ISPs as well. After that, it would bark at me each and every time I tried to log on to a different device. I was constantly, literally constantly, changing my password back and forth every 1-2 logins. I think that I actually may have sourced it to the armory app, but can't be 100%. It was just a massive hassle.
Either way, I put the authenticator back on my account and I haven't had any further authentication issues with my PCs, but I can't really mess with the armory app since it seems to not authenticate properly or something and sends me back into an authentication loop. On my PCs I generally get 15 or 20 days out of a code, or whenever the next update happens.

^ this happens to me also. I even get emails about my account being banned to an email address I have never used for wow. I never open any of them.
