$15 per account...isn't that a little much?

RiverWoodRiverWood Member Posts: 12

I know this game is good and all, but should it really be this high? Isn't it like saying to the rest of the gaming world "I am better then ANY other game, so I should get more" and  "I challenge other MMOGs to make a game and demand this price". Quite bold for any company to try to pull off, even a company with a long history of producing MMOGs. I personally think more then $12 a month for any game is too much.

P.S. I havn't played this game. So if you point out reasons it is worth it and say "you dont know what your talking about"...well...your right. Try and convince me on the issue. I am very open-minded and if someone makes think a $15 game is worth playing, then ill give it a shot.

I'm done, its your turn to rant and rave.

yes and the crazy thing is thay chage full price for the game as well

  • aponlyaponly Member Posts: 6

Actually, if you play it an hour a day, that makes an average of 50 cents per hour.  That's pretty cheap entertainment.

Give it a couple of months and you'll be able to buy it for $10 off or more on sales, just like any other new game.

  • EnarkEnark Member Posts: 7

The first thing I thought when I saw the price was 15 Bucks! You gotta be kidding.

I bought the game anyway, but if it isn't really good I'll move on to another game in a few months.

Yeah it is steep.  And when the game launched with tons of bugs and a real lack of content it really ticked people off.  I play and love the game, but I see why the combination of high price and typical mmorpg launch problems have made people give bad reviews of this game.  I am one of the few people who understand both sides; I know why people like this game and I understand what makes them dislike the game.  There are long lists of pro's and con's at this point.  But like all mmorps's worth their salt, the pro's will outnumber the cons in the upcoming weeks.

Once my free 30 days is over I'm heading back to DAoC. Don't get me wrong SWG is fun, but it's too buggy. I'll wait till after another six months before trying it out again.

the price is too much. I was shocked when I found out I needed to pay 50 for the game...but I shrugged it off...then I was shocked when I found out it costed 14.95 a month!!! I didn't even look at the price while setting up my account. I assumed it was 12.95 like every other game...wtf are they doing jacking up the price like that?

School is coming up after my free trial is over, so I don't think I'lll continue playing. In fact I don't think I'll have time to play much of ANYTHING during school...at least till I get everything sorted out...then it's Horizons for me :)

14.95 is outrageous.  I will never buy this game, and I will never play it on anyone elses computer.  Granted I hear the game is fun, and that everything about it is pretty close to gold, I'm not too big of a star wars buff and the price is outrageous.  I personally dont see why people are still playing it.

I thought the same thing, then I did the math. See I'm from Canada, and I was subscribing to AC2 for the $12.95 US.  But you see AC2 was making Canadians pay a flat $20.50 CDN funds.  With the current conversion rate, we were paying roughly the same as SWG in US.  So then, because AC2 is dieing, I switched.

Not sure if this is the same for other countries, but for some of us in Canada, we have been paying that much for online gaming for a while now.

You also have to remember Melbosa that the Canadian dollar is going up.  I believe it's a little more then $0.50 cents now you get for every $1 CAD. :)  My wife gets about $1.53 for every $1 USD.  I can remember when I went to Canada about two years ago I got about $1.68 for every $1 USD.  So that was about $0.68 profit.

Then again people in the United States don't realize that the US/CAN conversion is about equal. . .  the prices just seem to be a little higher.

I dont understand your statement Djin.  Yes the conversion is equal but that doesnt mean Canadians dont pay more.  That will always be the case when any Canadian has to pay for anything in US dollars.  The US dollar is stronger than the Canadian dollar.

Also yes $15 dollars an account is too much no one going to disagree on that.   Hell 10 dollars a month was to much but that didnt stop them from jacking up the prices of all the MMORPGs out there especially the succesful ones.  Bottom line if people pay they willl continue to jack the price up.  SWG is the best example of this.  No one makes games for people entertainment it a profit business plain and simple.  Majority of us will leave SWG cuz well if you played the game you would understand why currently it not worth the money maybe later but not now.  In the meantime how much money did they make of SWG just for releasing a bugged and in my opinion still beta game.

well there is an easy way to figure it out , what is canadian minimum wage ...? here it is like $5.00 US , if yours is like  $7.00 Can , then umm doesnt it relatively cost the same thing .... i doubt it works that way so if it doesnt i totally agree with what your saying

Pretty sure minimum wage for canuks is $6.85 per hr. ($5.02 U.S.)

Actually, the $14.99 ($19.78 Can.) per month is only one payment option.

    Current exchange rate:  $1.00 U.S. = $1.31 Can    or   $1.00 Can =  $0.73 U.S.

