Please read up on things, before you postulate things:
The microtransactions things was a misunderstanding, there will not be microtransactions like in a cash shop game, they will the same sort of services you can buy extra in any sub MMO game. Stuff like name changes etc, limited things, which has no bearing on gameplay, powerlevel access to content or anything to the like.
In other words, a standard sub business model, no more no less.
So, ESO will have name change service!?!? Really!?!?
To me, that means they do not care about establishing a community. When you insert anonymity (that's what being able to change names does), it brings out the worst in people. Look at WoW if you don't believe me. Look how it's community turned into absolute cesspool after they started those services.
Anyone who's been on the internet for more than a few weeks knows how anonymity turns things nasty. I hope this is not true, but if it is true...
The more I hear about the two games I had hopes for (ESO and EQ Next) the more I lose hope. I am afraid they may end up being two more addition to the line of cheezy huge disappointments that have been released in the last several years.
It IS cut and dry. Games have made profits on being B2P alone, GW1s cash shop came long after the game was out and in the black. Games have made profits on being F2P. Games have made profits being P2P. It is cut and dry and in CONTEXT with whom I was replying to.
YOU however stepped into our conversation with asking me why I wanted something when I gave no hint what so ever that I did. YOU injected something not there and you dragged it out with red herrings, things not stated and things that had NOTHING at all to do with what was said. So please, go on with adding a bunch of nonsense that doesn't apply and then act as if you are actually refuting, or adding anything at all to the conversation.
What you're missing is that everything I said was in reply to you, maybe you should review your posts so we're actually on the same page here. All I can gather over and over in your posts is that you're trying to ask me why it can't work, or you're arguing at me that it can, I don't even know TBH as you decided to move your other fight over to me out of no where. As what i asked had nothing at all to do with that.
Anyway in reply to your wanderings ( if you are having a hard time with it) I answered in the only way I could and said (to narrow it down) it can't work with the design they've gone with. To change that would require a costly overhaul. Not that you'll bother actually reading anything I've said; that much is obvious. Signing off now..

Waiting for this game to come out and I've been reading and watching youtube videos about it...one mentioned what I stated in the title. $60 box, $15 a month and ontop of that microtransactions, that seems way too greedy to me.
I understand that MMOs have a very high quit rate these days, which is why they are trying to go the way GW2 did with a high box price but should they not offer a lower sub fee to offset this large box price? I mean this really stinks of cash grab to me, like they know how the wind is gonna go and getting as much cash upfront as they can till it happens.
They are trying to have everything, full price box and a full price sub and put a cash shop in there too lol I mean that's really slimey to me.
This sounds pretty on par with what I've experienced in MMOs. I haven't actually paid a sub for a game in, oh, quite some time (I'm a F2P with a cash shop convert). Anyway, this seems like a typical sub model to me.
Typical sub model? What are you talking about, this is greed beyond belief! EVE is considered expensive and getting it is free, only sub exists. To pay the box and then sub and cash shop is.... LOL.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

Eve's client used to cost money as well, but it released over a decade ago. Bad example.
ESO is releasing at the standard box fee of today. Just like any other AAA P2P MMO has.The only thing different is the standard box fee used to be 50. There is also no cashshop.

Which one could say about subscription games, too. There is zero factual basis to that. It's fine to dislike something as not everything is for everyone, but making crap up doesn't help. I'm interested in your answer to Distopia's question.

There are a boat load of games that are currently F2P that started out as P2P that are currently making more money now than they did with a subscription. Herring denied.
You also realize how much work goes into changing over to F2P right? As well as why companies do not like to make such a switch, and that the design early on is based on what type of model they plan to use?
Oh I also love that I'm the Herring here, I mean come on man..
Not the herring yet you pose questions in a reply that already has the answer and then top it off with meaningless comments like companies don't like to do it just as a distraction.
Wow man you're really reaching here, what I said was a direct refute to what you propose, as image is just as important to profits. You didn't answer it at all with your statement you just laid out a strawman and expect it to explain away all.
Yes, I am clearly reaching for pointing out that you quoted me saying something and then asked a question which is already answered in it.
But I do thank you for once again completely ignoring parts of the post to continue to focus on your continual use of herrings. Perhaps this time you will state that the President of the United States enjoyes P2P to refute what started this discussion, that B2P and F2P works just as much as P2P to fund a game.
Its really funny how you say his ignoring parts of your pointless replies. Yet, here you are again completely missing his point and just continuing to argue just to argue. People like you make online gaming a terrible place sometimes.
What you're missing is that everything I said was in reply to you...snip
Another long winded red herring.

