The Novus Aeterno team has announced that a Kickstarter initiative to help complete the funding needs of the upcoming MMORTS will kick off later today. Novus Aeterno has been in development for several years and is nearing completion.

Key Features:

  1. A true MMORTS – build your space empire in cooperation with and against thousands (and thousands) in a single galaxy

  2. Persistent play – No short play sessions. Your empire continues to thrive or be threatened 24/7 through continuous play that can span weeks, months and years.

  3. Sandbox Design – no pre-set missions or linear storyline. PvP play (PvE is a stretch goal)  the way you want to play.

  4. Based on the D.I.M.E military ‘empire management’ philosophy – Diplomacy, Intelligence, Military or Economy; form alliances and play to your strengths.

  5. 5 complete race factions – humans + 4 alien races (only human available at launch) with their own lore, fleets and technologies

  6. Fully-customizable ships – tailor your ships to match your objectives with hundreds of ships divided into 5 separate ship hull classes and wide array of engines, armors and weaponry.

  7. Directional ship armor and weapons; varied weapon effects and weapon range/firing arc displays

  8. All in game credits/resources/components ‘exist’ and must be loaded onto transport ships to move between planets or be traded with other players.

  9. Stunning intergalactic HD graphics; built on the HAVOK Visions engine

  10. Soundtrack:  hours of full orchestration by Denny Schneidemesser

  11. Optimized for minimal lag in low bandwidth regions (even playable across dial-up)

  12. Basic in-game chat

We will keep you posted when the Kickstarter campaign launches officially later today. In the meantime, head to the site for more information about the game.

I understand most indie studios are working with small teams and limited resources, but seriously some of the crap they keep boasting they are so proud of would have been considered antiquated 10 years ago.

Sadly all these micro indie studios are doing by kickstarting one POS game after another is hurting the serious indie studios that may actually have a chance to release a quality project.

Enough trying to get kickstart rich off your high school  homework projects.

    game looks interesting.

the only thing im tired of from indie studios are the words 'platformer' and 'side-scroller'. i didn't live through all this technological change so i could go back in time 20 years please.

"There are at least two kinds of games.
One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."

Omg, I'm so sick of all the sidescrollers! They are all the same, just with different skins!

If you had watched this you wouldn't call it antiquated. Also, I believe they have 25 developers working on this. Not some small team creating a "high school homework project". I know what you are referring too, but I think this one is not an example of what you are talking about. 2 mins on their page showed me that this is a real project and it's already playable.

By the way, the Kickstarter project is up now: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2122031929/novus-aeterno-a-true-aaa-mmorts

If you're into RTS or Space-based games, we'd really appreciate your support if the idea of a MMORTS excites you.

Feel free to ask me any questions about the project, and I'll pass them along.