    The payment schemes are:

    1 month    -  $14.99   ($19.78)

    3 months   -  $41.99   ($55.44) or $14.00 ($18.47) per month.

    6 months   - $77.99   ($102.94) or $13.00 ($17.15) per month.

    12 months - $143.99 ($190.06) or $12.00 ($15.83) per month.

So if one opts to sign up for 1year, the cost per month isn't any more than many other MMO's.  image

Yes, i know 15$ a month is too much...

But if they CAN have peoples pay to beta test, why not do it!!!

(yes i know... beta was OFFICIALY closed before release... suckers...)

  • ShindouShindou Member Posts: 23

Im confused again why are you guys throwing out minimum wage comparison.  If one person in the US and one person in Canada work minimum wage jobs then it would be fairly acurrate that they are essentially paying the same to play SWG but that not the case.  Most jobs are not minimum wages and Im willing to beat most the paying adults who play MMORPGs make more than minimum wage.  Im willing to beat most Canadians make the same as Americans as far as income are concerned.  So like I said before Canadians will always pay more if they have to pay in US dollars. Think about it, one guy in the US makes 10 dollars an hour while one guy in Canada makes the same.  Obviously he going to end up paying more to play SWG.  This will usually be the case.

P.S.  Your minimum wages for US are wrong (which leads me to think the Canada one is also wrong), first off there a federel wage limit set at $5.15 but it just a guideline it up to the state to set their wage limit and each state is different, I say a guideline cause a few states minimum wages are below the $ 5.15 federal limit.

Wow talk about off topic but Im bored and voortor already sum up this whole topic nicely!

I don't know what you mean when you say the US/Canadian exchange is about equal. I'm from Canada and everywhere I go, we give about 1.40$ Can for every US dollar. For lots of people it's hard to take a vacation to the US, because of the exchange rate. But back to the original topic...

I'm not sure anyone has touched on it yet, but the reason Star Wars Galaxies is so expensive, is, well...why not? Here's my point.  You have thousands of Star Wars fans. LucasArts has been making games for quite a few years now. This is a game LOTS of people want to play or at least try, because of the simple fact that it's Star Wars! So, I think the reason they're charging so much, is because they can. They can charge lots and still make money and have lots of subscribers, because of the hard work they've done and the following they've amassed in the previous years.

Who cares about the freakin' conv rates!  Point is- SWG is BS and 15$ a month to play BS is Assenine.  Do the math kiddos (BS + BS + Gullable young chap= Assenine).  Ok, I don't mean to sound rude- but SOE charging top notch prices to play their game (compared to all other mmorpgs out there) means  they should make a top notch game to deserve their prices.  Which it ain't.

The answer is yes... $50 + 15/month is way to much to pay for a bloated chat client like SWG

  • cerinoxcerinox Member Posts: 9

$15/month for SWG is a RIP OFF. DO NOT DO NOT advance pay. I guarantee you will thank me if you end up hating the game. SOE WILL NOT refund your money. You can threaten lawsuit blah blah blah they will point to the fine print "We do not offer full or partial refunds..." something to that effect. My friend paid a year in advance, and totally hates the game and tried to get a refund. My friend is SOL. You've been warned.

if you can find someone that'll pay $188.99 for SWG, then my friend would gladly sell it. just wants his money back. if you think I'm lying, ask SOE if they'll refund a 1 year subscription they'll tell you.

I really love this game. i dont even have this game and i love it. i didnt even like star wars too much, but now guess what, i do. its a rich gaming experience. i like the kind of games with a seemingly infinate span of possibilities and potentials. its worth the price, but it could still be lowered. but i mean i can just cut my lawn twice a month and use that allowance to pay for it, and still keep 5 dollars each month, which will keep me happy.

  • TheoTheo Member Posts: 242

I agree that $15 is too much. I was content paying $10 a month for EQ, and was put off when they incresed it to $12.50. I'd probably pay as much as $15 for a game if it was the only one I was playing, but I'm worried that in the next couple of years MMOGs will start to eat up as much of my budget as my cable TV and Internet bill. Instead of a minor entertainment expense, it'll start eating up $20, $30 or more of my household budget. I don't like the trend.

It's 15 dollars a month, Maxxx. That's after the 40? dollars you pay for the box. Otherwise i'd agree with you. :)

Don't worry about the monthly cost. Install the game choose and 1 month subscription and if you are not a too casual gamer you have deinstalled this game before they charge you for the next month.

Yes hard i know, but this game lacks terrible on interessting content. It's a shame for a company like SOE who should know how to make a averange good mmorpg.
