Iczer: Thanks for mentioning that because I was unaware. I do notice many things do change and get plenty of right corner pop-ups with info, ut was unaware this was time linked all together.
The thing that could me interested in State of Decay was Steam and the preview:http://www.gametrailers.com/reviews/7jedtx/state-of-decay-review wich I find now pretty accurate, especially when you know that Star Wars Galaxies still today is my most favorite played MMORPG which also had it's issue's but also made it complete due to all the other things that just made that gameworld come alive. SoD just fits right in the top 2 of enjoyed singleplayer "zombie" games.
I have to admit I have long missed that feeling of excitement playing a game. Sure plenty of games I enjoy but most of them I can do without if I feel rl needs more time either job or freetime. With SoD currently when I see a window of playtime I just want to boot the game up.
Check out 7 days to die. It is a sandbox crafting survival mmo. I have been playing hundreds of hours and not getting tired of it. And its still in alpha. Its gonna be awesome at release.
The last of us...just an amazing game. one of my faves of all time. i'm currently playing State of decay and i'm having a blast. it has an mmo feel to it. big open world, random events, time still passes even when logged out. plus the dlc thats coming called "breakdown" sounds amazing. i picked it up on steam sale a couple of days ago for like $10....welll worth it.
DayZ and Project Zomboid are my favorites in this area. the others are just too arcadish. "Shoot, hack, slash, then settle back all nice and comfy in your safe house." just doesn't fly for me when I'm thinking of a zombie apocalypse.
Unless zombies can break down doors, smash windows and overrun a house, or a human survivor can try to steal all of your stuff and leave you for dead, the immersion is gone. Also can't stand the Zombie games that don't have any effects form being bitten or scratched. Really.... the entire element of the genre since the very first movie was made, was that "zombification" is a disease. Too many games just ignore that and getting bitten or scratched by a zombie is about as serious as getting stung by a mosquito that was dosed with antibiotics and took a sterilization bath in a pool of alcohol.

You should try State of Decay, zombies will break down door, smash windows, overrun houses. Personaly I feel the human aspect of other people around unless it's co-op would somehow ruin the immersion, mainly because of those who want to steal your stuff and leave you for dead. But that's abit biased towards State of Decay cause I like the perma death feel of it just don't feel it would transelate well into a MMO form. Could work in a co-op form.
You can be bitten and yes plenty of cures around or rest (switch characte) it just doesn't goes as deep as the comic or tv series The Walking Dead where you take of limbs to save someone or yourself.
And while you have safe houses you still need the upgrade them and defend it from the occasional hords who attack, try to run you over.
Nukyo: Thanks, already looked into it a while back, enjoyed the overview you posted. Definitly going to give the game a try some day.
For now SoD is keeping me busy at the times I grant myself some play time. It's just how a persistant world should feel like game-wise.
Oh have to say I replaced my memory banks, the game is definitly less clunky and pretty smooth actually. Was noticing some performance issue's with several games and even disconnects from pc to monitor, found out one mem.bank just wasn't working correctly.
Note if you asked me what MY fav zombie game is. Since I hate zombie games I'm saying Skyrim (Draugr). Oblivion zombies scared the freak out of me. I just don't do horror - not my thing.
Killing Floor! This is really different from all the zombie games I've played. Most of what I've played are about trying to survive and escape the infected area. But Killing Floor is about intentionally going into that infected area to wipe out all the zombies...well...they're not exactly zombies I think but I think they fall under that zombie game category. Also, I don't think it's fast paced, since you move fairly slowly compared to other similar games.
Also been having fun with "7 Days to Die" lately. I like the fact that all of the buildings and items in the game are (nearly) destructible and buildable - see that 3 story brick house over there? Yeah, you can build an even better version of it... complete with zombie proof siding and a pit of wooden spikes
It's like a much higher resolution Minecraft meets DayZ. Imagine playing Minecraft where zombies were a real threat and everything could break apart your house if you weren't careful!

At first I thought 7dtD would be my next zombie game. Have gathered allot of info but it's just to much of game and less of a immersive world to me. Reason I have seen players taking down a tree for wood with their bare hands? And that's just one of the many example's.
I like state of decay because it has a sense of realism to it. I would have liked to be able to chop down trees but then with the proper tools, let me start with smaller tools like a small axe and end up wielding a chainsaw. Perhaps SoD 2.0 might have that.
Have to get back to my initial thought of 7D2D, Got it of STEAM.
There is just allot of things possible ingame that made me curious. Don't like the graphics much, feels allot like DOOM 1 but I've not done anything in settings yet. Usually do this while playing, but when playing 7d2d there is only a quite or suicide option, no setting options. Only at the mainscreen. Also seen someone on youtube saying there are 2 options, one that makes it look more like minecraft (doom1 fr me) and the other setting makes it look more "real". Gonna check that out later tonight.
I like the crafting part, though really need to find good safe spots to figure out what goes together, while certain things seem logical to build together, some arn't.
Think for the time being I need to get familiar with all items and what's it all meant for.
Did thought this game had perma death, while you do die and get back at your starting point, for now I seem to still have all items gathered. Or perhaps I misread it.
Think this game is going to be my sunday game, not sure if short play sessions during the week can accomplish much ingame.

I don't really have a favorite "zombie" game. My favorites so far, for various reasons, are;

Another game that seems interesting since it's about surviving not being rambo is "How to Survive"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj8qKv6LPsc
If you want to check it out, it has coop.
I like Left 4 Dead. It's doesn't take that long to complete a campaign but it's fun to play with friends...until someone gets pissed off. Hahahaha!!
It also keeps me on my toes...sometimes it's difficult to determine when a horde will come.
