This!
You obviously have never played Wurm or have not played for awhile. The game is now surprising good with the graphic overhaul.
I suggest you check it out again,
It's still way too expensive for the quality and full of entitled veterans that leech off new players while essentially playing for free milking traders. The game is also declining steadily since its 1.0 release back in winter last year and then the price hike in March or April gave it the final push into a downward spiral.
All the reasons above plus Wurm dont having open free PVP with full loot.
Just wanted to make some things clear being a Wurm Player for a long time myself
Wurm has open F2P PVP with full loot if you play on the epic cluster.
It has not had a declining player curve, it is holding steadily at around the same ammount as 1.1 release.
People are just getting hung up on minor fluctuations with the subscription of premium players, if you look at it from a total for the last year. It has been holding steadily even with the price increase. With that extra money they have been able to staff up and adress getting up to date with allot of the development.
There are some major improvement and now I think it is soon time for 1.3 update which will include bridge building, new crafting interface and all sorts of juicy things.
Feudal will just have to go through all the same steps as Wurm when released with balancing, broken features and all that stuff. I see no reason for shosing that before a proven concept that is so far ahead already

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
I can agree with that. I have heard they are aiming on doing something about the combat system after the next release.
The latest thing I heard about it and which the crafting interface update is a part of was "A new beggining" or something like that. Which is a focus on getting the initial part of the experience for new player easyer. Something much needed with the steep initial learning curve.
But already in their devdiary, 1.2 update Rolf(creator of the game) said he thought the next thing to address would be the combat system. Obviously they have chosen to go with the other updates first but hopefully fighting will be next!

Maybe people are hoping for something like Wurm only better? Nothing wrong with that is there? Wurm has so many issues that having an alternative is nothing but good.
I mistook Wurm with Ryzon...
The combat of life is feudal will crush wurm out of this world.

Never played Wurm since it looks like a game from the late 90s...
I want a medieval set MMO with Mount&Blade combat. Combat in Wurm is either very shitty or non-existent, couldn't tell
because twitch combat like mount & blade would be so much better??? I think not.... I am quite happy with the currect combat system, its fun and enjoyable.... based off skill and equipment quality not how fast you can jump swing and block while press the mouse in the right direction....
There is something to be said about old school combat....

This, i doubt he has even played the game if so not recently that's for sure.
Generally speaking players who came from the FPS genre or consoles tend to prefer more action oriented combat, it's what they know best.
As they are tourists to the MMORPG space they don't really appreciate why combat developed the way it did, and yes, in fact, you are supposed to win the fight if your gear/skills/levels/strategy are better/higher/smarter.
Speed at manipulating the controller, your internet connection or even how well you macro was never supposed to be the point.

So much better imo and that is why I will be playing LiF and not WURM, but hey more power to you and hope that WURM continues provide you years of entertainment.
Wow, you have no idea what you are missing!
Well I dont know about that. From the sounds of it I do not think he or she would have fun in wurm online. It takes quite the dedication to have fun in wurm online. And from they type, of what they are looking for, a sand box, nor being able to craft the environment is what he would have fun with. What they would want is something like mortal online, or dark fall. Even elder scrolls online would be closer. To play wurm online, you need to have a imagination still intact. If a combat system that really only flaw is graphics, and the person doesnt like it, they thats a clear indication that they lack the imagination required to have fun in a true sandbox. I mean most people are not gonna be able to figure out what to do with them selves. You are just thrown into a world with nothing but basic tools, and its up to you to figure out how you want to have fun. If combat is something you wanted, then you would have to go into the world and find it your self. You would have to find and built it the way you wanted it to be. Most people dont want that, and from their brief description they are looking for a already created world, not one they have to build their selves.
I mean its more akin to this, we all played snow ball fighting as kids. I had more fun building up my snow fort, and coming up with the rules of engagement for the battle. Some people just like to throw snow balls at people. Some one who just likes to throw snow balls at people is not going to enjoy wurm online, or any sandbox. Including LIF, EQLM, ect...
Very good points!
Character controls and movement are a very important parts of a game for me and Wurm Online needs an overhaul in that department. And by movement I don't mean animations. I've tried that game twice and lasted a total of about 15 mins before quitting in frustration over controlling the character in a realistic manor.
Other than that the game had potential.
I'm doubting Life is Feudal will make the same mistake and character control with be something copied from a game that actually works.
Wurm is a decent game but the ones here talking good about it gloss over some very crappy game design elements of it. One reviewer said it best when mentioned that "you basically sign up to pull a level in a factory with Wurm." Take the grindiest most grindfest grindalicious game you have ever played, then multiply it by like 10, and that is Wurm. They take no efforts to make the grind fun either. Even if i could just watch my character chop trees or mine in 3rd person view, that would be kind of fun and entertaining. Nope, all you get is some text saying you just mined. Now repeat 500 times, or more like a few thousand if you want to build/craft any decent sized/quality thing.
Also Wurm has a huge map that is all the same. There is no point in adventuring anywhere. The resources, monsters, trees, iron ore, its all the same everywhere. A huge map that ends up being pointless. All those mountains and islands in the horizon, yup they are just the same as the ones you're standing on.
Lastly, Wurm does a horrible job of the multiplayer experience. If you want fresh land you need to go so far out that you only see one other soul maybe once a week. Not too mention some of the servers have like 50 on at a time, which is drastically below the critical mass needed for a game like theirs.
I dont regret the time I spent on Wurm, it was fun while it lasted. But from what I've read and seen LIF isnt re-creating Wurm from the ground up, they are in fact learning from games like Wurm and making the next generation of open world sandbox games even better.
The best comparison I can give you to get a sense of the game is a mash up between Mount and Blade and Minecraft. You get the terraforming piece, which is admittedly one of the best parts of Wurm as well, but with a much better building system that is either prefabricated or modular to give you that flexibility in creative construction.
The combat system will have melee, ranged and mounted which also puts it ahead of a lot of MMORPGs out there that make mounts nothing more than a simple means of transportation than a full on war machine in and of itself.
Wurm Online is a great game and I played the hell out of it for many years much to the groans and eye rolling of my own community, but I had a ton of fun. I think Life is Feudal will be something that draws a much larger crowd and has the immersion that is somewhat weaker in Wurm.
