Sony Online Entertainment has announced the first anniversary of PlanetSide 2. The team released some fascinating statistics for the past year and that there will be a special first anniversary live stream from now through 6:00 pm PDT (9:00 pm EDT).
Our own Bill Murphy will be on-stream with Tramell Ray Isaac, likely dying alot, between 3pm and 4pm PST (6pm and 7pm EST). Be sure to watch on PS2's channel and here on our Streams Page! We'll be giving away some exclusive decals during the stream, so don't miss it!
Over the course of the year, SOE has been on an ambitious path to expand the game's conventional and geographical boundaries. PlanetSide 2 became the first video game to feature the ability to stream gameplay directly to the Twitch platform with a single click, and through a partnership with Major League Gaming, the free-to-play title began its journey in the competitive gaming scene. Sony Online Entertainment also developed strategic international partnerships, spreading PlanetSide 2 across the globe to new audiences in Europe, Russia, South Korea, China and Brazil.

Registrations are largely meaningless. I am registered and haven't played since a fortnight after release.
I wonder what the active player base is?
Yeah I hate that in the now F2P world companies brag about registrations. It truly is meaningless. It doesn't tell how financial stable the game is. Doesn't say how many people actively play (and more importantly from a business perspective how many people regularly pay and how much). The numbers are inflated by people creating multiple accounts and from people trying it for a minute and realizing they hate it.
I tried it out several months back and forced myself to play for 2 hours since I didn't like it pretty quickly. At the end of that I uninstalled it and have had zero desire to ever step foot in there again. And this is from someone who enjoyed PS1 at launch.