Actually to be clear, I do not dislike F2P games because of the communities as WoW had a very large community of trolls and elitist jerks.
I dislike F2P games because they nickel and dime you or end up P2W.
Example: Dragons Prophet is a decent game, During my short stint of playing I had no issue with the community but saw that packspace was vastly limited. In order to bring just your own main pack up to par with most other games it would cost around $3.00, then for what would be a second pack in other games it would be $5.00. by the time you get the same amount of pack space as any P2P games, you would have to spend around $30.00. Then you end up doing the same for the bank...and then the dragon lair and so on. and I am only talking about freaking item space.
Just to be clear here ;-)

Nothing. But you sure did seem to enjoy throwing in a lot of things like that.

Some truth in what he is saying.
Sure saying hating f2p seems bit harsh, but it have bring alot of more players to mmo's who are less interesting in community or even the game they just consume it real fast and hop on to next new f2p mmo, and its more easy to leave f2p then P2P which build alot better communitys and caring for the game.
Always exceptions offcorse but majority is like this thats a fact you all should know by now, unless you have lived under a rock for past 15 years.
Anyone else remember when you paid for the initial box, then paid again and again for each expansion box (EQ has a ton of them too) and there was no such thing as NOT paying $15 a month? There were no cash shops or FTP.

It just makes no sense why you'd want that kind of model if you dislike that kind of model. BTW GW1 was not just run on box sales and box sales alone.
........
You are seeing what you want to see and not what is there.
Stating that something exists is not saying you want it to. You have shown you have no ability to accept the very existence of things you do not like.

...... Notice I'm detailing that certain system work better with certain models (just conversation)
There's no type of payment model I do not like just one I prefer, might want to read that first line again (back to yourself). F2P works with a type of design, if they want a different design (one that doesn't need micro transactions to sustain itself) they need a different model, they want a design that offers everything for one flat fee.

I thank you for that, it did absolutely nothing for what is being spoken about. You seem to want to continue to dodge and deflect with a red herring. (dodge what?!?!)
You stated that box sales isn't enough to operate, it was proven wrong. What I want, what I like, what you want or like has nothing to do with it, nor does the payment model setup have anything to do with it. There are a boat load of games that are currently F2P that started out as P2P that are currently making more money now than they did with a subscription. Herring denied.
..... (me pointing that out)(blue)
Where did I state any such thing? How can I proven wrong on something I never said?
My reply to your seeming assertion that these games just went F2P with no problem

I do believe NCSoft has already proved that you can operate and run a successful game just on box sales with Guild Wars 1. Not to mention the fact that Nexon is one of the 3 most profitable gaming companies in the world all on F2P games. I can say that HATING F2P games.
Now go look at Activision/Blizzards earnings reports where it shows you Warcrafts operating costs and profits. Operations are laughably low and they have more servers around the world than just about any 3 games combined.
Wait you say you dislike cashshops/f2p, then argue on behalf of Arenanet's model?

You stated that box sales isn't enough to operate, it was proven wrong. What I want, what I like, what you want or like has nothing to do with it, nor does the payment model setup have anything to do with it. There are a boat load of games that are currently F2P that started out as P2P that are currently making more money now than they did with a subscription. Herring denied.
..... (me pointing that out)(blue)
Where did I state any such thing? How can I proven wrong on something I never said?
My reply to your seeming assertion that these games just went F2P with no problem
You also realize how much work goes into changing over to F2P right? As well as why companies do not like to make such a switch, and that the design early on is based on what type of model they plan to use?
Oh I also love that I'm the Herring here, I mean come on man..
So on and so forth everything I said addressed the points you made in reply to me.
It's also weird that you seem to completely ignore GW1 and GW2 both have cash shops.

Sho0ter was right...

They are worse than useless because you want to believe them. They will defend you against critiques that are valid. They will seduce you into believing you are done learning, or into thinking that your work is better than it actually is." ~Raph Koster

This. People need to stop with the FUD.
You make me like charity
The start of this conversation right here.
I stated nothing about liking or wanting a cash shop and only pointed out that it has been done. You added the rest and you did it because you were butthurt over me saying that many TES fans are talking bad about the game. in fact, the three of you continuing this part of the conversation with your distractions and accusations all didn't like those comments.
Looks like the board warriors are having some fun.

I wasnt hurt I asked you to post some proof or link that MANY TES fans are talking bad about the game. You got all sensitive about thinking i was calling you a name. And then your turned around and called me names. So who is hurt here? Sounds like you are actually.
You come back with some site has 500,000 members and 1000 of them are talking bad. Well I would have to say thats a pretty low % if thats your proof or evidence.
