The Star Citizen crowd-funding juggernaut continues to raise cash at an astounding rate. The most recent funding goal passed is the $29M mark that sees the addition of Squadron 42. Chris Roberts has penned a new developer blog to detail Squadron 42 along with a spiffy new video.
Last time we asked you to vote on a role for the next ship we build, and the resounding answer was that Citizens want to have a mining ship. We’re happy to oblige, but I’ll go ahead and warn you that mining in Star Citizen is going to be a lot more immersive than what you’ve seen before; you won’t be clicking on an asteroid until you’ve collected metal!
RSI Orion – Roberts Space Industries’ goal has always been to make the stars available to individual Citizens. Now, with the RSI Orion mining platform, RSI is letting individuals take over a process formerly controlled by megacorporations. The Orion’s features include high-grade turret-mounted tractor beam arrays, durable exterior-accessible ‘saddlebags’ for mineral storage and a cabin designed by the team that brought you the Aurora and Constellation!

Um, no. Squadron 42 is not an addition because they reached $29 million. It has always, from the very start, been a part of the plan. Its just everybody and their brother only wants to see the online part of SC and talk about that. Perception is not the reality in this case, though.

I hope SC turns out to be something more than another cheesy interactive movie aimed at the attention deficit disorder crowd. I know I do sound sour, but when I see this kind of stuff I just visualize money that could have been spent improving and expanding game systems being flushed down a toilet.
Let me help your post out a little bit......
"SC turns out to be....another cheesy interactive movie aimed at the attention deficit disorder crowd. money..being flushed down a toilet."
There now that's what you meant right?
Its funny seeing all these negative and misinformed posts, because I know they haven't even bothered to look at what the potential of this game is.
I can't blame people for judging the game from the Video, but the video wasn't exactly made for marketing purposes either...

I'm genuinely interested in Star Citizen's environment and potential. But, the problem with it is that it will be inaccessible to most people, including me, because it will require running the CryEngine 3 (see this article) on a top of the line PC. After all, we can't forget about how Crytek bragged that Crysis 3 will "melt down PCs" (see this article).
I wonder if Star Citizen is too ambitious for it's own good.
Waiting for: Citadel of Sorcery. Along the way, The Elder Scrolls Online (when it is F2P).
Keeping an eye on: www.play2crush.com (whatever is going on here).
Can't effing wait. I really hope they can provide that old school space adventure feeling Roberts is so good at while having a fun, interactive online game as well. So ambitious, but I LOVE seeing someone shoot for the stars (literally.) Especially when it's Chris Roberts. I can think of no one better-suited to the task. I am seriously planning for a rig upgrade just before launch almost entirely because of this game. I am all in.

Chris Roberts best skill is selling Chris Roberts.
I expect Star Citizen to end up somewhere between mediocre and a flaming disaster. If he's smart, he could live off this the rest of his life, but I expect his egomania will get in the way. I expect the game to be fully as good as his Hollywood directorial and producer credits.
His business sense is astounding though. He's managed to set up an in-advance cash shop that doesn't even really have to deliver any functional digital pretties for years.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

You mutilate and distort my post, and then have the nerve to say that this is what I actually meant? Well I'll make it clearer just for you, retard. I see a lot of promising game design choices being made in SC. But focusing resources on making cut scenes is a step backward. And I hope this is not the beginning of a trend.
That's my opinion. And if you don't like it, tough.
Squadron 42 was and always has been part of the initial game concept.
It´s the single player introduction campain.
Now With the New extra funding, they can hire more People to expand the Squadron 42 and turn it into more than just an introduction / Tuturial, but a fully fledged Single player campain like how he did the Wingcommander series.
