A need to scratch that MMO itch? WoW or SWTOR.

Hello all,

Thought it best to ask this question on a site with folks who have a vast knowledge in MMO's. It's in relation to getting into an MMO for a while, now I have a varied past in the genre but like many of us, I have that ever present scratch to itch. As of this moment I'm currently giving the ten day trial with World of Warcraft's Mist of Pandoria a try and I'm seriously considering resubbing to SWTOR to check out the new content they've added (Rise of the Hutt Cartel and of course Galactic Starfighter). Thing is, I'm attracted to both but I have my concerns in relation to both to.

You see, as of right now I know the better choice for me would be SWTOR because it's more focused on soloing (which I tend to primarily do, I have never commited to a guild because I tend to rather play these games on my own, I know it's a fault to have in most MMO's and missing the point of them, but I can't change who I am). Plus the story content was enjoyable in the time I played it a few months back. However WoW as this whole world of content that as been developed over many many years and I actually have up to the Cata expansion in my account. I guess it's sort of depressing to say that in my years of jumping occasionally in or out of WoW I have never even reached the Burning Crusade content. Yet I'm not sure how well this past content factors into modern day WoW, or if it's something that as been entirely removed or without a point of even venturing into. I have heard some folks say that the enhanced leveling in WoW results in a lot of the content being pointless but I don't have first hand experience of that, and for what it's worth I've been entertained by Mist of Pandoria so far.

Whilst there is part of me that would love to jump into an active guild with great people, I never have because I tend to be non-commital and don't want to waste other players time if I know I won't be a constant player. Which games like WoW need these days for the high end stuff.

So, which would you consider the wiser choice to jump into. I have noticed that I haven't even ran into one single other player in MoP so far, though that hasn't stopped me enjoying what is surprisingly some of WoW more enjoyable and well written quest content in my opinion. I'd like some opinions on this matter, I trust you to know a great deal more.

Many thanks.

Ive played both wow is much more solo friendly any day of the week than SWTOR . Every zone in SWTOR has heroic 2 and 4 missions and a long queue time dungeon finder that is server only (unless its changed recently) WOW on busier realms, even dps have maybe 10 minute queue times in their dungeon finder starting at level 15. SWTOR has a voice acting main story quest but you will be filling most of the time doing side quests to fill your experience bar to move on to another planet etc. Also you will get nickle and dime to death in SWTOR if you do not sub right away and pay the 15 bucks a month. Also there is still a cash shop that most buy from just for the extra perks even with a sub. WOW has 90 levels of quests that can all be soloed to end game where its raiding heroics and the new island that plays similar to guild wars 2 zones where everyone goes around zerging rares and events for gear.  Honestly wow is just in another league entirely when compared to SWTOR but thats just my personal opinion as to myself SWTOR just feels gimicky and cheap.

WoW is a better game in my opinion. SWToR does have a much better single player story line, but WoW has much more content, and that content is generally better than SWToR's non storyline content. It seems better thought out and more coherent. At the same time, if you don't feel like reading the quest text and just zipping through stuff, you can.

I would warn you about the Cata content though. It's not fun compared to the rest of the content that I've seen. I can't put my finger on it, but compared to the early content, and especially the level 1-10 goblin content it's just lame. I couldn't finish it. I might try again around Christmas when I has some time off, but it's not a sure thing. I might just play a Panda to level 35 or so. :-)

As far as soloing, WoW has tons of solo content. Tons and tons. You don't need a guild. I spent most of my three years playing without needing a guild. The same could be said for SWToR as well though, except WoW just has more content.

SWToR is going to cost you less money, even if you buy some unlocks in the cash shop.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Hate to say this but go with WoW.......OMFG I SAID IT -__- !!!!
You get more bang for your buck and it offers alot more then SWTOR in both PvE and PvP
SWTOR has a nice storyline, but once you finish it your done with the game tbh.

Also Ghost crawler is gone so it can only get better now :P !!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your input folks, it's appreciated.

Sounds like WoW might be the better choice for me than, which surprises me a little. But I have to admit I've enjoyed the Mist of Pandoria content so far. My only worry was in relation to how past expansions are implemented into the progression, if it's a case of being redirected from one zone to the first expansion zones for example or if I need to search out for that content.

    Again, appreciate the advice.

or you could give Secret World a try, costs a tenner, no sub fee, fantastic single player experience and the missions are top notch. I like to call them missions because quests would be an insult. Really, the missions are amazing (so is the story)
